PERSONALITY:
Marcus is serious or caring only when he feels like it. Unfortunately, he only cares when someone is offering him a substantial amount of money or something really interesting is going to happen. He will spend alot of time in and around bars having a good time even though he does not actually drink very much alcohol. When he is unable to find a bar or anyone to steal from though he will keep his fighter and gear in the best possible condition. This is somewhat at odds with his normal lax attitude towards life and material things.

HISTORY:
Marcus is from a colony on the edge of the expansion region. The colony was rather small, quiet, and incredibly boring. Marcus was, from a young age, very rambunctious and constantly getting into trouble. He would ignore his studies and skip school every chance he got right up until near the end of his years in middle school. It was during this time that a band of pirates had come together and managed to create a minor fort for themselves in a nearby asteroid belt. The Republic dealt with the pirate group rapidly and efficiently. They sent a pocket carrier and a pair of destroyers to not only deal with the pirates but make a show of force throughout the nearby systems. One of their first showings was an entire squadron of fighters flying over Marcus's home colony. When Marcus saw those fighters streak across the sky overhead he suddenly knew what he wanted to do with his life and it did not involve messing around forever stuck on this little planet.

Seeing those fighters had been a life changing event for Marcus and after seeing what he truly wanted in life he really began to buckle down in his schoolwork. Not only did he stop skipping school entirely he worked diligently at his studies causing his grades to jump up dramatically. Even though he did work much harder to get good grades he still had regular problems with authority figures and thanks to learning better time management actually messed with his teachers more than ever. His practical jokes became more elaborate and he got caught less often as he learned more from his teachers on how to do things. This often had his teachers quite distraught as to what to do as they knew it was him who would perform jokes, but he was becoming a good student and he was difficult to catch.

It was only a few more years until Marcus graduated from his high school ranked in the top 5%. He immediately went to the graduation party and had a great time with all his friends. Right after that though he enlisted with the Republic Armed Forces. His entrance exam scores allowed him enter training to become a Republic fighter pilot. At first the academy seemed like an extremely interesting place to be at. It was only too soon for Marcus that things became monotonous though. The regularity of military life was almost as bad as the boring life he had back on the colony. When he did get to fly though it was the pinnacle of his entire day. When he could not fly in one of the training fighters he was willing to settle for using a simulator, even though it was not as good as the real thing. As time wore on Marcus and several other top students got increasingly frustrated as they left all of their peers behind and had nothing really interesting to do. The bar fights eventually got old as they could take most other pilots, but got repeatedly taken down by MPs even when they had the MPs outnumbered.

During his last year at the academy Marcus developed a plan that would allow him to still fly and not have to worry about being constantly ordered around by noisy officers. He got together 11 other pilots at the academy who he trusted and had enough skill to be in the same league as him. After assembling his little group he all told them his plan to steal a ship transporting a squadron of training fighters, they all agreed with little prompting. It did not take very long to set up their plan thanks to their group knowing who and what would be where. Then shortly after the first hyperspace jump he and his men moved into action. Despite being only 12 men they had the element of surprise and had all been nearby the bridge when they attacked. They stunned almost everyone on the small in the first second and forced everyone else into the cargo bays.

With the ship securely under their control, the group of deserters immediately changed course from the Republic military base to a planet far seedier. It was here that they sold the transport and left all of the Republic personnel. Marcus was sure that they could find their own way back to the Republic military base after all. He then used his newly acquired money to buy his entire cadre a half squadron of fighters for them along with a medium transport. This is where his pirating career really began to take off. They targeted primarily smugglers as they generally carried things that are very valuable, but did not carry them in bulk. Plus, the smugglers rarely carried weaponry capable of threatening the fighters. Recently Marcus has merged his small group of pirates with the larger Bloodied Hand pirate group.
