Lamaro System, The Reef

Times were uncertain for the New Jedi Order, not that the Jedi were strangers to uncertainty in these troubling times. Even so, with Jedi Grandmaster Ebberlaw Daw stepping down from her position and leaving the Order, many Jedi felt the Orders situation had become even more precarious. The newly elected Jedi council had felt the Order’s current outposts were no longer safe, compromised by the fact that Ebberlaw knew their locations and unwilling to risk the safety of so many on good faith that she wouldn’t betray them, had ordered all current outposts abandoned. With the abandonment of their outposts the Jedi were to float as leaves among the wind, as nomadic exiles until such a time that new sanctuaries could be found. Unfortunately not all of the Jedi were so able to take care of themselves alone, with many younglings and initiates having been taken in by the Order. And so even with orders against large congregations of Jedi, it was necessary to protect these young and untried students, and to transport them to safety away from the compromised outposts.

Freshly Knighted and ready to serve, the Pantoran Jedi Jade had volunteered to transport some of those young Jedi who were unable to make their own way off of the world of Lamaredd. Aboard her ship, The Oracle, a transport large enough to carry all of the Jedi needing transport with plenty of room to spare, was chaos. The youngest Jedi, while hit hard by having to abandon their current homes, were quite enthusiastic about their new surroundings and ran about the ship, determined to explore every nook and cranny. The few older padawans and knights onboard had the duty of trying to round up said children. As the Jedi chased younglings throughout the ship, running through hallways and crawling through maintenance ways, the ship approached the asteroid field that surrounded the Lamaro system known as The Reef.

In the cockpit of the Oracle, Jade’s RX pilot droid worked the ships controls, silence pervading the room except for the occasional whirring of servos as the droid moved its arms to manipulate the ships controls. Out of the ships main viewport the asteroid field known as The Reef could be seen past the Corellian freighter known as The Twilight Maiden and the X-wings of Exile Squadron. As the convoy grew nearer to The Reef, an old CR-150 Corvette drifted out from behind a large asteroid, a faded but visible deaths head painted on its side. A sudden lurch shuddered through The Oracle as a tractor beam grabbed a hold of it, three assault shuttles screened by a squadron of V-wings swiftly approaching The Oracle visible out of the viewport.

“Mistress Jade, it appears we have ships approaching us, they seem to have hostile intent” RX commed to Jade over the ships intercomm system. As the approaching ships flew through the formation of Exile Squadron, the fighter cover too thick for the Jedi pilots to prevent their approach, RX received the command to activate the ships defenses. As the pirate Starfighters peeled off to engage Exile Squadron, the Oracle’s twin linked laser cannons popped out of their concealment on the ship’s belly, firing at one of the assault shuttles at nearly point blank range, destroying it with a brilliant explosion that could be felt throughout the Oracle before the other shuttles were within minimum range. Docking at the Oracle’s cargo hold, the assault shuttles occupants, Trandoshan slavers, hissed with excitement as they prepared to board.

Asheek had spent a good amount of the trip chasing and playing with the various children. She was extremely friendly with them, telling them stories, keeping them out of trouble, but still finding time to show them some of her favorite childhood games, or at least versions that her fellow Jedi would approve of. As she took care of the children, she easily lost track of time, keeping her lightsaber pike tucked away into the corner of the main room she kept the younglings in. She trusted that, even at such a young age, they would understand that the pike was not a toy, and definitely not one of the things they could push boundaries on.

As Asheek had tended to the children, she had still found some time to socialize with other Jedi on board. She would have short discussions with Jade before the horde of younglings would eventually drag her away. The younglings, every now and then, would tug on her headtails, causing her to wince as the sensitive flesh was suddenly yanked. However, she pushed through, ignoring most of the pulling, understanding that the younglings, lacking the headtails themselves, wouldn't know how it felt.

Then, the ship began to shake, and vibrations filled the compressed air. Asheek paused, frowning. The message this sent out to the younglings had more of an impact than Asheek meant, slowly, the children began to change from a happy, playful atmosphere to that of a crowd of worried children. Asheek took a few steps over to the corner of the room, grabbing her lightsaber pike, feeling that something was seriously wrong. She stood near one of the doors, making sure to heavily lock and seal all but one. Something was seriously wrong.

~ Theme Song ~

Her wounds had healed well after the events on Endor, and the new council had even knighted her based on how she had spoken up during the gathering in an attempt to calm her fellow Jedi and bring a focus to the actual conversation rather than the many debates and bickering so many other members of the Order had displayed. Still her muscles were sore even after days of meditation and healing sessions. Despite this however Jade had been one of the first to volunteer in aiding the evacuations of the Jedi outposts, her ship being a perfect candidate for the mission. The last week had been full of surprises and Jade wasn't sure just how much more she would be able to take.

It had been rather easy to get everyone aboard and she was even able to get most of the outpost's supplies and equipment packed into the cargo hold and in a few of the unused rooms and spaces. Many of the younglings still had to pair up and share bunks but most of them seemed to take everything in stride and they were all having a blast tearing apart the ship. Jade still couldn't believe she was a knight, but then again she was still struggling over the events of Endor as well as her wounds. Although she had healed she could still feel the damage. She had been exhausted for days both from the healing and trying to work her brain around what had happened on Endor, what was happening now even. Although she was overjoyed to be around so many members of her family as well as being trusted with the honor of safeguarding the next generations of Jedi, she was exhausted, it was just too much too fast for her to cope.

On top of everything else going on Jade had already found an apprentice in her friend the Togrutan padawan named Asheek Rosh remained Jade of herself in many ways. She knew that Asheek was older then herself but she also knew that age didn't mean anything when it came to understanding, not that she'd ever be so arrogant to think herself above another. Asheek had honored her by accepting Jade as her master and as this was thier first mission together, Jade was looking forward to having Asheek by her side to help take care of the younglings. She had no doubt the Togrutan's inner huntress would serve well to protect the young ones if a threat appeared. It was at the very moment that thought crossed her mind that the Jedi Knight felt it, something wasn't right as the Force seemed to pulsate around her warning her of danger.

Stepping off of her bed where she had been attempting to heal her aches and pains through meditation, Jade took a single step out of her private quarters before she was nearly thrown off balance by some sudden jerk that ran throughout the entire ship. A few passing younglings who were following one of the padawans were knocked of their feet, one being caught by the padawan, while the other steadied themselves against the wall. About to reach out and make sure the three were okay, the computer generated voice of RX, the ship's pilot droid, sounded over the intercom. “Mistress Jade, it appears we have ships approaching us, they seem to have hostile intent” The jerk on the ship had to have been a tractor beam, Jade thought to herself as she pulled her personal commlink off of her utility belt before replying to the droid.

With a cold presence in her gut as she saw the frightened expression of not only the younglings, but the padawan as well, she turned off into the direction of the cargo hold. "RX, patch me into the ship's intercom and arm the ship's defenses, I want to know what we're dealing with but make sure to fire at one of the ships, we can't take them all but cutting their numbers down can only improve our odds." Jade spoke quickly as RX patched her into the ship's intercom and the second half of what she had said sounded of around the ship. "We are under attack, all younglings report to the rec room or the medbay, all padawans and knights should disperse themselves around the ship and prepare to be boarded. Again, we are under attack, all younglings report to the rec room and the medbay, all padawans and knights should disperse themselves around the ship and prepare to be boarded. Padawans Rosh, Rayder, and Shan report to the cargo hold to assist me." Jade had no doubt of what these unknown enemies were going to do, a relatively unarmed transport vessel filled primarily with children would be a prime target for slavers, but it did seem odd that they somehow knew the Oracle would be here.

Perhaps it was coincidence, it didn't really matter as Jade knew for a fact that there was an IT-O Interrogator droid aboard that would get any and all information from the survivors, the few she intended to leave alive that was. Pirates, slavers, sith or otherwise none of them mattered to her, if her family was under threat then she wouldn't leave survivors. With that the Jedi knight made her way to the cargo hold, bracing herself against the corridor wall as one of the hostile ships seemed to be destroyed. She could sense them though, the presence a few dozen meters away as they docked with the Oracle, Jade stood waiting for those padawans she had called to meet up with her, a couple of her fellow knights joined her but she quickly ordered them away, to go and patrol the rest of ship and watch over the younglings, this was something she knew she'd be able to handle, with the support of the padawans they'd make swift work of the two dozen or so hostiles that were waiting patiently on the other side of the docking shoot, hunters waiting for the thrill of the hunt. Sadly enough for them, Jade stood, hands resting on her sabercane for the same rush, the burning need to protect her family.

It was quite the scenario for the grouchy junker. The ship he called home was suddenly filled to the brim with children and strangers. The younglings however were hard to be upset with as was usually the case. It was just so bewildering that so many of them would become brave young jedi. That is to say if they could survive. Dip however did not dwell on these thoughts for long as he was interrupted by the banging of small hands on his door. The junker sighed as he slipped off of his chair and punched the key pass to open his door. With his face unconcealed it was to be expected that the grinning faces of the five younglings at his door were replaced with awkward looks and cringes. Dip clicked his exposed teeth together and sniffed loudly in front of them before speaking out in his harsh voice to break the silence. "Well? What did you expect another pretty jedi lady?". Some of the younglings shook their heads whilst others snapped out of their stupor and spoke to him. "What is your name? Are you a jedi like Jade?". Dip relaxed his eyes to a friendlier disposition and brought a hand to his chin and lifted his head as he pretended to ponder. "I am Dip, and if I think about it I can't really be a jedi without the force.". He looked back to the curious kids before him. "I am just an old friend. Now move along I am busy with a personal project.". He turned his back to the kids as they looked to each other and whispered among themselves, and lifted a hand to make a gesture to shoo them away when the voice of the RX pilot droid rang through the comm's. “Mistress Jade, it appears we have ships approaching us, they seem to have hostile intent”. The door shut behind Dip before he could see the worried faces of the children as they moved along back the way they had came. Dip's arms fell to his sides and he took a deep breath. Jade's voice soon followed the previous announcement through the speaker in his room. It was a call to action that he would answer. With that in mind he reached for his mask.

Once suited up in his usual rags and metal he came through the door and looked about. The halls were silent yet they shook from an external force. Dip gripped his rifle in hand and ran through the halls until he made his way to the medical bay. Once he came to the door he was met with a few Lightsabers hovering before his eyes. The two young padawans before him stood silent as he held his arms out. "Please don't point those at me in my own ship.". The two stood down and let him inside as he inspected the crowd. This area seemed to be secure for the time being. Without another word he left the room again and made his way to the rec room to check if it too was secure.

Jyn liked children. Mostly because they weren't as emotionally demanding as adults. When you grew up in this galaxy, you were taught to never trust anyone, never be friendly, because friendly gets killed. The Galaxy had a way of turning giddy young faces into bitter scrunched up expressions. But here, the children were happy, and Jyn was one of those who refused to grow up completely, it was why he joked around a lot. But the best part about the children was they didn't try to ignore the fact he couldn't see. Someone Jyn's age would be all awkward around him after noticing he was blind, ask several awkward question, trying to ignore it and trying to pretend they couldn't tell the difference. But the kids would just ask "Why do you have no eyes?" And he would gratefully reply "I was born without them." And the kid would say "Oh." The End. It didn't have to be any more complicated then that.

He was trying to use the Force to lift one of the children when Jade's voice came over the intercom, startling him and nearly dropping the child. Thankfully, he eased the fall with the Force, and the child had no idea. Apparently there were some hostiles outside. That just wouldn't do. Every time Jyn had a good day, the universe decided to throw something bad into the mix. Like taking a delicious fruit smoothie and throwing a piece of rotten bantha poodoo. Not good. Jade called his name to go to the cargo bay. Despite the fact that his good day was now a bad day, a small part of him jumped with joy I finally get to fight! He thought to himself. He was dying to use his lightsaber, and now he would get that chance. He sprinted towards the cargo bay where he would meet Jade and the other padawans, hopefully they were just as eager as he was for a good fight, because either way, they were getting one.

Vishhk was silent as the assault shuttle locked onto the victim transport. He wasn't sure who was inside, but they were putting up quite a fight to escape. This would be a good hunt, one for the scorekeeper to remember. The others inside were anxious and nearly foaming at the mouth in their excitement. Their weapons were ready and they were clawing at the docking port for a chance to pour into the ship bringing death alongside them.

"Boysss, do not underssstimate them," he hissed at those in his shuttle and over the comm to the secondary shuttle. "Take them alive, unlesss they are too young."

The young second mate had a lot to prove in a success here. After last week's failure over that material freighter the captain scolded him. There could be no failure. It brought him great displeasure when he noticed the third shuttle had not made it to the boarding action. They would need everyone possible if the markings meant what he thought they meant: Jedi. Vishhk was prepared for anything. He had a fully loaded DLT-19 Heavy Blaster Rifle that would annihilate any opposition, and make even a Jedi tremble in their attempts to deflect it. At his waist was a pair of DL-44 Blaster Pistols and a Phrik-enforced vibro-sword. His men had a mixture of weapons from stolen bowcasters to ryyk blades to blasters of various makes. They all wore simple flak armor, including Vishhk.

A loud hiss could be heard as the docking port connected into the ship and they finally had access to the interior of the ship. It was time. Vishhk let five of his men lurch out first before he made his own entrance into the ship. It seemed they had a welcoming party. A Jedi welcoming party at that. With his suspicions verified, Vishhk hissed loudly for his men to take care as he trained the heavy blaster rifle on youngest looking padwan of the group and fired two consecutive shots for the torso. The rest of his men poured out behind him from both ships and blaster fire erupted from most while the blade-wielders rushed the flanks. They had no intention of getting slaughtered by Jedi on this day.
