[tr1] Maneuverability: It handles well, for its size, but is slow to accelerate and somewhat lumbering in velocity. This heavy freighter sacrifices speed for protection for the discerning spacer. Maneuverability: Extra features have slowed the ship down, but the need for speed is heavy for pirates; as such, Captain Saffron has spent a good deal of time and credits to ensure the hyperdrive is tweaked to peak performance. While it does not increase the ship’s flat velocity, it does make it capable of bursts of energy without damaging the reactor; this makes jumping to hyperspace much quicker, giving an edge when dealing with pesky customs agents or border patrol, as well as the ability to turn much more sharply to competent the fore-facing fixed accelerator cannons. Redlining the hyperdrive in this way dramatically shortens the life of the drive, but Captain Saffron is capable of maintaining it and confident in her abilities.[/tr1]

[tr1] Description: The Voruda -class heavy freighter is a fairly expensive and extremely capable ship for merchants who frequent dangerous routes. It is designed to stay in the fight long enough to get out of the fight—a job it does well. Its hull is composed of a durasteel shell with ablative durasteel plating for inexpensive repair. The interior features mostly duraplast to save weight. While the ship is not especially fast, when one considers its size and weight, it pushes the limits of its hyperdrive; wealthy merchants often upgrade the engines as soon as possible.

It is one of few freighters to contain two decks of operation; the top contains twelve private quarters, an engagement room, and access to the bridge, while the bottom deck contains access to the cargo bay, engine room, and auxiliary services. Each deck is equipped with six escape pods along the ventral section of the ship’s neck, just behind the bridge.
Description: The ship has been modified to fit the needs of the pirate’s daily affairs. The ablative armor plating at the mid-port and mid-starboard sections were removed to mount aftermarket fore-facing fixed heavy laser cannons, which give the ship a devastating weapon for its class at a significant cost of weight; this is where the ship loses its speed over the civilian model. The interior personal quarters located in these sections were collapsed to install a service chamber for the cannons and converted to an armory. Much of the ship, especially the upper deck, has been modified to be outfitted with rudimentary living quarters, while a portion of the bottom deck has been renovated for recreational rooms.

A bay entrance to the cargo hold was added, allowing dry-docking for a small number of diminutive secondary ships. The new dry-dock entry to the cargo bay required the bay to be partitioned for functionality; a wall was installed separating the cargo hull from the docking bay, allowing the cargo to remain pressurized should the docking bay door’s field generator fail. The docking bay door is also fitted with a durasteel blast door for emergencies.

The boarding halls are small, flexible, telescoping corridors that remain collapsed around the rear crew entry doors on the lower deck. Upon command, four magnetic spikes attached to wire reels are fired using compressed air; they latch onto any ferromagnetic surface up to 30 meters. Upon contact, the hallway extends along the lines and forms a seal around the surface (as long as it's flat enough). The hall does not receive gravity from the ship, but if the time is available, it can be pressurized. The hall is composed primarily of duraplast, and has a high tensile strength while maintaining essential flexibility, but is susceptible to movement of either ship; thus, it is best used when the ship is defenseless or otherwise motionless. The hallway can be used to access a ship's exterior crew doors, or to allow the deployment of man-portable hull-cutting lasers. The hall is equipped with an alarm system that alerts anyone inside if the tensile integrity is no longer safe for passage, hopefully allowing them time to evacuate.

Regardless of the technicals of this writeup, thank you so much for putting the stock specifications and the custom specifications.

Something I do need to point out is that this will need to be submitted by @Nor'baal , as it's Czerka Faction Tech.

We discussed this and I acquired his permission before posting this; suppose I probably should have said that. Lol

I'm sure he means magnetic accelerator cannons, or simply just railguns. Those are real.

With the size and the amount of weapons the stock version of this ship has, it may as well be a corvette. I would say drop some of the cannons and the torpedo launcher for the stock version.

Axed the torpedo tube from the stock version-- that wasn't necessary. With four blaster cannons mounted at the port/starboard sides of the bow, the ship has no rear offensive capabilities (the turrets can only move so far). I feel to remove those would be to give it only as much firepower as a regular freighter, which defeats the purpose of a heavy freighter.

The ship is intended to be a better-armed freighter, so it's supposed to have more weapons than most others; there are other freighters, smaller than this, that have a bigger variety of deadlier weapons. Not that I'm trying to compete-- just commenting that there is precedent for well-armed freighters.

People buy freighters to carry cargo, weapons are usually added on by their owners

Perhaps it's one of those Armed Merchant/Q-Ships type things.

I mean, Star Wars is basically World War I/II in space...so it fits.

Armed merchant ships were only armed because they were targeted by the enemy, they never came with weapons and it was the navy that outfitted them.

May I ask why mass drivers/railguns have to go? Just wondering.

I too, would like to know what precisely what this entails, from @Tribunal Power, before I consider it. If they are mass drivers/railguns, as I suspect, they will most likely have to go.

Yes, they are rail guns. Magnetically powered kinetic slug cannons. They are classified as "light" because, while they are more firepower than one would typically see on a freighter, it's nothing like a capital ship would have. These won't be punching through armored hulls any time soon-- it's like the diet version, but is still a costly and large modification to the ship.

The power of the weapon is balanced by the fact that it can only be fired frontally and can only be adjusted by moving the ship. They are also costly to feed (ammunition can be costly to acquire or manufacture) and the ammunition is bulky to store. The electromagnets require a substantial amount of energy, detracting from maximum output elsewhere, such as the engines or shields.

The idea is that these weapons are used to either get the drop on unsuspecting ships, potentially disabling them if caught unawares (via a direct hit to engines or other support systems), or to finish off critically injured ships. Because they require kind of a perfect storm to land a hit, they aren't the kind of thing that would typically be used in active combat (they would need to be turreted to be practical). They are effective against unarmored or lightly armored ships, such as civilian freighters. They lose effectiveness against heavily armored ships, where certain types of blaster cannons would be more effective.

If that is a problem, I will modify of course, but they are kind of a part of what makes the ship special for piracy use, so I will be sad. Lol

Just make them laser cannons. Railguns are a massive unnecessary bag of worms.
