Ive still to see an official , its still a " source" so just my nature I wont acknowledge much until I see official press releases..

but this is called a liquidation of a brand... meaning LA was hemmoraging money ( which it was) and its getting assets dissolved and merged into other stable branches, I see nothing wrong with it to be honest on a business level. Which actually still keeps the fangirl in me in check, despite missing the golden era games I played in the early 90's

because to be honest..LA " itself" has not done crap on its own since the late 90's everything has been leased and collaborative, and that wont change

EA seems to be purging alot as of late, from all its studios and even top executives so there is a chance the investors didnt take the whole golden poo award and such well....

It's not totally shut down. They're still going to be licensing Star Wars games, they're just not going to be making them on their own. That's not even a new thing for them. Some of the most successful and beloved Star Wars games, like KOTOR and the Jedi Knight series, were published by LA but developed by other companies.

The previous thread talked about knee-jerkism because it made it seem like the sky is falling. That's what this thread is still doing. People who freak out about this are still knee-jerkers. Yes, LA is different now. No, you don't know what that means for the future of Star Wars games. Think, don't freak out. There are any number of paths forward for Star Wars video games, any number of which could be incredibly successful.

People are freaking out over change, not what that change will bring. You still don't have that crucial piece of information.

Never really saw LucasArts as a giant in the industry. Not really upset or shocked, honestly, since I agree with Kotaku that they haven't seen any commercial success in recent years. Disappointing that their in-development titles are canceled though.

EDIT: Per Bac - LucasArts' best titles were ones that they contracted 3rd party developers to do. Not surprising that they're now a purely publishing company instead of publisher and developer.

No-one is freaking out. Kotaku is usually right about most things and they most definitely are gonna be right about this.

Huh.

Fooled me. All of those are over-reactions when we don't know what this really means.

To be fair, Ush doesn't count. He's always like that. :3 Besides, they would have been like that had I not showed it and they read it themselves.

EDIT: They are in-control of themselves.

That I don't. But I'm kinda pissed off about those two games that we will probably never see again, ever.

It wasn't because you showed it to them, it was in spite of the fact that you showed it to them (and, of course, because you started your thread off with a taunt).

My point is that we shouldn't treat this is a huge deal until we know the actual deal, and by that I mean what this change will bring for the future of Star Wars gaming. Sure, we know that First Strike and 1313 are probably not going to happen, but they never really looked like anything all that special anyway. Two months from now the greatest Star Wars games ever could be announced -- or, the worst Star Wars games ever could be announced. Right now, all we know is that the focus of LA has shifted. Speculation is fine, and it's good, but I just don't want to see anyone get upset over it because that is knee-jerking. I'd say the same thing to anyone jumping up and down saying that this is the greatest move for Star Wars gaming ever.

Some may be "Eh" but to me I still think it's pretty big. You don't have to care as much as me.

EDIT: I put the exact same title as Kotaku.

I feel like Disney should have produced before they started making these changes. Because without production of anything all we've seen is change and, for lack of a better word, destruction, of what we've come to know and be comfortable with. I think it would have been a smarter move to release a game or movie before making all these changes and incurring the wrath of most SW fans. Because unfortunately most fans aren't as cool and level headed as Brandon.

It's big in the sense that it shows how Disney is putting forward their vision of Star Wars and changing the structure of Lucasfilm for the future. It tells me that Disney didn't buy Lucasfilm to make Star Wars movies and to get all of the merchandising revenue, but because they have a long-term plan for the company and for the Star Wars franchise. What it doesn't tell me is what that will bring or mean for the future of the franchise. Personally, given that Disney knows that they need to do a good job with Star Wars, I think it will likely end up meaning good things, but I just don't know. There are so many variables at play here.

Whatever wrath there is will be short-lived. If Episode VII is good, then people will forget all about this once the Star Wars theme blares across movie screens again.

This isn't the first time that a game under Lucasarts goes into development hell at all. In any case, neither of their in-development titles really had anything going for them: Uncharted meets Star Wars and a first-person shooter that's likely second-rate due to its market focus (designed for the XBL Arcade doesn't sound like a AAA title to me). It's possible Disney thought so too.
