So with the close of 2016 we've seen some truly amazing movies come out this year. We got some amazing ones like: Captain America: Cival War, Deadpool, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Rogue One, however, we also got some not so great ones (personal opinion here) X-Men: Apocalypse, Independence Day: Resurgence and Ghostbusters. Overall 2016 was a mixed but enjoyable year for movies. With 2017 looming over us, I personally haven't seen too many of what could be great movies. Most of what I've seen is pretty horrible and mediocre at best. I'm not sure if it's just me but 2017 just doesn't seem all that great... perhaps with the exception of one or two movies... Anyways, I'm just curious as to what to SWRP community thinks. Which movies are you looking forward to most in 2017? Least? How do you think it's going to turn out as a whole?

Me personally I'm really hyped about the new Spider-Man. It looks like it's going to be Amazing (see what I did there :D) and I was blown away with the trailer considering most of everything else I've seen so far isn't all that great. Also is that Vulture as the villain for Spidey? The only real thing that seems to be missing are the Osborns (but this is only the beginning after all). As far as to which I think they should can straight away it's a real toss up between Transformers (seriously they haven't learned their lesson yet?) and the new Power Rangers... So much cringe... so much hate... so much rage for a personal childhood favorite...

2017 is going to be an important year for DC, with Wonder Woman being highly anticipated and the arrival of the expected Justice League movie. They regained some ground with Suicide Squad (which was easy to do compared to Martha vs Martha Batman vs Superman), but it evidently wasn't universally well received. I haven't been particularly impressed by any of the DC movies I've seen, so I'm not holding my breath just yet.

Marvel movies have been on a freight train of hype after hype, with Thor being the only series that really failed to stand out on its own, so it's understandable to be looking forward to Spider-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. We'll see if Thor: Ragnarok can finally turn around the mediocrity of the previous movies with Hulk being in it. Logan also looks promising, despite still being a 20th Century Fox property.

I'm particularly interested in seeing how Ghost in the Shell will turn out. The story is supposed to be a mix of the animated Ghost in the Shell movie and the TV series Stand Alone Complex stories (both of which are well received). If this GITS movie sticks to the material well enough, it's an easy cash in, but the recent GITS releases have been shifting away from the philosophical tones in favor of action sequences. The trailer that they released seemed to be trying to appeal to the older audiences that liked the more philosophical GITS by drawing on the iconic scenes from the GITS animated movie, so we'll see if it holds true.

Well that goes without saying that this year is going to be big for DC. Personally I think if they keep with the current actors and actresses they have for their tv shows for the movies and go with a lighter tone for their movies, it shouldn't be all that bad.
