Hello folks! I am wondering if there is an official write-up for tech equivalent to a Light Shield. I remember before I went on a hiatus there was talk of one, but I am not sure if it was finalized or not. If I recall correctly, the one that was in the works had a maximum hit count of 3 hits before it is destroyed and is also the size of a buckler. If I am unsatisfied with this, am I able to alternate it in small degrees to fit the theme of my character better so long as I strive to make the weapon balance? Or would I have to chalk up another write-up and wait for approval?

Yeah I saw that and I don't think that will work for what I was hoping to create. The design for my next character is a Jedi who essentially relies on a sword and shield fighting style. He would use the shield interchangeably with the lightsaber as a form of dual wielding instead of just wanting to activate a shield to absorb a single hit or two. Think of your typical sword and board tank archetype you'd find in RPG's or D&D.

yeah i can say it's unlikely that will happen though since that would make someone who is wearing full armor would be considered overpowered. you could potentially do it if you stated somehow that it wouldn't work with heavy or even medium armor on the person and that it was a "one of a kind" shield that only your character used. I would just as soon get a buckler sized phrik shield and see if that worked.

Yeah, obviously I do not want to be overpowered so I am hoping to find some kind of balance. For instance, given that this is a form of dual wielding, he may have limitations on active force powers and thus be limited to more passive abilities. Also, I never thought about armor restrictions, but I suppose that can work too.

Do you have the link for the phrik shield?

Essentially my goal is to make a Paladin (warrior with holy magic). I am making a Battle Healer hybrid character and the way I envisioned him is that he would fight on the frontlines with his allies engaging the enemies but prioritizing support. I envision him decked out in armor with a shield and a crossguard lightsaber, specializing in defensive techniques as oppose to offense. The purpose of this character isnt to kill, but rather stay alive on the front lines in order to help his allies stay alive, and his reference is Bjorn Ironside so the Viking look suits him.

I am hoping that there is some way to make this work.

If your looking to block lightsabers with it, just go for a wrist mounted lightsaber, it'd be more versatile than a straight up shield.

Other then that, I just want to point out that the only thing needed to block a lightsaber is an electromagnetic field. The shield gauntlet mentioned above would work, but your limited to one hit.

If your really interested, I would go the route of modifying lightsaber technology to fit the shield gauntlet design. The plasma shield would be able to cut like a lightsaber, but it would also be able to block one. You'd definitely need a write up for it though. Personally I don't see the point though since the wrist maunted lightsaber would serve the same purpose plus it has the added versatility of also being a weapon.

@Undine might seem ridiculous, but a write-up would be worth it to be simply out of pure flavor in RP. I might be weird that way.

Well I don't see anything inherently wrong with the idea, hell I would say it's generic tech with an exotic touch, but it's the exotic touch that makes me feel like it'd need an actual write up. Could ask the tech admins for their opinions, but they'll most likely just have you do the write up anyway, regardless of if they will approve it or not.
