So this video has been doing the rounds at my University it's actually very good timing because this was uploaded two days before there was to be a debate in the Uni about Rape Culture/ Lad Culture. For context those are fourth year university students on the Hockey Team.

All I hear when I see the phrase 'Rape Culture' is often carried around by radical females who often demonize men. This one particular woman I heard speaking one day said this and I'm not even joking.

"Women are not capable of sexual pleasure since it is just something men invented to brainwash us and make us have sex with them."

I kidd you not. It's hard for me to take them seriously on this kind of subject, but I understand what they're trying to stand up for. However, if anyone goes so far as to say that society somehow condones rape, I haven't seen anyone come close to condoning. This might be due to the fact that my father works as an officer/detective in a local police department. He's prosecuted a great deal of rapists and put them away for their deeds, often having to build up much of the cases on his own. He's told me the stories and I've never heard of anyone condoning what the perpetrator did to the victim within his cases. Maybe I just live in the wrong part of the country to be getting the big picture.

In regards to the video, I'll agree that it's distasteful and not something they should be doing on a public transit. Perhaps if they were in a bar and were all drunk themselves? Then I'd understand.

These are just some out of many, many cases. Not only are the rapists often condoned, but the rape victim is condemned. Somehow, she’s made out to be the villain because of what "she did" to the men involved, or made to look at least partly responsible out of some misguided idea that it takes two to tango.

Rape culture is also less blatant than that. It can be very subversive. Rape culture is one that asks questions like “did you do anything to provoke him?” or make statements like “maybe you shouldn’t have dressed provocatively.” Stupid people think that those questions are reasonable, but they’re not. There is no justification for rape. Not only that, but those kinds of things are pretty offensive to men too, when you consider the implication -- all it takes for us to become violent sexual predators is a short skirt and a smile.

So Lad Culture is about "recapturing masculinity". Not sure how making crude jokes and such (drunk or not) is a way of going about it and if you know me well on or off site you know I love my fair share of crude jokes, but sans any agenda. It also suggest there is one masculine paradigm, just like I'd argue there is no one "feminine" way to act. Sociological heuristics and labeling be whack yo.

Per Brandon, saying a rapist was only triggered by something the victim did is a bit shit. That man or woman wasn't walking home and specifically decided to assault someone because they happened to wear from fitting clothes or stand a provocative way. They were going to do it some point any way. Just because it is their diseased rational does not make it a correct one. That's like saying a convenience store shouldn't operate such late hours. This is indeed a disgusting display. While I do believe in a certain form of being masculine in a abstract sense, this is far from it. Masculinity is having the backbone to be a father, leading others, respect for women, not being afraid to wear the color pink, etc. and this display is really just the opposite of masculine, isn't it?
