Light Shields

Is there are write up on Light Shields and are they allowed? I have a high interest on making a sword and board jedi, so I am hoping they are.

If Light Shields are allowed, what is the material of the shields? Is it plasma like lightsabers or another kind of energy? (I.e. gungan shields). The articles I read suggests lightshields are like lightsabers, but it doesnt go into detail as to whether it is harmful if it is touched.

There's one currently in the Tech, though it is not approved yet. I'm not sure if there's something already considered "generic tech" there might be.

Thats interesting and all, but it looks to be a temporary tool where I am looking for something with more longevity. I was going to make the character's primary fighting style feature a sword and shield if it were possible.

That's the only thing i know about. That's not to say there isn't something more. And I think the idea is that it can be recharged and reused. But it's like any armor. In one fight it only has x amount of hit power before it's rendered useless. Most armors can only be hit three times at max before it's useless in the fight.

It's an effort to make it so people aren't Overpowered. I believe last timeline they had a lot of MY TECH IS BETTER THAN YOUR TECH type stuff. So they're really making sure things are fair when it comes down to fights and such.

Echani Light Shields are fairly abundant, and they're typically Cortosis woven. That could be something to consider.

Hm.. i was more thinking about having it be something he crafts like his lightsaber, but I suppose I can use the Echani Light Shield. My question is, do I need to use the Light Shield that is in the tech profile, or can I use my own variation?

I was mistaken, the shield is a protective field. I looked into it more. Lol. I could've sworn they had a shield like that though.

No. They're not Generi-Tech. Clayton and I are reviewing personal directed shields as I type this.

It's part of Legends. It's clearly labeled Legends. And it's one and only source is a single novel. And that source is even unlicensed, meaning even it's Legends level canon is dubious. So no, it's not Generic. And even if it's canon, like say, the Mandalorian Death Watch's wrist shields, that does not automatically mean me or Clayton will approve it, if we see too many issues with it. We are here to keep the RP fair and interesting. It's why disruptors, which are canon, are banned from SWRP. They're too powerful.

Ah, sorry for the confusion. I was at work and looked at the article on my phone and didnt see the legends tag. I guess I'll remove the light shield aspect of my character and find another avenue to go with them.

You don't necessarily have to forget the idea. As I've said, Clayton and I are currently considering the idea of wrist-mounted buckler type energy shields.
