The wise man does not let appearances fool him, because he knows danger can live inside the most innocent creature. Even so, the wisest man can find himself easily fooled by the mysterious Kennath and Aryanna Doul. The two fraternal twins, brother and sister, may not appear the most innocent at all times, but their impurities make the finest layer in their trickery. Anyone can tell when something appears too good for reality. When the two play their little game, people can only believe what they see and hear because they cannot find the underlying truth. No one can find reason to distrust them, and the twins know this. After all, they survive and prosper from their enigmatic deception.
Reputation precedes the twins in the underground where their employers commission them for jobs. Known as the perfect assassins and spies, they have walked right up to their marks without detection and left without any trail. Pursuers have tried to find and eliminate them, only to find how easily they disappear into thin air. They do their job perfectly, and no one understands how they accomplish what they do. Many enemies face them for the jobs that earned them their prestige, and even the most cunning hunter cannot even find them for a long enough time to pull a weapon. The Doul twins have earned their stripes as the best at subterfuge, and even those who know them best have not any idea how deceptive they can truly act.
Aryanna Doul
At first glance Aryanna looks like an innocent young woman who does not seem fit to live the life of a criminal. She has long, poorly tamed hair that has a strange hint of blue, especially in some moonlight. Her eyes usually appear light green, but some have described them as dark as emeralds and even on rare occasions blue like sapphires. She stands a fine height of one and seven tenths meters, and appears rather light for her size. She claims that she has barely made it to her mid twenties in age. Her physique makes he seem pure enough, but her wardrobe deceives further; she chooses formal gowns for all occasions, excluding special missions. Ironically, her appearance fits her role in the twin’s profession, because she seems much more innocent than she truly acts.
Luckily, many people who encounter her formally do not blatantly fall for her deceptive appearances. Of course, she does not adopt an innocent personality in the presence of others. Her wit which exceeds that of many others usually hidden, but everyone can see her cunning. Aryanna finds no difficult in charming others to get what she desires; her melodious voice convinces many, but she often times tricks people into deals that only benefit her. This skill defines her role in missions as the deceiver and perfect mimic, and she can easily take the role of any other person or persuade others to do her bidding. In every job the twins take, Aryanna plays the roles of other people with little mistake; after all, she lives a lie every day of her life. While many people perceive her as an outgoing and deceivingly cunning woman, in reality she is a timid young woman who depends on her brother to make decisions about her career and role in society and to survive.
The skills of the young woman are phenomenal regardless of her dependence on her brother. She is highly intelligent, in contrast to her athletic inexperience. She has a natural understanding and curiosity for how machines work and so she can usually operate any device with little difficulty. Of course, Kennath noticed these skills when they both were little, and encouraged her to learn how to infiltrate systems. Without any surprise, she did as he asked and mastered the art of hacking and slicing, even though she didn’t like it. Her mastery of deceiving and perfectly imitating others also came from her brother’s insistence. After all, mimicry came natural to the two, and he reasoned that she would do so much better at lying being more intelligent than he. Aryanna felt as if she could do nothing else but consent to her brother’s requests.
The history of this poor girl is rather saddening, but it does explain her relationship with her brother. From the time of her birth, Aryanna’s parents spoiled her with gifts and attention. Her father refused to recognize her obvious intelligence and believed that only he could effectively care for her. By the time she could walk and talk, she did not have the capacity to do anything without her father’s consent. This continued for many years until Kennath intervened. The brother’s intervention did not contain anything chivalrous in the least, and instead of standing up for her, he practically kidnapped her, by persuading her into the ship, and left their home world. From that day forward, she became inseparable with her brother. She no longer had her father, and so Kennath became her dependant. Kennath did feel sorry about taking her from their family, but he figured she would be better off with him. Unfortunately, while he promised to protect her, he enjoyed the control too much to even attempt to teach her about independence.
Kennath Doul
Kennath Doul contrasts his twin sister completely. He assumes a physical build and prefers exercise to studying. Usually when people see him, they first notice his well defined muscles and large size. Even though he stands at about one and nine tenths meters, he appears thick boned and muscularly heavy. These aspects of his appearance cause enough intimidation in others, but his dark yellow eyes and long, wild black hair only cause more fear in people. Unlike his sister, he rarely wares anything formal and prefers to dress in light, flexible clothing. It is fair to say that he does not wish to let his appearances deceive anyone.
Obviously Kennath has a strong, self preserving personality. He tends to dislike many people and manipulates others, just like he does with his sister, to do his bidding. This skill matches that of his sister, and one can say she learned it from the best. Even though he is not as intelligent or cunning as Aryanna, he always finds a way to prey on other people’s weaknesses to get what he needs. While he uses Aryanna to convince people with cunning words and logic, he manipulates others through any means, including controlling their weaknesses, blackmail, and death threats.
The skills of Kennath are not nearly as intricate as Aryanna’s, but in the career of espionage they are just as valuable. Where Aryanna is the brains of the missions, Kennath takes the role of the brawn. His formal training in combat comes from various sessions with several criminal organizations. His own superb skills in stealth have even allowed him to enroll in classes that are restricted to species only. In fact, many of the teachers from the training seminars he practiced in did not even know who he truly was. He learned, through the intense training regiment of mercenary organizations, how to fight with and without weapons. While he could hardly call himself a perfect marksman or unstoppable martial artist, he knows enough to defend himself and his sister from the most unruly people. His skills in combat combined with his skills in stealth allow him to kill any mark without them even noticing danger.
The history of Kennath Doul is not much more cheerful than that of his sister. As soon as he came out of his mother’s womb, he received the opposite amount of attention as did his sister. By the time he could walk and talk, his parents practically left him to fend for himself and paid him little attention. As a little boy, he became known as the community bandit and rascal; he would nab food and money from neighbors and start fights with other youths. When his parents did not punish him for his crimes, things only got worse. After time he found himself locked into prison where even his sister, probably from her father’s orders, did not visit him. The day the officials released him was the day he left the planet with his sister.
Kennath had no difficulty adapting to life in the rest of the galaxy. Unsuspecting people became easy victims for robbery, and no official could nab him. From simple robberies he sought out criminal organizations that put his skills to the test. The test, which was intended to be a suicide mission, did not give the young man any trouble; the wealthy man the crime lords instructed him to kill did not even notice a threat until he died and no security official found the killer. From that day forth, jobs came easy for Kennath. Once missions became more intricate, Kennath brought his sister into the fray; he couldn’t handle many of the more intellectual aspects of some jobs, and his innocent sister was easy to mold into the perfect criminal partner. The two together left every crime organization dumbfounded, because no one but a member of their species could explain their efficiency at their work.
The problem most creatures have when trying to understand the twins and how they perform their jobs so effectively is that they think of Kennath and Aryanna as humans. However, the true species of the twins is as mysterious as the two are. The home world of the two spies is called Lao-mon, and their species is called Shi’ido. Their ability to disappear so easily and infiltrate building unnoticed is due to their natural shape shifting ability. Adult ages of the Shi’ido species begin at a hundred years, at which members can shift into nearly any other species with certain size restrictions. Youths below the age of a hundred can only effectively mimic humanoid species. Kennath and Aryanna, whose real ages are sixty-seven, have mastered their species ability to morph into different types of humans and humanoid creatures. They can easily disappear into a crowd due to this and mimic any person in their mission location. Even so, their shape shifting is limited due to their young ages, and they find their telepathy difficult to control. Regardless of restrictions, they can easily fool unsuspecting people with the shifting capabilities they can control. Of course, neither of the twins are about to tell anyone this little secret.
