Kril’dor. A gas giant in the mid-rim and, most importantly, a source of Tibanna gas. The gas was still a valuable commodity throughout the galaxy. Thel had previously attempted to establish Sith influence in a Tibanna mining facility on the planet. He was now going to try again at a different Tibanna facility on the planet. After persisting for some time, he had managed to establish contact with a shareholder in another facility. The shareholder was open to the prospect of an alliance with the Sith. However, there was something that needed to be taken care of first. The Sith’s potential ally had requested that their fellow shareholder, the majority shareholder in the facility, be eliminated. They could then assume full control.

Thel had secured the help of two Sith allies. Hopefully, it would make things easier. Their target’s residence was a well-guarded compound, located on its own floating platform.

The Sith descended towards the facility, in a small ship piloted by a Sith disciple. Thel stood on the bridge, dressed in his robes. If the mission was a success, it would provide a much needed boost to the weakened Sith Order.

Another one bites the dust...

----------------------------------------

A different kind of mission, with 2 Sith... 42 didn't know if he should be excited or afraid of the power these 2 would be unleashing... Yet the danger to become "useless" is very high... 42 though, has done several missions successfully and planned to get this one done too... He was sitting in the back of the ship, testing his equipment before entering the hot zone...

He turned his head to the left, watching Sith Master @Thel Xeros standing at the bridge and saying through the comlink: "Master Xeros, I'll get ready for the mission... any special tasks for me?" He stood up and looked at Master Xeros awaiting his answer...

Meanwhile he checked through his gear including the cloaking device, which could be useful in that mission, although they were most likely be fighting in a closed facility which was far off from ideal for this device...

Most days felt the same.

Maros was coming to realize that was what he preferred. Repetition was its own kind of hell, but boring was not bad. Bad was something else. Usually something exciting, in a high-speed accident sort of way. The Sump, the Trials, his time in ISB: all exciting. All bad. His meeting with Merian, the most exciting thing that had ever happened to him, was also, without equal, the most bad.

Bad. Bad. Bad.

So he was done with exciting. A life of mild contentment seemed a worthy goal in the face of the alternatives. The mission on Zeltros, his spice run with Yve and Crixus, and now this mercenary work. Straightforward, predictable, and with just enough novelty to keep Maros engaged. Chefs the galaxy over would kill for a recipe like that, he thought. He had loved to cook on ISB deployment. That was a long time ago, and he pushed the thought away.

He had lingered on the edge of the bridge, trying his damnedest to look cool and dispassionate - to look like he thought a mercenary had ought to - as pockets of turbulence buffeted the ship. The old A-24s looked big in pictures but things were a bit more cramped than anyone would have liked. Roiling waves of corposant and electrical discharge flickered in the gas fields. This was not the sort of place one brought a big ship, Maros supposed. It would be a very expensive way to commit suicide.

The Sith Champion pushed himself away from the wall. He took a step towards Thel, an appreciable distance for a bridge of that size, and spoke.

“Did your man say where in the compound the target would be?” He looked tired, but his words had force in them. “I’d rather not flatten the place looking for him.”

Thel turned to look at 42, once he finished speaking. “When we drop down, I want you to head to the communications centre and take control of it. The holoprojector I provided you with gives a basic layout of the compound.

Thel then addressed Maros. “One of the buildings in the compound is his personal quarters. As I’ve been told, he goes to his drawing room for most of the evening and then retires to his bedroom.

We’re approaching now,” the pilot called out. “Good, let’s get ready.” In the evening, the compound’s security systems would undergo a quick refresh, taking systems offline for a very short period of time. This gave them a brief window to enter.

Thel gestured for 42 and Maros to follow him to the ramp at the back of the ship. “You come with me. We’ll take care of the target,” Thel told Maros.

The ship swooped towards a building and began to slow as it approached the roof. The ramp lowered and Thel dropped down to the roof. Once the three Sith were on the roof, the ship quickly flew away. They hadn’t been seen. “Move to the communications centre,” he instructed 42. He then set off across the rooftops, towards the target’s building.

Eventually, after quietly moving from rooftop to rooftop, he landed on the target’s building. Moving to the edge, he looked down at a balcony. Three guards sat at a table, playing cards. Two leaned on the railing, talking to each other. “Your choice as to how we proceed,” he whispered to Maros.

Orders...
----------------------------------------
"As you wish sir...", 42 said while making his way to the ramp to get off this ship. After the pilot said, that they would approach now, he got himself ready for the INFIL. After the ship got itself positioned just over the roof, he slowly touched the roof, to ensure, that his steps couldn't be heard...

Once Thel gave the command to the communications centre, 42 would look at the holoprojector... The communications centre was not far away, but surely swarmed with enemies...

Anyways, 42 went to the south side of the roof on which they have landed, and looked over the edge, down onto balcony where nobody was on... He looked around, found a place, where he could hook up with his Grapple gun, to slowly descend onto it... He hooked it up, got himself positioned backwards and slowly went down the wall, to the right of the balcony.

He got his pistol ready, and looked into the windows, but the room seemed to be pitch black... so he decided to hop onto the balcony and leaving the grapple hook hanging, if something should go south, he then would be able to extract...

Standing in front of the pitch black room, he activated his thermal vision... and was standing on the balcony of a small kitchen, which was close to the communications center... when trying to open the door, he wasn't able to, so he grabbed his fusion cutter to open the door silently... "Well, let's hope nobody comes into this fucking kitchen for a midnight snack.", he thought, while his body started to reflect the light from the fusion cutter just a bit...

Maros inched forward. His movements were slight and discerning. It’d never happened before, but there had always been some neurotic fear in the back of his mind that one day he would look over a ledge and find the target staring up at him, like some kind of mediocre cosmic joke. It didn’t happen.

He looked the men over. Stocky, well-muscled, and covered in scars and tattoos. Hired muscle; a readily available commodity for mining bosses the galaxy over. Chances were good they had been tibanna extractors before being plucked from the line for their brawny physiques and simple loyalty. Maros shot Thel a glance.

“We could take them,” he murmured. “But we’d be on the clock after that. I don’t know how that might spoil things for our friend if he’s not in position.”

A silent moment passed. One of the guards cursed as he threw down a bad hand.

“Let me just...”

A flick of the wrist and Maros sent one of the men leaning on the rail tumbling off the balcony. He yelped in surprise and panic as he toppled and then hit the supporting platform with a dull thud. His comrades, stunned into stillness for a moment, sprang up as his chocked cries reached them.

“Joson!” one of the men shouted. “Joson what the hell!”

The four guards rushed back inside, scrambling for the stairwell and the injured Joson. Poor bastard. That had to have hurt.

“I think that’s our distraction,” he said, and slipped over the lip of the roof onto the balcony.

Thel observed as Maros’ clever ploy sent the guards rushing away from their post. He dropped down onto the balcony alongside the other Sith. “Nicely done.

Stepping inside the building, he turned to Maros. “The main room is on the ground floor and the bedroom is up here. I’ll take the bedroom. You can take the main room.

Thel set off to find the bedroom, leaving Maros to carry out his task.

The corridors were eerily quiet and lit by dim light from the chandeliers suspended from the ceiling. The sound of Thel’s footsteps was slightly muffled by the red carpeted floor. As he turned a corner, he sensed a presence and quickly retreated. A maid emerged from one of the rooms, pushing a small trolley. She was short and dark haired. Peering around the corner, he watched as she pushed the trolley in the opposite direction. Maybe she could lead him towards the target’s room. Being careful to maintain his distance, he began to follow the maid.

Maros trailed after the departing guards with a nod and a flash of his cape. Sometimes it felt damn hard to be anything other than conspicuous, but that was the price of style. It was a fact lost on many, but looking the part was most of what being a Sith really came down to. In fatigues and boots you were a man. In gilded armor and velvet robes you were a lord. There was a difference and people noticed. His footfall was soft, his steps measured. It still felt too obvious.

The main room was tall and open, like a forest clearing. A fine table with chairs at odd angles cluttered around it, pushed aside. A kettle of Solean Tea sat cold and unpleasant. As long as it had been there no one had touched it and now it was wasted. Maros crept along the back wall, keeping clear of the far door that hung open. He could hear the worried chatter outside and the quiet whimpering of the injured guard. Step after quiet step, and he turned to slip out of the dining area.

Maros let out a startled gasp and leapt back, nearly knocking over a lamp. The woman stared back at him, placid. A painting. She was a painting. He held a long, quiet breath, and then let it out when the injured guard’s shouting continued. Poor man. Poor woman, actually, he thought, looking at the painting again. Her face was functional. That was the most generous description. Like a cheap plate or a ragged shirt. It was a work of love, that much was obvious. To someone, presumably the target, it was still beautiful.

He could appreciate that. To be a Sith meant understanding the power in emotions and passions, and love was certainly transformative. Merian was beautiful, objectively, like a rose on a sunny day. But to have had her like this, all her sunset glow immortalized on canvas? It might have killed him. Even if Maros hadn’t loved her, it would have been an improvement. The woman in the painting really was tragically unpleasant to look at.

When he found the painting’s subject in the next room she was staring into a mirror applying some cosmetic to her sallow face. She turned to look at him standing in the doorway, a look of dull-avian surprise on her face. A sharp crack of ionized air and then a red blade hovered by her throat. Maros closed the door behind him.

Thel quietly followed the maid, until she eventually stopped in front of a set of large double doors. They were ivory in colour and adorned with a gold leaf pattern. He waited until she had wheeled her trolley into the room, before making his move. He approached the door. It was grander than the other doors he had walked past. Perhaps this was the target’s room?

He gently pushed open the door and entered. The room was large and filled with antique furniture. An impressive four poster bed dominated the space. The maid stood tidying the bedside table, with her back to Thel. A large picture of the target hung from the wall to his right. He looked around the room and it was apparent that the target wasn’t there. Maybe they were in the dining area?

Gently slipping out of the room and moving out of sight, he waited for the maid to move on. Returning to the room when the maid had gone, he thought it was worth investigating. There were more pictures of the same man and also a single picture of a rather odd-looking woman on the bedside table. Nothing else of interest though. If he wanted to find the one he was looking for, he would have to search elsewhere.

(OOC: Failed dice roll to locate target in their room.)

Suddenly, Maros was falling. About halfway to the floor he realized someone had hit him. Damn. The lightsaber hissed as it went out and then clattered to the floor. It rolled and Maros followed after it, scrambling. Another blow rained down on him, less forceful but with a desperate kind of speed now that the surprise attack had failed. Then another, and another still, against his back and legs. He let out something between a shout and a sigh as he landed, rolling onto his back and kicking out at the assailant.

Not a guard, though he could hear them further off in the main room. Dressed nicely, looked out of his depth: Probably the target. Maros swung his leg around and cracked the back of his boot into the man’s ankle. He toppled, slow and heavy, like an old tree. Then the woman was hitting him as well, her balled fists beating against his head. Just, damn. The lightsaber was in his hand again and he brought it around wide, a scythe through the thin durasteel wall. The woman yelped and leapt back as it cut at her, burning the hem of her long skirt, and then Maros sent her into the back wall with flash of telekinetic power. She slumped.

There was a guard in the door now. His blaster, boxy and compact, came up and fired off a trio of shots. Maros deflected them like a third-rate sportsman. He did his best to regain his feet but the guard kept firing, forcing him back down with the weight of fire. The wall was scored with blast-marks and the sink was beginning to overflow. Maros felt the cool water running along his side. It shifted his focus, if only an iota, and the guard finally landed one of his shots, scorching the Sith’s torso. He cursed, and with a effort surged forward, under the blaster fire, and slammed into the guard’s midsection. They both crashed to the ground, winded.

“Help would be good!” Maros shouted. A bit obvious.

Thel decided to head to the drawing room downstairs. Perhaps Maros had already found the target there and taken care of them. It was worth checking though.

He quietly made his way down the stairs. As he got closer to the bottom of the stairs, he heard some commotion. Hurried footsteps and raised voices. Descending the rest of the stairs, he then made his way into the large drawing room. The noise was coming from the corridor ahead.

Quietly pushing open the door that connected the drawing room to the hallway the noise was coming from, he saw three guards with their backs to him. As he stepped into the hallway, Maros came crashing through a doorway. He fell to the ground with the guard he had tackled and called out. The three other guards, with their backs to Thel, took aim at Maros. They seemed reluctant to fire, given the proximity of their fellow guard to Maros. Thel exploited this. He ignited his saber and then thrust his left arm in the direction of one of the guards, causing the force to coil around them. He used the force to throw them into one of the other guards aiming towards Maros, knocking them both to the ground. The other guard, caught by surprise, turned to face Thel. They fired a couple of shots at him, but he deflected both blaster bolts. One shot was deflected into the floor and the other was propelled straight back at the guard who fired it. The bolt slammed into their chest, killing them instantly. The two guards who had been knocked to the ground were beginning to get up again, as Thel turned to face them.

Maros reeled back, straddling the man and sending a sharp jab into his throat. There was a wet, gurgling cough and the guard went limp. No time to think. He brought the lightsaber around just in time to catch the two men Thel had sent to the floor. One yelped and the other let out a pained gasp. Dead or simply incapacitated, it didn’t matter, and in a moment Maros was on his feet again. A sudden shift and he was slipping into the bathroom, advancing on the woman, leaving Thel free to dispatch the target as he struggled to his feet.

Thel watched as Maros dispatched of the two guards. Now it was just a matter of dispatching of the target.

The man was slowly dragging himself to his feet when Thel approached. Before he had a chance to try and help the woman, Thel’s saber stabbed through his chest. Trying to resist, he quickly succumbed to the attack and collapsed to the floor.

We’re done here,” Thel called out to Maros. He quickly set about making his way back to the roof, as other guards closed in. If the other Sith was sensible, he would join him in making a hasty exit. As he retreated, he signalled from his comlink to the ship that brought them there.

Climbing onto the roof, he looked to the sky and spotted the ship approaching. The ship slowed and lowered its ramp as it hovered overhead. Channelling the force, he leapt towards the ramp and landed on it.

Let’s go,” he shouted to the pilot, as he entered the ship. With the target assassinated, their ally could assume control of the Tibanna mining facility. Once Maros was also onboard they would make their escape. The Sith soldier who had accompanied them was nowhere to be found. He would have to make his own escape.
