NAME: Merrik Ban (prefers just to be called Merrik)
ALIAS/NICKNAME: Hayze (the bounty hunter)
FACTION: Jedi Order
RANK: Jedi Knight
SPECIES: Human
AGE: 24 years old
GENDER: Male
HEIGHT: 6'3"
WEIGHT: 185lbs
EYES: Dark brown. Almost black
HAIR: Black; very curly
SKIN: Caramel brown
CREDITS: 1000
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: He has a permanent tattoo that spans his left arm. It is a compilation of the various animals he hunts in his free time.
FORCE SENSITIVE: YES!

STRENGTH: Merrik's strength is above average. He's no body builder, but he's pretty tough.
DEXTERITY: Merrik is quick and nimble. He prefers to run, jump, and slide his way across the battlefield to get from A to B. His former master would often say he "fights like lightning." He also has finely tuned reflexes that serve him well in his intense combat style.
CONSTITUTION: Very healthy. Doesn't get sick often, and when he does the illness only lasts for a few days at most. (unless of course, this is some kind of Space AIDS or something the immune system can't naturally fight off.) He also tends to heal quickly from combat wounds.
INTELLIGENCE: Very intelligent though he may not show it. He picks up new skills and concepts quickly and is always lookling to learn more.
WISDOM: Moderate. As he is still young, he hasn't been around long enough to gain extensive wisdom.
CHARISMA: low-moderate. Merrik's lax and kind nature gains him some persuasive ability over nice and trusting people. Mean, paranoid, and evil people generally don't get along with him though.

PERSONALITY:
Merrik is a kind soul that likes to keep a relaxed attitude most of the time. He is usually happy to help people and is always looking for tyrants to take down. He believes in freedom of the mind and body and so he is against the Jedi's restrictions on emotions, knowledge and force powers and only sides with them to serve a just cause (saving people, defending innocents, killing Sith, etc.). He is also against the Sith as they force people into servitude and abuse them for their own amusement, stress relief, etc. Merrik also believes that life is a gamble, and if you hold out things may go your way. As such, he thinks there are no lost causes and that even the Sith can be redeemed if given the opportunity. He utilizes both sides of the force and tries to develop new abilities as he comes up with them. In combat, Merrik keeps a level head no matter how dangerous things get. He doesn't fear death and will happily charge into battle for anyone that needs help. Finally, He is always looking for some friends to help him on his quest of heroism and he tends not to judge folks until he feels he's gotten to know them well enough.

Merrik isn't a perfect guy though. He is somewhat lazy and will put important things off until the last minute. He loves to fight and sometimes openly shows it, though he usually keeps calm in battle. Merrik also often disregards "small" rules if he doesn't feel like listening, reading whatever. He sometimes refuses to think about his actions altogether and will go on his intuition alone which has gotten him in trouble throughout his short life. Finally, he hates pirates and Sith with a burning passion and is a bit of a romantic: being easily swayed by epic tales to seek his own adventures, passions, love interests....which often gets him into uncomfortable situations with the Twi'Lek dancers...

BIOGRAPHY:
Early Life

Merrik was born on Concord Dawn, a Mandalorian-controlled planet, to a Corellian smuggler and Mandalorian woman after a one-night stand 9 months prior. The smuggler refused to accept Merrik as his son, and soon after left the planet. The woman decided she would raise the child on her own and make him into the greatest warrior her clan had ever seen. For the next 13 years, she alone trained the half-breed boy to be a great warrior, focusing on his speed, dexterity, and strength.

While his mother trained his body, the other Mandalorian kids trained his mind. Every day, Merrik was ridiculed. He was the bastard half-breed, the mistake. Merrik was bullied often and treated like a runt, which he was. Merrik knew this, that he was worthless, and so, he trained even harder than his mother forced him to. From suns up to suns down, he worked and worked until finally, when he was 13, he was strong enough.

That day, Merrik approached his oppressors and confronted them. Rage filled his mind and the boy snapped. He brutally beat the others into submission, breaking arms, legs, necks, and egos left and right. And when the dust settled, Merrik looked around and smirked. He was the runt no more! From that day forward, Merrik was the pack alpha. The other Mandalorian kids followed his orders without question and would not dare to so much as joke around in his presence. Merrik was happy to see the tyrants put in their place... but he didn't enjoy the way they'd started to treat him. He feared he had become the very type of person he'd despised so much for so long, and he hated it. So, he adopted a forgive and forget policy. He opted to befriend the other kids rather than be their boss, and he decided that was the best way to go about life. He thought being calm and forgiving rather than allowing his hatred to grow any further was the superior option, and it was. Things went well after that. For the next 3 years, he and his friends got along, and he continued his training...until an unfamiliar space ship docked in town.

Teen life
The ship was full of Mandalorian bounty hunters looking for apprentices to take on their interplanetary escapades. The hunters looked through all the kids in the small town and decided they would only be taking one: Merrik. Merrik didn't argue, as neither they nor his mother would've listened, and was taken to the dark void above.

For about 5 months, Merrik traveled the galaxy hunting criminals and rare animals and listening to old war stories from the Mandalorian warriors. Each adventure and tall tale set his imagination ablaze with his own epic scenarios. He began dreaming of his own tales of heroism, killing evil Sith lords, Hutt crime bosses, and great beasts like the mighty Krayt Dragon. He began to develop a love for honorable combat and was happy to team up with his new crew to go on epic hunts across the galaxy. Under the wing of Captain Rollo Fett, Merrik took high paying bounties as well as dangerous hunts on numerous planets across the galaxy. But most significant of these escapades was his first major bounty hunt.

In this adventure, Merrik was tasked with hunting down and capturing a dangerous Bothan assassin known only as Zyro on the planet Tatooine as Zyro was believed to be hiding there after his last attack. Captain Fett was actually taking this bounty, but he told Merrik that it was to be his first only to teach him about the surprises and unknown competition Merrik would face as a solo bounty hunter in the future.

Upon landing on Tatooine, Merrik began searching for the assassin. He questioned everyone in town, searched all of the buildings as best he could (without being detected of course), and even took a job as a Czerka corp merc to gain access to the Dune Sea. However, after days of searching, he couldn't find a single trace of the assassin, though he persevered. A week after that, he was finally ready to give up, and he trudged through the thick sand with a heavy heart and an intense feeling of shame, back to the ship. Upon his arrival the others told him about the captain's plan and the lesson it was supposed to teach, and they redirected him to the cap's location: A cave in the far eastern Dune Sea. Dreading the coming lecture and demonstration of the "proper" bounty capture technique, Merrik made his way to the cave, dragging his feet the entire time.

Upon his arrival, he heard a loud clanging noise, and then a cry of pain. "AAAARGH! YOU BASTARD!" Merrik rushed in. His mentor lay on the ground bleeding with a vibroblade in hand.

"ROLLO!" Merrik blurted out instinctively.

"RUN BOY!" Rollo replies as he makes a feeble attempt to cut the assassin. Zyro laughs and deflects the attack with ease, he then sets his sights on Merrik. Frozen with fear, he quickly looks around for something, anything that could possibly help him. That's when he spots Rollo's D238 Rancor blaster revolver in the sand a few feet away. Rollo had droped it during the engagement with Zyro, and now, it was the warrior's only chance for survival. Merrik ran at the blaster and baseball slid right next to it, picking it up in one fluid, badass motion. Merrik got up on one knee, blaster in hand, and quick-fired three shots, slapping the hammer back between each firing. The intense recoil of the weapon knocked him on his back, and he was unsure if he even hit the Bothan. He timidly sat up to see if his shots connected, and to his surprise, two of the three landed in the assassin; one in his head, the other in his chest, leaving holes four inches in diameter in each. Merrik laughed in celebration. He wasn't going to die! He scooped his mentor off the ground and the two made their way back to the ship. Rollo collected payment for the bounty, and as a reward for his hard work and role in the completion of the mission, Merrik inherited Rollo's D238 "Rancor". From then on, Merrik adventured with his Mandalorian brothers as an equal, taking big bounties and hunts just like the rest of them.

As they continued to adventure, Merrik was exposed to the underbelly of society. He met gangsters, prostitutes, con men, smugglers, and even pirates. At first, he thought himself to be above these undesirables just like his Mandalorian mentors did. But one day, while on Coruscant for some R&R, he met a beautiful Twi'Lek girl named Lann.

Lann was the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen. With her shimmering green eyes and a warm smile, she was like a goddess of some ancient Twi'Lek religion. Merrik was completely entranced, but felt that she was far beyond his league, and so, he simply walked past her without a second thought...or at least, he tried to. As he passed, the girl of about 16, stepped in front of him.

"Hey there! Looking for some company?" Merrik was disgusted.

"No. Not from the likes of you." He shoved the hooker to the side and stormed off in a huff. Moments later, he heard yelling, a smack and a resulting cry of pain.

"DAMMIT LANN! THAT'S THE SECOND CUSTOMER THIS MONTH! PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER OR I WILL END YOU!" That was all Merrik need to hear. The sounds of abuse reminded him of his own past and suffering he'd endured at the hands of tyrants. His rage exploded in his mind. Merrik spun around quickly and marched straight toward the Zabrak pimp. "You change your mind kid?" Merrik looked around, and realized he wouldn't stand a chance against the pimp and his friends in a fight, so he did the next best thing.

"Yeah. how much will 300 credits get me?" The villain smirked.

"Two hours." Merrik made the exchange and took his rented prize into a nearby alleyway. As soon as he felt they had a good distance on the thugs, Merrik grabbed Lann and broke into a full sprint. The gangsters gave chase, but gave up when the duo ran into enemy territory. "FINE! YOU CAN HAVE HER! SHE'S WORTHLESS ANYWAY!" The two were safe and alone. Lann expressed her gratitude by giving Merrik a kiss on the cheek and offering to show him around town. Merrik's thirst for adventure took hold and he agreed, and over the next month, the two became inseparable.

In this time, Merrik discovered the wonderful world of gambling, and he found that his favorite game was Pazaak. He also met and befriended several "undesirables" ranging from thieves and smugglers, to stimulant dealers and con men. He realized that these people weren't so different from him after all. They, like him, had all been given a bad hand in the game of life and have done what they could to work with it. Merrik learned to stop judging people on outside appearances, but rather on their character. This was especially true for Lann.

Though at first glance she was just another prostitute, in reality, she was a kind and compassionate girl who loved to make friends. Merrik and Lann grew ever closer over the course of their month together, eventually forming a romantic relationship. The two happily shared their dreams and aspirations with each other. Merrik wanted to be a galaxy renowned warrior, and Lann wanted to be the galaxy's most famous dancer.

Merrik decided to help make her dream come true. He talked a small-time cantina owner into letting her dance there and even spent his remaining credits to buy her a new outfit for her performances. All was well. Lann had started her dream career and was doing well. Merrik had his story book romance for his heroic tales of the future and was set to embark on an epic Krayt Dragon hunt on Tatooine in a few days. But, as always, tragedy struck.

The night before Merrik was to depart, Lann was taken by a band of pirates and was found dead the next morning in a nearby alley way, and of course, Merrik was the one who found the body. He was destroyed. His closest friend, his first love had been slaughtered. He didn't know what to feel. He mostly felt empty, like some part of him had just been severed. A few minutes passed, and Griff, A Twi'Lek conman and friend, explained what happened.

"The Pirates came to town last night and stopped in Garrun's cantina. Their captain took a liking to Lann and...well, took her out of the bar. He came back half an hour later and said she wasn't worth the trouble. My guess, she fought him, and he slit her throat." Griff's words had little effect on Merrik at first, as he was still in shock after the discovery. Merrik eventually came to his senses and decided to leave Coruscant early as he'd figured the pirates had already left and there was nothing left to keep him on the planet. Merrik began somberly walking to his ship, wanting to cry, but holding it in as it was unfitting of a warrior; his memories of his beloved clouding his mind. But then, off to his right, across the street, he heard:

"Morning captain! You and the Twi'Lek sleep well?"

"I did, but the girl refused me so... she's still sleeping ha ha." Merrik snapped. For the second time in his life, his rage completely consumed him. He whirled around with blood lust in his eyes while showing intense fury in his body language. For a minute straight, he stared at his lover's killer and imagined the many ways he'd get his revenge. Finally, he gritted his teeth with an evil snarl, clenched his fists, drew his D238 Rancor heavy blaster revolver, and fired a shot. BANG! Time froze. Everyone on the street stared as the pirate captain clutched his goon as if holding the man would keep him from passing on from life. The captain let out some bloody gurgles from his mouth before collapsing to the ground with a thud, and with a gaping hole in his chest full of red mush. Blood for blood. Merrik turned back toward the loading bay where their ship was preparing to depart and began walking once again, this time with an expression of disgust and anger rather than one of intense sorrow. Upon boarding the ship, the other Mandalorians asked him if he knew what that loud bang was a minute ago. Merrik's expression reverted to a distant, emotionless look as to hide his true feelings from his brothers.

"A couple of pirates were being stupid at the cantina, trying to show off I guess." The warriors took Merrik's word as truth and returned to their launch preparations. All except captain Rollo Fett, who recognized the sound as a blast from the D238 Rancor he'd given to Merrik as a gift when he completed his first bounty. Fett knew Merrik preferred not to kill people and figured Merrik had a deep personal reason for using the weapon in town. As such, he didn't pry for a truthful answer. Fett let the young warrior keep his secret, as he thought it would probably hurt Merrik to tell it more than it would hurt anyone else on the crew to not know it. With that, the group left Coruscant and embarked on their Krayt Dragon hunt. Everyone was excited, except for Merrik, whose mind was still on Coruscant. In leaving the planet, Merrik left behind the greatest (and most sorrowful) time of his life, and his mind wouldn't let him forget it.

All was well. The crew was excited about the hunt and the full month of vacation they'd just wrapped up and everyone (except Merrik, of course) was doing fine...until the pirates showed up. The squad of raiders had followed their ship, wanting to avenge their dead captain. They peppered our hero's ship with fire from all sides, leaving no way for the big ship to escape. The crew knew that the ship would be destroyed in minutes and they resolved to fight to the death. Merrik knew he would die if he tried to fight, but he didn't care anymore after losing Lann. So, he ran to the gun turret on the front of the ship, but someone stopped him.

"Nope. You're leaving. No arguments." It was Captain Rollo Fett.

"BUT-"

"DAMMIT BOY, I SAID NO ARGUMENTS! I DID NOT WASTE THE LAST YEAR OF MY LIFE TRAINING YOU FOR YOU TO DIE IN A BATTLE WITH THESE LOWLIFES. NOW GO... GET IN THE DAMN ESCAPE POD!" Though it made him sick, Merrik followed his orders one last time and abandoned his brothers in arms to save himself. The Mandalorians fought ferociously, determined to kill as many pirates as possible before they died. Merrik silently said his final goodbyes and launched his escape pod. The raiders were so focused on combat, they didn't notice the departing pod.

Boom. Merrik was alone. He had lost the woman he loved, his family, and his self respect. He was floating through space with no destination, no food, no water, and no hope. Days went by. Then right before Merrik decided to end his suffering, a mysterious ship appeared and grabbed the pod. Inside the ship was Merrik's soon to be jedi master: Koba Ban.

Jedi Training
Koba saw the dying boy and nursed him back to health. After some time Koba realized Merrik was force sensitive. He knew the Council would refuse to train the boy, so he decided to train the kid himself. And so, Merrik's Jedi training began. Koba was a grey Jedi under the jedi order, and as such, he greatly influenced Merrik's philosophy towards the force and galactic affairs. Over the course of 8 years, Merrik mastered padawan level force skills, numerous languages, and finally dual wield light saber skills. When he was ready, Merrik was then taken to make his own light saber and was given the title of Jedi Guardian by his master. With the blue sabers in hand, Koba took his secret apprentice to the council to initiate him officially into the order.

The council of course didn't want to accept the recruit, but after Koba insisted, they devised a trial to prove the boy was jedi material. Merrik was tasked with defeating a Sith on Kamino. Koba was ecstatic. His apprentice, his "son" was going to be a Jedi knight after all. But once he started thinking about the fight and the danger Merrik would be put in, fear began to consume him. Koba tried to ignore it, telling himself that the Madalorian half-breed could hold his own against the dark lord himself, but the more he told himself this, the less he believed it. Eventually, the fear was too much. Koba simply couldn't bear to lose his padawan and so, he took matters into his own hands.

While Merrik was taking passage on a freight ship en route to Kamino, Koba darted off in his Gallium Sparrow, a much faster ship, to defeat the Sith apprentice before Merrik even arrived. Koba got there mere minutes before Merrik did, so he knew he'd have to hurry to save his boy. Using the force, Koba sought out the sith and challenged him to a duel.

The duel was a quick one. Koba underestimated the apprentice's speed and got his right hand chopped off within minutes. Now fighting with only his inferior hand and one saber, Koba was no match for the surprisingly skilled Sith warrior. He put up a valiant effort, but was defeated with a quick stab to the gut.

Merrik arrived on Kamino soon after. After disembarking from the freight ship, he took a look around and noticed familiar looking ship.

"Huh. Kinda looks like the Gallium Sparrow...guess the old man's ship isn't as unique as he thought."

He thought nothing else of it as he continued to walk out of the docking bay.

At the end of the hall, there was a crowd of aliens blocking the enterance to the city. They were gawking at something and whispering frantically. Merrik decided to investigate. As he drew near, the whispers grew louder. The people were talking about a jedi....a dead one. Merrik was very intrigued now. He forced his way through the crowd, eager to see what had befallen one of his soon to be comrades. To his dismay, he discovered his teacher, maimed and bleeding out on the floor. Merrik rushed to him.

"Heh heh...Merrik! Good to see you boy! *COUGH COUGH*"

Merrik was broken. His master lay dying before him and there was nothing he could do.

"Listen, I underestimated that Sith bastard. He's quick like you-*cough* but don't worry, you can take him. Speed and arrogance are all he has. You've got the strength and tenacity to back it up. NOW GO! MAKE ME PROUD BOY! *HACK cough cough* ....and live well..."

Merrik was grief stricken. For the third time in his life, the only person he'd cared about was taken from him by a tyrant. He was lost...but then, something inside him snapped. Again, his sorrow turned into pure rage and his blood began to boil. He stood up silently, wearing a solemn expression on his face. He took up his master's light sabers and went forth, all without making a sound. To Merrik, nothing else existed, not the crowd behind him, not his dead master, only revenge. Ready to fight, Merrik, tears the large metal door blocking his path out of its slot with the Force, and he enters the Sith's hangar.

The Sith was surprised. He thought he killed that worthless Jedi. He turned around with an annoyed expression on his face to see, not the old master, but a young apprentice like himself.

"Ah, you must be the fool's apprentice. What? Are you here to challenge me? Fine, I'll just kill you too."

Merrik's rage grew. This arrogant bastard was really aggravating him.

"What, cat got your tongue? Or are you just frozen with terro-"

SMACK.

Merrik used his telekenisis to interrupt the Sith's speech with a 100-pound crate to the chest, knocking the villain on his back.

"WHAT THE FLA-"

Merrik attempted to crush his skull with the same crate, but the Sith noticed and rolled out of the way. Merrik then discarded the crate and ignited the silver lightsabers as well as his fury, and the onslaught began. Silently, he dashed forth swinging the blades wildly. The Sith used his own blade to block the incoming attacks, but the exasperation and fear being displayed on his face showed that he was struggling. Every attack was like a hammer, pounding away at the poor Sith's feeble defense. After a few minutes of straight hammering, Merrik grew even more furious, and his attacks grew even stronger. He began to go numb, allowing his instincts to take over completely, and his assault became even more wild. Merrik spun around, flipped, slid, and jumped as he attacked, making it almost impossible for the sith to defend. Finally, he managed to disarm the Sith...literally. After one particularly ferocious attack, the Sith lay defenseless on the ground and Merrik capitalized. He stuck the tips of both blades into the ground, and trampled over the now defeated Sith apprentice, effectively "disarming" him.

The armless evil doer lay on the floor, begging for mercy, but Merrik was not amused. Seeing that someone like this had slain his master only served to make him even angrier. The Sith began spouting out nonsense about returning to the light side and being good, but Merrik didn't waiver. He knew that this tyrant had to be stopped permanently, that there was no redemption for the likes of him...His mind was made up. Merrik dragged the Sith into the city by the hair, and dangled the liar over the raging ocean below. The Sith made one final plea for forgiveness before Merrik dropped him.

"PLEASE! I'M SORRY! I'LL CHANGE! I'LL CHANGE!"

"No, you won't...and even if you could, I won't let you."

Merrik dropped the armless man into the ocean to drown, collected his master's corpse, and returned to the Council on the Gallium Sparrow. Merrik was commended for a job well done by the council, and was promoted to Jedi Knight. An honorable funeral was held for Koba and Merrik inherited all his master owned.

One more year passed.

Merrik's General appearance. He refuses to wear the helmet however, as it "Smells like bantha poo-doo in there." (the helmet is worn only when he's masquerading as "Hayze" or when he's going into a dangerous battle.) The third pic is from @Sreeya. Gives off a cooler image.

photo taken from bing images.

th

Model: Lok's D238 "Rancor"
Type: Heavy Blaster Revolver
Cost: 800 Credits

Size: 10 inches long
Range: 80 meters
Weight: 8 pounds

Ammunition Capacity: 6 shots

Description: Heavy and powerful, this is a real hunter's weapon. With its double action, extreme range, armor piercing capability, and high stopping power, all you need is to land one shot with her and your target will probably bleed out (unless the target is wearing armor). But be warned, this is not a weapon for the weak. This monster has tremendous recoil, is a bit heavy, and only carries 6 shots at a time, but if you're quick, strong, and practiced, you may be able to tame this beast.

Loving this write-up my friend. I am concerned, as you apply to the Jedi, by this part (which could tie into your history). Can you address and tag me back?

ALIAS/NICKNAME: Hayze (the bounty hunter)
FACTION: As a grey Jedi, Merrik works with whatever faction currently serving his interest whether they be Sith, Jedi, or grey Jedi like the Fulcrum. If given the option however, he prefers to work with those that share his ideals, leading him towards the Fulcrum as his long-term faction. He currently works with the Jedi Order.

EDIT: Also, rank would be "Jedi Knight".

@Marcus That was the original write-up for the character's faction. This was more me recording ideas rather than my intentions for Merrik's actual faction. I plan to have him join the Jedi Order for quite a while and MAYBE realign with the Fulcrum if they ever get up and running, if that's okay. If not, I'd rather stick with the jedi order. I've fixed the faction segment of the OP.

Also, I fixed the rank. Thanks for the compliment on the write up! took me forever to make.
