"YOU STAY SAFE NOW! YA HEAR ME BOY? DON'T GO GETTIN' YERSELF INTO TROUBLE!" Ma's shouts of love rang out after Khalid even after her son had disappeared into his ship. Pa's goodbye to his son had been much more- well, Pa. A pat on the back and a reminder to put a ring on it before he put a baby in it. "Ma's heart is gettin' older now, so don't go testin' it."
When the ship took off the two turned around and went back inside, none the wiser that their youngest daughter had slipped past all three of them.
Or so everyone thought.
Almost as quickly as she'd slammed her door shut, the tiefilng girl immediately began shoving things into her backpack. A change of clothes. Her Wan-Shen ("Never go without it!" - Ma). Her phone, of course, and her favorite pair of sunglasses couldn't be forgotten either. Laila kicked off her house slippers and quickly tied her boots on. Her convor, Minty, could sense her urgency and began to excitedly hoot and chirp as if he would be joining her.
"Minty! Shhh!" she hushed, hurrying over to his cage and quickly dropping a fistful of feed into his bowl. She squinted at his water - it was fine - then gave the mint-green bird a scratch on the forehead. "I'll be back, I promise," she whispered to him before she made a beeline for her balcony. She grabbed her escape rope, then slowly rappeled down to the ground below. 'Operation Stowaway... BEGIN!'
The hardest part of getting onto her big brother's ship was just getting past the guards without being seen by them. She knew their rotations pretty well by now, so as soon as she saw an opportunity... 'Run run run!'
Laila scurried up the ship's waiting ramp, drifting around the corner and into the vessel. She stopped to catch her breath, and then to quickly look for the best place to hide. The vents were too dusty, but she found a little corner in the storage room that was perfectly her-sized. Two boxes were the perfect width apart, and a third one covered the gap on top. The tiefling girl squeezed in, careful to be mindful of her horns. Giddy, she pulled her legs up to her chest to wait for her brother, intent on surprising him as soon as the ship left the atmosphere. But he was taking longer than she expected, and before long... she fell asleep.
She was up pretty late last night.

"Aw, what do you mean you have to leave? You just GOT HERE!" Laila, upon hearing that her brother would be leaving that day, was not happy about it. She never got to see him ever! How was it fair that he could just up and leave without even considering her feelings? "LIIIIIIID! Pleeeeeeeease?" Unfortunately, Laila's pleas did little to persuade someone who had somewhere else to be. So, in a huff, Laila had retreated to her room.Or so everyone thought.
