Melania most likely had at least one parent who belonged to the Kiffar species. She had vague memories of her mother and father but she couldn’t recall what became of them. They were scavenging for a living one day on Takodana, and then the next, she was all alone. She didn’t know whether her parents had been killed, or if she had simply been abandoned. Naturally, there was no one to take pity on the child, nor was anyone willing to take her in (no matter how much she begged). The streets of Takodana were not kind and Melania learnt quickly to rely only on herself. When she realised no one was coming to ‘save her’, she was forced to make do. She rubbed shoulders with fugitives, smugglers and explorers alike; learnt how to thieve and steal. Some lessons came easier than others, but more often than not, Melania had to learn the hard way how best she could thrive.
She lied, cheated and fought (tooth and nail) until encountering her first Jedi. The Togruta master had been on a scouting mission, searching for what remained of the Takodana Outpost. Initially, Melania had hoped to rob the Jedi, not quite realising what exactly he was. Needless to say, she did not succeed. Master Amal however, took the encounter in stride and recognised the Force within Melania; he spent a good few hours (and credits) convincing the orphan to consider a future with the Jedi Order. She mulled over the idea, enjoying the first hot meal she had in days. Admittedly, it wasn’t exactly the most thrilling of prospects; Melania didn’t really have much faith in the ideas of hero-hood. Master Amal, however, convinced her that it was even more reason to join - to become a beacon for the masses otherwise left to suffer and starve. Reluctantly (with little enthusiasm), the Kiffar pre-teen agreed to at least train as a padawan and ‘see where the Force may lead’ - as Master Amal had put it. At least it meant having regular meals and shelter.
The girl is still very much a delinquent in the eyes of many, given her rough transition into the Jedi Order. Her near orphan-like upbringing meant Melania had to become both independent and resilient. Having grown up without parental guidance, she had to make her own decisions and face challenges head-on. As a result, she possesses a rather rebellious nature; the untold amount of neglect and mistreatment suffered by her means she would sometimes reject authority figures and rules, even going so far as to question and challenge them rather openly. The more constrained she feels, the more it manifests in acts of defiance and the pushing of boundaries. Naturally, Melania has developed a tough and brazen exterior in order to better protect herself from the hardships she faced, she might have developed a tough exterior. The youth has also developed a degree of street smarts; adept at reading situations, Melania can usually assess people's intentions and make quick decisions as a result. It has saved her life more than once, so she often does not question her ‘guts’. With limited resources, the delinquent padawan learnt the hard way how to make the most of what's available. It is thanks to this that she can’t find unconventional solutions to problems, as well as improvise tools and engage in petty theft to survive.
Naturally, given her past experiences, Melania finds it hard to trust people, especially adults. Building trust could be a slow process, and she might initially view others with skepticism, assuming hidden motives. On the streets of Takodana, she sometimes saw the worst society had to offer. She does not have much faith in humane kindness. Also, growing up without a stable support system led to her developing a difficulty in expressing emotions. She suppresses her feelings as a defense mechanism, avoiding vulnerability to prevent potential hurt. This, more often than not, manifests in heavy sarcasm and snarkiness.
Melania has a lithe, slender figure, though she sometimes wears many layers of clothes which are oversized. This gives her the appearance of looking more bulky; she had developed this particular style of fashion as it allowed her to hide stolen goods more easily on her person. She had dark eyes and equally black hair that is regularly cut. Melania does not like to let it grow very long as it tends to get in the way and annoy her. After a particularly nasty encounter on the streets, she actually has an aversion to being touched, especially her hair. Sporting several ear piercings, Melania wouldn’t be immediately recognisable as a Jedi, especially since she refuses to wear the traditional Jedi clothes. The black facial marking is a near permanent feature, going across her cheeks and nose; every now and then, this will be touched up and reapplied as she has not yet had the opportunity to get it fixed as a tattoo. The marking is similar to that of the Kiffar Vos clan - the variation in colour, however, suggests Melania perhaps comes from a branch of that clan. Nevertheless, she claimed the Vos name as she heard it mentioned frequently amongst conservations with her parents.

- Piloting Small Vehicles: She has (on many occasions) stolen several small speeders, as well as constructed a makeshift vehicle of her. This has made her skilled in maneuvering through tight spaces, evading pursuit, and escaping tricky situations.
- Lock Picking and Sabotage: Delinquents often learn to pick locks and disable security systems. These skills were valuable to her when it came to sneaking into places and sabotaging equipment as needed.
- Scavenging and Engineering: Being resourceful, Melania scavenges and repairs equipment frequently, making use of discarded technology to create useful tools or weapons.
