It was the middle of the day on the Sith world of Korriban. The sun sat high in the sky, beating down upon the red, rocky surface of the planet mercilessly. The air itself seemed to shimmer with the heat, unable to withstand the harsh gaze of the sun without losing its integrity. In the distance stood the temple, claiming the lives of the unworthy even now, as two contestants made their way to the battle location and prepared to fight until one was victorious over the other. Rocky outcroppings rose all around, forming a natural arena of sorts. Paving the ground of the makeshift arena were rocks, most of which were little more than pebbles. One, however, stood above all the rest. It stood at waist height and made up the centre point of the rocky, uneven fighting ground, serving as a focal point for the bout.

Two combatants stood on opposite sides of the arena, rock outcroppings rising around them in every direction. One of them was a Sith Warrior by the name of Andromeda, a well known member of the Brotherhood. The other, Menderling Smollet, was a new addition to the Brotherhood. Simply by virtue of being alive and being part of the Sacred Band he had proved himself, but he had yet to be properly tested. Perhaps this fight would prove to be that test. Regardless of their experience; regardless of their place in the Brotherhood, upon this field they were equals, and before the day was done one would emerge victorious, while the other would emerge much worse for wear, but alive, even if they were lacking a limb or two.

Turncoat Jon wasn't known for his martial prowess, nor his fearsome image on the field of battle. The former merchant had no formal school of fighting to equal proper swordsmen, or women, and as it was the first time he'd face an opponent that was versed in usage of the Force, he personally estimated his chances to be very low. His skill, however, had brought him this far and into the notorious Sacred Band of Ziost where he had learned some dirty fighting moves when facing other potentials in the trials. Against some Sith, Jedi too, he'd have guessed his chances higher, but his opponent, however, wasn't an unknown. Andromeda was a Sith warrior whose reputation preceded her all the way to the bunks of Serenno. Looks were definately deceiving in this case as the teenager was a fierce adversary.

Outfitted in light armor, holding his blaster pistol in the right, and a vibro-knife in his left, Menderling was anxious for this fight to begin as he stood at one side of the natural arena. Andromeda was quite the distance away and a blaster bolt fired would never have the desired accuracy, but Menderling raised his pistol anyway just in case his opponent decided she'd rather close the gap in a jiffy.
