DESCRIPTION​

The Neutron Star-class bulk cruiser is a capital ship originally manufactured by Rendili StarDrive in the decades prior to the Clone Wars. The type was primarily sold to local system and sector defense forces during the Republic era, and was used by well-off mercenaries in later years. Originally, the type was a "pure" capital ship, with an extensive turbolaser armament and no ability to carry starfighters, however after the Clone Wars many of these craft fell into the hands of the Rebel Alliance, who modified them as medium carriers, sacrificing their armament and a large proportion of the cargo space to install internal hangar bays. In the present day, most Neutron Stars that survive represent this later configuration.

The Neutron Star is 600 meters in length, crewed by 2,000 beings and able to carry 200 passengers, plus up to 2,000 standard tons of cargo. Armament consists of 8 single heavy turbolaser turrets, 10 dual heavy laser turrets, 10 quad medium laser turrets and 2 tractor beam emitters. The internal hangar bay can accommodate 24 starfighters or other small craft, plus 4 shuttles or other support ships. The ship is fitted with a class 3 hyperdrive, and is capable of 60 MGLT in realspace.

In the present day, Neutron Star-class bulk cruisers, like almost all capital ships, are fairly rare, their numbers having been attrited by decades of service and losses incurred during 3 major Galactic wars. The type can still be found in service to various system and sector governments, as well as to well-off mercenaries and pirates.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. Neutron Star-class bulk cruisers are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.
