Fuuuuny that the Hitachi HD they sue has faster boot speeds than the Western Digital does not. I don't think you know what you're reading when you read the benchmarks.

From the article itself:

Win7 performs better, that's just the way it is.

/facepalm

You're missing the point entirely. There's going to be studies either way about performance speed and all that crap. Mac has a distinct place in the market, it's certainly competitive compared to Windows because, like I said before, it's faster (you can't deny loading speeds of programs), easier, and is generally superior in multiple categories- the same way Windows is superior in some categories. If Mac was such a shitty concept, then it wouldn't be nearly as popular as it is.

@Sheo- MacBooks are good computers, and even though the price is higher I have no buyers remorse whatsoever. After trying them and the OSX, I wouldn't go back to a regular Windows PC (the entire thing feels clunky). So... In my opinion, it's certainly worth looking into further.

Have you used Windows 7? Saying that the programs for OSX load faster is a bit ridiculous, yeah some programs load fast as hell on a Mac, but you can say the same thing for a PC. Theres a reason Microsoft Word takes a bit to load, it has so much to process, theres hundreds of different things going on in Office 2007 that can be changed.

I'll agree with Mac being more user friendly for film/music, but like Ruukil was saying, its user friendly to people who are amateurs, any geek off the street can go buy a Mac and make a movie on it or make a song, which is awesome to have that capability. Though if you want to be main stream you're going to want to use more complicated programs that can obviously do more. Macs can't do everything other programs can do, they can do a lot of things and in simple sense, but you can't get Autotune to work with FCP and is a pain with Garage band so that kinda rules out that which where music is right now, that can be a key component for mixing/altering voice/tune pitches and what not.

You can say what you want about PC and about Mac, but both have their flaws and pluses. Mac is an easy to use computer that can do a bit of everything at it's most simple of form at least, and PC is a bunch of components all thrown together from different countries by different people and it works most of the time.

My girlfriend works for Apple and I'm a huge PC fan, so I've heard both sides of the story, and had plenty of pissed off lady troubles as well :CStern:

The MacBooks themselves are competitive, yes, and most Apple computers are. But the OS? Nah, that shit is a very small percentage of the marketplace. You gotta remember that Apple computers are the only place you're going to find Apple operating systems, unlike Windows where just about all computer manufacturers use Windows operating systems. This is why Apple has broken their prior oath to never run Windows on their computers, because they need the market.

Typing this on my Macbook, circa 2008

Respectively I use both PC and Mac. But I will never, and I repeat. NEVER use a PC for Video editing. I am in a Broadcasting major program and I am also a graphic designer and videographer by contract. Now, in terms of usability to break it down.

Video Editing:

Second to none platform - The OS itself excels in making sure that each task allotted is carried out efficiently. If anyone has ever tried to render HD video with Premiere on a Windows platform; they will know this. Overall, Mac presents a much nicer layout and UI to work with for editing. Far more efficient.

Sound and Music Editing:

Soundbooth basically does what Audition does; although Audition is a little more advanced. I personally am fine with just using Soundbooth as neither make a huge difference to me unless your doing super uber advanced editing. That being said I know quite a few music producers that use Macs as both primary's and secondaries. They have their place and with more industry support their slowly creeping up there.

Graphic Design:

This is iffy, while I would usually say "Yes, Mac's FTW" I think I may have to just support Windows with graphic design. I used Photoshop primarily on Windows up til 2008 and I must say I enjoy it much more thoroughly. I really dislike the UI for Mac supported Photoshop.

Anything else -

Mac's are very much Industry tools. Their great at doing what their meant to do and thats about it. If I wanted to write papers, spend the majority of my time in a different field then I would buy a notebook. Same if I was a gamer.
