Crystal Kryze and Dax Vizsla versus Tanx Solus and Doren Rau

The Trial of Teams was meant to test a warrior’s ability to work in a team setting and was the first stage of the Mandalorian tournament. In this round of fighting, two teams of two would battle for supremacy and to render the other team incapable of fighting back. If a Mandalorian could not work in tandem with their fellow warriors, then the crusade would be doomed to failure from the start; this stage would show the War Council who was a liability and who was not.

Situated on the water planet Aquaris in the Expansion Region, this arena consisted of several floating metal square platforms surrounded entirely by water. Each platform varied in size and could be anywhere from 5 meters by 5 meters to 15 meters by 15 meters. The platforms formed a layered box: the smaller 5x5m platforms formed the outermost layer and held no more than two platforms per side. These platforms floated around the larger 15x15m platform in the center. Some were rectangular, but all were generally square in shape. Each platform was connected by a three-meter bridge of approximately two meters across, but the bridges are unstable and slippery, just like the rest of the platforms. The side platforms had a larger L-shaped bridge connecting them to allow for movement between sides and was no wider than two meters across.

On each platform, box-like structures provided varying degrees of cover – on the smaller platforms, they would be no taller than chest height, while the largest platform in the center held several pieces of cover, some reaching as high as two meters and as wide as one meter. The layout was random, but no piece of cover was within three meters of the other, allowing plenty of open space for melee. Gentle waves would make it difficult to maintain proper balance on each platform. Falling in the water wouldn’t cause the warriors to forfeit the fight, but it would be difficult to recover once an opponent had that advantage over someone.

Each member of the fight had their own unique, randomized loadout.

Crystal (@Algarus) would be outfitted in nothing more than a giraffe onesie with thick, slip-resistant combat boots and carry a single DH-7 blaster with 3/4 ammo in it and one spare ammo pack for a heavy-damage sniper rifle. She has a 2m piece of rope tied around her waist.

Dax (@Wit) would be outfitted in the helmet, torso, and leg plates of medium beskar’gam with the two listed functions and bola launcher and carry a Model-B Stun Baton and a 1m long, 10kg metal pipe.

Doren (@Gian Greydragon) would be outfitted in both leg plates and the right arm plates of neon fuschia heavy beskar’gam with a water-squirting flower stuck in the concealed blade sheath that he is not aware of yet and carries a collapsible staff that’s covered in some kind of strange, highly sticky substance. The crowd is immensely dismayed by whatever this substance is. We don’t want to know, but it came from a Hutt’s private storeroom. There are bells on his armor that jingle and jangle with every step. It’s super festive!

Tanx (@christhebarker) would be outfitted in an armored flight suit with barely-working gription boots that will last one round and carry one 20 cm-long vibroblade and a 2x4 wooden plank with a smiley face drawn on it.

Around the arena were ships hovering above the water so contestants could watch. Several droids floated around, streaming the fight for the rest of the Mandalorian people. The Mand’alor and War Council would watch as well, judging the fighters on their skill, tenacity, and ability to adapt.

Dax was having a hard time trying to remember a time when he had entered a battle not wearing his own armor and carrying his own weapons. That sense of being naked that he felt without his gear felt odd to him, given how recently he had actually discovered what it truly meant to be a Mandalorian. He was well and truly one now, and this was just another step in proving to himself that he was finally worthy of calling himself a Mandalorian. There was much honor to be gained in participating in and winning this tournament, but that was not really why he was here. He was here for himself.

Turning his head to the side to glance at his rightly dressed companion for this first stage of the tournament, he let out a slight smile which was thankfully hidden behind his helmet. It wasn't a smile at her expense, but rather at his own fortune at having missed having drawn the short end of the straw. But the two of them didn't really know each other, and it wasn't beyond the realm of possibility that she would have mistaken his smile for something more malicious. And that was something he had learnt well before he had learnt what it meant to be a Mandalorian. You did not piss off a gal, specially a Mandalorian one.

"You ready?" He called out to Crystal on the adjacent platform as he turned his head back forwards, staring across the stage to the smaller platforms on the other side of the central one. Their opponents waited there, similarly dressed in a motley assortment of armor and weapons. Spinning the metal pipe and the stun baton, held in his right and left hand respectively, he judged their weight and tried to get used to their balance. They, along with the bola launcher on his right hand gauntlet, would be all he had to put up a fight.

Though if push came to shove he was more than happy to just punch it out. That brought another smile to his lips, his father would have loved seeing him doing something like this. Well, time to do him proud.

[OOC:] This image is how I thought we might start off, or some arrangement like this if it's cool with everyone:

When this day fight started, Crystal had been looking forward to the first match. What she couldn't have known, was what gear she would receive upon setting foot into battle arena. Of all the gear to be given in the galaxy, why the feth did she get a giraffe onesie? This had to be some sort of joke, or she royally pissed someone above her off. Either way, she'd given them a fight. She'd be the deadliest giraffe this galaxy had ever seen.

Holding her blaster pistol on her right hand, ammo pack in her left, and a rope around her waist. She looked over to Dax as he called to her, and she would reply back. "Hell yea I'm ready, let's kick their ass!" She hollered, her cybernetic hand tightening around the grip of her pistol, her mind formulating a plan of attack, as they awaited the onslaught of their opponent. There was already one advantage that she was seeing from her perspective however, looking at the platforms and the distance between their adversities.

this tourney certainly was unusual he thought they might have got all the same equipment so true skill could shine through, but this was just ridiculous, looking at the one on the other side just wearing giraffe onesie, he was happy he was at least to be wearing armour, though only being armed with vibroblade and 2x4 plank was less than impressive, what was going to do with a plank, throw at them? but it was he had, he would have to make do.

"you goo- what kark is that?" tanx exclaim towards Sumas seeing his quarterstaff covered his something he'd rather try not to comprehend, this completely distracted him from the bright pink armour pieces and the bells on his cloths his companion where wearing. "Never mind, just tell me you ready so we can get this thing going," he said long way to focus on their opponents and to get whatever he just saw out of his mind.

Doren stood half-dressed in heavy Beskargam leg and right arm armor. Beyond that, his chest, head a left arm were exposed to the elements. His gauntleted hand held the schmootz-covered staff as he stared at it questioningly. "Where's they say they got this crap from?" he asked, more or less to himself, before he looked up to his obviously disgusted comrade.

"Yeah, I'm ready, with kriffin' bells on! Literally, look at this!" he said, moving his armored legs and arms, as small bells jingled with every movement. He, then, returned his attention to the questionable liquid covering his collapsible staff.

"I don't wanna know what it is either, let's just hope I can fling some of whatever it is at someone," he chided, and spun the staff around, extending both ends, and flinging some of the mysterious fluid to his left and right. 'Well, at least it's got some reach,' he thought to himself, before digging into a ready stance with both hands on his staff.

Dax began walking forward, crossing the bridge that connected his smaller platform to the central one and came to a stop two meters within the platform from the bridge. Before he began walking, he spoke as softly as possible to Crsytal, keeping his voice loud enough to only be heard by her.

"Take your shot when you get the chance, I'll try to get in close." That was all he needed to tell her, she was a Mandalorian, she would know how and when to attack. Exploiting an opening when it presented itself was one of the first lessons a warrior learnt. And given the rather limited arsenal at their disposal they would have to exploit every opening they got.

The baton and pipe ready in hand, he stood alert, observing his opponents and ready to react the moment they sprang into action. They had close range weapons like him, so they would have to come close to attack. He would let them make that first move and then take action.

Given he was the more experienced of the two, Crystal would follow what Dax said. She only moved up about a meter on her own platform, then brought her pistol to bare. Dax would begin his walk across the bridge, and stopping at his destination of choice. She would let the rope drag behind her. She leveled the blaster, aiming towards her foes opposite of them.

She steadied the blaster with both hands, preparing to fire at the first of their opponents that would begin to move forward. She would wait for them to move in closer of course, off the bridge platform before squeezing off a shot; once they moved within 8-10 meters of Dax. They had to come to them, so they would play for the advantage with all that they had.

And just like that the fight began, Tanx started walking forward across the bridge that connected to the centre, he stuck to the right side of the bridge as a piece of cover 1 meter wide and 1.5 meters tall, that partially covers the bridge from crystal perspective.

once across the bridge he would take cover behind the metal sheet that he used to obscure Crystal view of his approach, he would wait for Doren to get on the central platform before making any further moves or plans.

Doren moved forward with Tanx, keeping an eye on the onesie-clad Mandalorian with the blaster pistol, as she was the greatest thread at the moment, while they were outside melee range. The sticky substance on his staff became an afterthought as the action mounted up.

As his two opponents approached the central platform and Tanx took cover, Dax started walking forward before breaking into a sprint. While Tanx took cover, Doren seemed to have his eyes on Crystal. They were both wary of her. Well, he was going to use that to his advantage.

As Doren had approached from the platform directly opposite from Dax, he was the natural target for him. Dax started running forward straight at Doren. The moment he was five meters from him he jumped and activated his jump boots. Flying through the air above the Mandalorian, safe from any attack with his opponents' lack of any long range weaponry, he nonetheless kept his eyes open for any danger. As he landed behind Doren, a little over ten meters fromm whre he had launched himself and on the bridge that connected the side platform to the central one, Dax turned around to face Doren. Wasting no time, he raised his right arm even as he was turning and taking aim he fired the bola launched straight at Doren's abdomen.

With Doren out in the open, and Tanx behind cover, he was also counting on Crystal to take this opportunity to take a shot at Doren while Dax had his attention. If things went as expected they would have one opponent taken care of. There was no need to ask her to take advantage of that opening, she was a Mandalorian and that was all Dax needed to know to trust her to make her move.

As for him, after firing the bola launcher he would begin moving forward towards Doren at a walking pace. But depending on how Doren reacted to the attacks Dax would be ready to either stop or rush in. At the same time he tried to stay wary of Tanx, in case he saw the other Mandalorian move towards them in his periphery.

Crystal smirked as Dax found his target, she felt rather secure about this whole situation. She watched as the man made his way across the arena, readying for that opening that he had told her to watch for, and soon it presented itself. Seeing the Mandalorian sail the air, Crystal saw the moment she was told about. Tanx had done the smart thing, getting into cover, but Doran on the other hand, his position was very much exposed.

As Dax would move in to strike at Doren, Crystal prepare to fire the shot. Once the Mando touched down and fired his Bola at the man, Crystal would fire her shot, striking him the the upper back, right between the shoulder blades. Doren would be distracted by his newly arrived opponent now, his mind would briefly forget about the red haired woman clad with a giraffe onsie that had him dead to rights. Unless Doren had some inhuman senses that she didn't know about, it seemed unlikely that the man would be able to dodge the shot. Even if she somehow missed, she wouldn't have to worry about striking Dax with a shot, as even if Doren somehow managed to avoid the shot, it would sail past Dax without risking injuring her partner; being she was diagonal to Doran, the line of fire wouldn't threaten Dax. Ideally, Doren would be taken out, leaving the pair to just face down Tanx. Crystal would direct her aim towards Tanx now, as while she didn't have a clear shot at him, she could keep him contained behind cover at the very least.

Doren put up little defense as Dax fired the bola launcher, the durasteel wire winding itself around him to restrain him even as Crystal's shot hit him from behind. The combined effect of the two attacks left him restrained and would most likely send him toppling to the ground. Dax would take no changces and seeing Crystal's shot hit he would rush in and slam the stun baton into the restrained Mandalorian's unarmored chest. The stun baton's discharge would surely knock him out and remove him from the fight.

With Crystal already having a lock on Tanx, and assuming Doren was out of the fight, Dax would start moving towards Tanx, approaching him from the side and coming to a stop around three meters from him, more than a little outside melee range. He was waiting for the charge on his boots to return before he made his next move, always good to have an escape plan. Besides, being so close to him, Tanx would have to get out of his cover to engage him. Potentially opening himself to be targeted by Crystal.

Having dropped their first foe, Crystal set her sights on Tanx, who was still in cover. Dax was already moving to engage, and she wasn't far behind, as she moved to get a clear shot on Tanx shifting towards the opposite side that Dax was covering. She kept her blaster steady, able to cover both of Tanx's exits. She kept her distance at four meters, getting a clear line of fire if Tanx decided to run and engage Dax, and giving her a clear dead shot if the man broke off to come at her. Tanx was in a bit of a pickle, his only real option was to try and lure Dax into engaging him, but there was no reason for her partner to do that. Crystal kept herself ready, focused on what Tanx was going to do. Either way, the moment he broke cover she would be there to fire at him, there was no cover to save him, now it was just a waiting game. If Tanx wasn't going to press the advantage now, then they would later. It was all a dance right now, and Tanx had two left feet and no partner to spare.

Well Kark was the thought that went through his mind seeing Doren going down, now he was stuck to between a rock and a hard place. If he left he was likely to be shot by the chick with the blaster, so he had to play defensive.

He would wait for the Mandalorian that took out Dorean to make the first, he would just hold his position and ready himself for any coming attack from him with his blade in hand.

Before the two contestants could continue their fight, a fully armored Mandalorian field marshal landed neatly in the middle of the arena, having jumped from his ship flying above and using his jetpack to guide his descent. He looked at the three remaining fighters, hen to the droids flying around and broadcasting the event on the Holonet.

”This fight has concluded!” he shouted, ensuring everyone could hear him, ”The other duel has ended and this one must come to a judge’s decision. The Mand’alor and his War Council have made their decision, and it is final!” He paused for a moment to build up suspense before drawing his beskad and pointing it at Dax and Crystal.

”The winners of this duel by decision are Dax Vizsla and Crystal Kryze!”

There was a time limit established for the duel, and, unfortunately, this fight had run its course. Dax and Crystal had maintained the offensive almost the entire fight, and, having defeated Doren fairly early, would be almost guaranteed to win this one. The War Council’s decision was final, and they would not entertain any resistance.
