It's Been a Long Time

"Do we really have to be out here, of all places?" Grumbled a lanky youngling as he sat looking out towards the sea of crops. "Isn't being a Jedi about fighting..destroying the darkside?"

Vorro would glance towards the boy with a bit of a nostalgic grin, to be so young and free. The galaxy was a different place than it had once been, the fighting continued as well as the losses. He had seen it with his own eyes--and could feel it to. The weight of the lightsaber that clung to his waist was enough to remind him of how different things had become. At one time he believed he had the answers, knew the way to turn the galaxy--that was long ago.

He wasn't quite sure with where to go or how to make a change to the galaxy. He had an idea, but it was simply just that. So the aging knight found himself stored away on this crop forsaken planet, looking to help those who needed it. Maybe he could make a difference, maybe not--it wasn't like the Jedi really would seek him to come back.

Shifting his eyes towards the crops he would respond in a faint tone, "Being a Jedi is about simply accepting the galaxy and life around you, to understand your emotions and accepting them, but not letting them control you. It's about defending yourself and your opponent." He would sigh as he stood up from his rest area. "Now we have to head down to the outpost town, we have a job to do.."

The boy rolled his eyes as he kicked his boots against the dirt road, "Don't tell me you're going to have me changing compressors on the water moisture devices again."

The Jedi Knight simply laughed as the two of them began their journey down the road.

Chakaa was walking along with his trusty protocol droid, Rust-butt. "Master I do believe we are lost, we're both going to die out here! I'm too young to die!" Chakaa tuned out the hysterical Droid and focused on why he was out here, at the local cantina in town he'd started asking about Camby berries, and where he could find some, it was the Ewok's favorite treat after all, and had been pointed to a location outside of the city. Arriving at the location revealed no Camby berries, he'd been lied to.
Grumbling to himself the Ewok didn't understand how someone could lie, about Camby berries! What was this galaxy coming to, looking out in the distance he sees two figure walking down a road, gaining his Droids attention he points them out. "We're saved!"
Picking up his pace he quickly catches up to the two, he needed to get the Droid a memory wipe, the droids constantly worried approach to life was cramping his style.
Falling into step bear the man he looks him over before speaking in the Ewok tongue, his Droid translating.
"Greetings sir allow me to introduce our selves, I am R5-T..." Chakaa interrupting within spattering of Ewokese, Giving sigh the Droid restarts with much less enthusiasm. "Greetings, I am... Rust-butt, and this is my Master, Chakaa Tyrraki. He was wondering if there were any cambylictus berries in the area as he was told there was, but is beginning to think he has been lied too."
Nodding his head Chakaa confirms that that's what he said as they get closer to the town.

His hands tugged at the harness that wrapped his torso before connecting between his legs. For the moment everything seemed snug. Looping his thumbs underneath the shoulder straps and gripping a little tighter Jazen could only close his eyes and wait. The craft began to rattle from what seemed like the inside out, at least Jazen thought so. It wasn't until the interior began to heat up that bad thoughts crept into the young man's head; had he made the correct choice?

What did you get yourself into this time... fool.

The exterior of the escape pod whistled through the calm sky that others might mistake for a scream. The bright glow it resonated while plummeting could've been mistaken for a sun crashing. But it was the final sound that would catch anyone's attention that hadn't seen or heard the rest of the show. The thunderous smash of the cone shaped pod into one of the many open fields could've been mistaken for an artillery shell. The percussion moved soil and as the craft tumbled to a stop the dirt cascaded around it. Even after the impact, portions of the durasteel vessel smoldered and flickered with lively flames.

The craft was silent after it came to its final stop. Despite the pain that ran up and down his right arm, Jazen, was able to reach to his center and began unfastening the harness. The fall that followed made him aware of just how injured that right arm was, as he let out a painful scream of his own this time. With any luck he could get the pod open before anyone got to him.

The knight and the youngling had been walking for a few hours, stopping every now and then to observe an interesting cloud or critter that scattered into the stocks of crops. The summer heat bore down upon the two of them, and the air was dry--signaling the importance of their mission. The planet had been plagued with a severe famine that had caused the crops to grow frail and bitter. To make matters worse, it appeared that there was some sort of infestation that had taken root this year.

Their mission was a challenging one, albeit mostly boring for his youngling student. There wasn't to be any fighting, but instead that of negotiation and aiding in construction efforts with the locals--though the aging knight was in for a wild ride indeed. The two Jedi made their way around the dusty bend, when the sight of a droid and an odd looking fellow. He watched as the two chased after him, calling out to him.

What an interesting little creature..I've never seen his kind before. He thought to himself as he glanced towards the clumps of black and white fur that surrounded the little Ewok. I sense..the force...inside of him, strange...though the galaxy works in surprising ways. His eyes would shift towards the droid and back to the Ewok as he watched them bicker--a smile on his face at all times.

"Master..what is this guy?" The young boy asked as he glanced up towards Vorro.

"Now..Now," the knight responded in a gentle voice as his hand planted firmly on the boy's shoulder. "That is not a way to introduce ourselves." He would respond with a slight twitch, as he turned back towards the newcomers. "I am Jedi Knight Vorro Rayden, and this is my student..Jerrix." He would respond with a weak smile.

"I'm afraid I have never heard of these berries.." He would pause as he looked out towards the sea of dying crops, "I don't think they would have much of a chance here..with this drought..That's why we're here.." A glimmer in the sky caught his attention for the briefest moment.

Glancing up towards the sky, he watched as what appeared to be some sort of Pod come hurling towards the middle of the crop field. Within seconds the pod escaped their view and was lost within the tall sea of crops. A thunderous boom came crackling out from the center of the field, followed by a small trail of smoke.

Glancing towards the Droid and the Ewok, "Well..I'm afraid I must investigate this, you're free to join us." His eyes would shift towards the youngling, "Stick close to me and hold onto the back of tunic. I don't need you getting lost out here."

The Ewok was disheartened to hear that he'd never any heard of Camby berries, he was starting to think he'd have to go back home to get some, that'd be interesting, hey Chakaa where you been? Oh just flying around the stars, Then he'd get called a liar, he'd just have to keep looking.
He listens to the man's talk of drought, interesting so it's not always this dry he thinks to himself as they are interrupted by a crashing pod, as the man sets of Chakaa decides he's not doing nothing so decides to tag along, curious about the pod and what could be inside. Closing the distance with strange bouncing run due to his small legs and short stature. Begins chating in basic, letting his ruse slip to communicate faster.
"So, how do you fix a drought anyways? What do you think is inside? I hope it's valuable, Chakaa is going to be rich someday, everyone will know of me, and want to be my friend, and I'll be king of all Ewoks!" the Ewok flashes a grin as he finishes, and his Droid gives a scoff, oh yes Chakaa just knew it.

Jazen's fingers hit a few more buttons before his usable left hand took a grip of a rather large handle and began pulling on it. It was everything he mustered to try and get the lever to move, but he was beginning to think he needed two hands. It was during the struggle of getting his right hand on the handle that he heard the first sound of a voice.

That was quick..

While positioning his feet he lost balance and the handle shifted inward before easily sliding open from its previous 'locked' position. The audible yell Jazen let out as it moved was quickly drowned out as the seal for the door burst open and shot the rest of it outward. This was the first time he'd ever used or even seen an escape pod in use, but if it was anything like the holovids some sort of gas would shoot out now.

His internal clock got up to seven seconds when he finally realized nothing was coming, or if it was that part was damaged in the crash. Moving to the doorway he leaned his injured arm against the frame before shifting his weight and momentum at the opening to carry himself over and out. His feet met nothing and he fell to his knees before his left hand could catch his weight any further. With a slow rise to his feet the ache and pain of his right side became more apparent; there was more damage than just to his arm. His feet would shuffle backwards away from where he had heard the voices as he prepared to move.

The Jedi pushed his way through the thick stocks of the crops, listening as the leaves rustled among each other. It appeared that their friends had decided to join them, with the little bear like creature deciding to speak up in Basic. So the little guy can speak our language..Interesting, it appears the force continues to show me how much I really don't know about this galaxy.

Keeping his eyes positioned forward he would respond with mostly a loud grunt, "Well..You just have faith..the force will guide us to the answer. We just have to make sure the others hold on." He would respond with a smile, "As for riches...I'm not so sure my little friend.."

His eyes would perk up at the mention of Chakaa and Ewoks, "Chakaa huh? What exactly is an Ewok?" Though they really didn't have much time to ponder such a question. He could smell the embers of burning soil and crops--they were close to the pod. Pushing forward only a few more feet, they would find themselves within a small opening accompanied by a large divot full of durasteel and smoke--it was their pod.

"Master, look at this large open path!" The youngling called out as the boy diverted from the group and onto what appeared to be the destructive trail that the pod had taken.

"Jerrix...Don't go running off," he would respond in a stern voice before glancing towards the pod, not realizing for a few moments that there was a man shifting away from the scene. With a bit of an eye raise, the Jedi would smile as he held up his hands as a sign of peace, "Woah...it's alright, I'm not going to hurt you." He would pause as he inched a bit closer--his lightsaber was clearly clipped to his waist. "Is everything alright? Are you hurt? What happened?" His voice was gentle and kind.

While there was no Treasures at least that he could see, he wasn't surprised the man didn't know what an Ewok was, they were primitive after all, given a glance he'd tell him, but the man who from the looks came from the pod injured.
"Are you sure he speaks our language? Rust-butt could translate"
The Ewok asks Vorrowith a chuckle, Chakaa liked a good joke. His hands on hips looking in the direction of the new human, his Droid just pushing through the brush, tripping into the scene, the ewok waits to see what happens, hands away from the weapon on his back.

His ears were still ringing from the impact, although he didn't realize the soft ping in his ears were there until the stranger talked. His eyes watched as the darker man's lips moved, but whatever it was he mouthed never hit Jazen's own eardrum. His own natural reaction at this point was to reach for the blaster on his right thigh, but even as he tried the weight of his arm stopped him from doing anything too hazardous. Instead his left wrist rotated and his hand awkwardly took hold of the hilt on his vibrosword. With a fatigued pull the weapon was drawn and pointed out in defense at the group that had formed in front of him.

He looked from left to right, first seeing the eldest of the group. The man's lips were still moving, but for the life of him Jazen couldn't read what they were saying. The next was a younger boy, whomever he was he seemed to constantly check in with the older man. It was the boy that caused Jazen's grip on his weapon to loosen somewhat, he had yet to encounter an evil that traveled with child. The next thing he saw was the droid and he easily passed over this to the final being, a miniature bear. Looking from it back to the boy he felt they were in some way connected.

"STAY BACK!"

His voice was louder than even he intended it to be in thanks to his partial deafness. The weapon in his hand continued to point at each of them as he continued shuffling backwards. The right side of his face had become a waterfall of crimson as a cut on his head had opened somewhere within his hairline. The ringing began to subside and he could at long last hear the sounds of the crashed pod, crackling debris, and various sounds of the elements filling the air. His eyes continued to scan over the each of them, the weight of the blade in his left hand getting heavier with each passing second and before he knew it the tip no longer pointed at an any one of them, but instead poked at the soil laden ground.

"-I.. -I WILL NO-..."

As his voice bellowed out the weight of his own body combined with the armor he still wore brought him to his knees. His left hand continued to grip the hilt of the blade as if he were an old man using it as a walking stick. It was his right side that drooped heavily while the undamaged left side somehow stood tall and proud. His eyes would fall shut and instead of fighting any longer he went limp and Jazen Ultor's 6ft3in frame hit the dirt with a thud.

Vorro, through his hands back to stop the Ewok and the others from going any further, his eyes focused in on the bruised and battered man with the blade pointed in their direction. Kneeling down in a passive stance he would watch the the man's battered face closely, it was clear the man was facing severe physical trauma and possibly a concussion. The man's voice was loud, signaling possible deafness. To make matters worse the man's face was slowly engulfed in crimson from an open wound--he was no threat to the Jedi and his companions.

"Look..we're not going..." Thud, was the sound of the man's armor crashing into the soil of the farm. It seemed that he had fallen into shock, and could possibly be facing death. Vorro shot forward towards the man, placing his soothing hands upon the man's body, feeling around for any possible lacerations or a broken spine. "I need to heal him," he responded in a stern tone towards the group, "But..I can't do it here, it's not safe." He would pause as he pointed towards his student, "Come pick up his weapon and carry it." Turning towards the Ewok and his droid, "I would suggest that you both come with me, before Cragox's men find this pod..surely they'll be coming to investigate."

He would have to explain the circumstances later, but for now the main concern was this man. Glancing down towards the armored figure he would whisper slightly, "This may hurt." Wrapping his hands under the man's shoulder and a slight bend of his knees, the aging Jedi would pull the man over his back, causing his boots to sink deep into the soil--he was getting too old for this.

"Come on...let's go."

Chakaa wanted to get a closer look at the pod, but was stopped by Varro's arm as the man began shouting like someone had slapped his hears, and he seemed to have been shocked by the Ewok's appearance and started waving a gun around, Chakaa would have gone for his own Blaster rifle, but he wasn't that stupid realizing it could blow this up... And not in a fun way, luckily the stranger soon collapsed with thump.
As Vorro quickly went to the injured man's side he suggested he follow him his tone serious enough that he nods and falls in step, he didn't know who this Cragox was and if he was an enemy but erring on the side of caution Chakaa pulls his D7 blaster carbine from his back and sets out hopefully they had some medicines at his home, his Droid following close behind as they head to safety.
"I set out to find some Camby berries and instead, find a man who fell from the sky, this is great!"

Jazen's eyes were beyond heavy, as he was lifted into the air they didn't so much as bat. Instead they stayed locked shut as his mind was drifting in and out of a dream that wasn't quite like anything he'd found himself in before. With every step the Jedi took Jazen found his false reality shaking. The words any of them spoke rang like a repeater blaster in a narrow hall. His legs moved in the dream but hung heavy over Vorro.

Each step felt heavier than the last as his eyes cast out in the rumbling facade searching for something. They were looking for anything that made sense really, but the combination of 'clouds' and inability to focus anything kept the illusion as just that. It was a deep breath that brought the rumbling to a pause and he was able to 'see' everything in a hue of bright blue.. As if his body and mind were finally at peace within itself and in the distance was where that glow was coming from.

Meanwhile the pod's life transponder let out an inaudible cry to anything or anyone that could listen for it. The ship Jazen had bailed from would no doubt be wondering why a pod suddenly burst from its holding place. The ship was no doubt connected to Serenno which meant perhaps the Empire was still connected to it, but only Jazen could know that...
