Alex sat behind the counter of the Arkanis Royal Library in his letterman jacket and jeans. He'd never actually earned the letters of course; he was much too nerdy for that. Too busy studying, programming apps to hack jock social media accounts, and reading the latest fantasy novel was more his vibe. They'd all make fun of him in school, always spending time in libraries and in his room with the lights off and computer on. The moment they needed help with their homework, or had technical issues with their devices and gadgets, they'd come running to him.
It was a lonely life, but a good life he reckoned. He was reading a physical copy of The Way Of Shadows. The main character had just lost track of his childhood friend, and become an assassin type. His expression changed as his eyes moved through the words on the pages. Funny, happy, sad, mad, anger, funny again. It was a roller coaster of emotions and he loved every second of it. There usually wasn't much to do at a library but read, and he was pretty damn good at reading if he did say so himself.
Patrons came and went, an automatic kiosk had been set up for check out and turn in. He was mostly there to help people find a book if they needed, and to tend to the droids that would do that job for him if they needed it. Sometimes he'd even program a few applications to throw up on the EZ Appstore while he was here, but the library computers were slow and he'd forgotten his own today. Didn't matter, he had found a gem of a book. He flipped the page, running his fingers through his brown hair as his brown eyes shifted from word to word behind his glasses.
There was a sign that said "no eating or drinking" at the front but he was happily eating some buttered toast with a glass of milk. Every so often some guys that had known him in high school would come around and joke about him being milk-toast, but he didn't mind. They had peaked in highschool and mostly worked as speeder salesmen. Alex didn't make as much as they did, but he could damn well say he was happier than they were. Except when they came around with their girlfriends. He hated when they did that. They were too pretty to date douchebags like that.
