Most of my early life was spent in a dark, dirty, and over crowded room. The only source fo light came from a small wooden door that had cracks in it. It was literally a pit. Every day the door would be opened, a man would descend, and some of us would be taken out. Only one or two would be returned. They were good enough to sell off. For ten years I was treated like cattle, sold to one person or another, and labored. From one dark room to another, no other life but service. Until Lucien came along. It was his kindness that got me out of there... his killing of the man who would have me call him master. I know he didn't do it because it was right. He did it because my master was trying to kill him. Though it was an act of kindness that Lucien took me with him. For that I will always be indebted to the man. Doesn't hurt that he splits the pay fifty-fifty when we get done with a job. The life I live now is a far cry from back then. Instead of being kept beneath the ground, I am amongst the stars.
