Description: Mandal Arms recently reviewed the future needs for an effective Mandalorian military in the field of armaments to design a series of weapons to fit these needs. Part of this project was the R5 and P5 blaster rifle and pistol. The next in line to be designed and produced was the R9 Heavy Blaster. The weapon was designed as a squad support weapon for firing larger blaster bolts intended to take down armored foes with more ease, as well as destroy armored droids, damage tanks (by knocking out treads), and the like. It was not designed as a rapid-firing repeating blaster, as some mistakenly believed when first it was field tested.
The concept appeared as the R9 a year after designs first started. Several different modifications were field tested, but issues with durability disqualified most modifications from being continued. Eventually Mandal Arms settled on a design called the Mk 5, which became the R9 Heavy Support Blaster. The weapon was deployed in limited amounts among Mandalorian soldiers for field testing, and gained great popularity among the same for its massive stopping power. The voices set to review it were clear; It had met the specifications set up by Mandal Arms, and as such, went into mass production for Mandalorian military soon after, marketed as part of the R-Series of next-generation infantry blaster weapons.
The R9 unlike other blasters fire a larger than usual energy bolt, powerful enough to easily penetrate and even shatter most modern personnel armor. Due to the size and stopping power of the weapon's blaster bolts, a new, larger power cell had to be created to accommodate the ammunition need, while due to the weapon's energy consumption, still offering only 20 shots per power cell, the only notable drawback found by Mandalorian soldiers to the weapon.
