Hey, everybody. Name's Isthaail. It's been... golly, about four and a half years since I last seriously did a roleplay. My friend and I have recently been playing SWTOR together, and it made me hungry for a good trip down Star Wars fanfic lane. I'm not very well-versed in the lore or the technology, and so I decided to come to a roleplay site. I don't expect you guys to pander to me, but it'll be nice to at least know which questions to google. For example, the long list of banned races...

After reading through the timeline (which, I must say, is incredibly impressive in both scope and detail), I think I'm beginning to see the seeds of a character begin to form in my mind, along with a general arc he would follow. Before I get started, though, I have a few questions, if somebody doesn't mind answering. My friend will probably join up soon, and most of our initial arc will be together, but I'd like to know some things so we can plan how we branch out in advance.

Thanks for reading, I look forward to my time with you guys.

Another SWTOR player?! I thought I was all alone! Level 53 Sith Juggernaut... Then I dropped the game.

I joined up two days ago! It's a great pleasure to meet you! The people here have been very friendly and tolerant so far, really nice community!

Lvl 60 Sentinel here, but MMOs are right now on the bottom of the list to do.

I saw your request to ak questions, but nothing to answer yet. Shoot, buddy and you most probably will get answers.

(P.s. This is usually covering most of the basics: http://www.thestarwarsrp.com/forum/index.php?threads/welcome-new-members.15887/ and WIP-Characters find a home in the Workshop, to cover the basics in advance)

Thanks for the replies. Here are my questions:

Is there a thread I can find that tells me the value of different technologies in credits?

I know that as of the Clone Wars, the Hutts had power as far-reaching as Coruscant. Is this still the case in this timeline? I'm unfamiliar with the expanded universe, so perhaps things changed since Clone Wars. If so, is there any word on the dominant Mafia group in Coruscant?

My main character will start off with rather minimal skills/equipment. However, for his arc, I'd like to create multiple characters of varying capacities. I would generally consider them to be NPC's, but they will be of my own creation unless somebody would rather fill the role with their own characters. What are the limits on the NPC's I can create? At what point would they become PC's that I would need to create a profile for?

Also, the rules say that my characters would start at the bottom of whatever faction they join, unless significant reason is given to have it be otherwise? What would count as a good reason?

Also, I saw multiple forms of "training" in the training board, but it also says that in order to use a lightsaber, I must be trained by a Jedi or force user. So, does that mean the person has to be a Jedi Knight Equivalent? Or can I simply learn by training with another Padawan?

If I'm being too nitpicky about all this, please tell me. I just don't want to step on anyone's toes when I get going. I think it should be plenty of fun.

Welcome!

To be frank, we don't regulate credits and cost of goods and what not. That said, this doesn't mean you can collect millions of assets out of the thin air! Just be reasonable about it. Same with the lightsaber bit- we don't actively police it. That said, your PC can't master certain saber skills wildly nilly. You'll have to RP a training thread or go on a Faction mission to prove competency in whatever skill you're aiming for your dude or dudeette.

As for ranks, take it up with the respective FL- should you feel the need to begging at a higher rank.

You don't need to google the banned species/planets and whatnot. We've got a sticky on the story board. On my phone so copy pasta is a pain in the place the sun doesn't shine.

Let me know if you need anything else- forum related mind you!

Cheers!

Regarding your question about the hutts: we're right now in a different timeline, and this post covers it pretty well, I think:

The basic lore of this site started at about 1,000 years after the last movie. From there a lot of things have happened, mainly that the Sith are taking everything over and the New Jedi Order is scattered but present, as is the Rebellion. This Link is the main storyline thus far.

However, it has been said that sometime in December or January the admin of the site are going to completely overhaul the entire storyline and start it all over with brand new characters. Their reason for this is to make everything canon, that is based on what LucasArts deems to be true about the Star Wars timelines and lore. This Link will take you to a thread where this reset of the timeline is being discussed.

It's all a little confusing at first, but after a little reading it all makes sense!

Regarding NPC:

If you want your NPC to be any good and useable, placing at least a small profile of them into your workshop for future reference and continued consistency would be not a bad Idea.

About starting as a higher Rank in a faction:

As someone who owns a Jedi Padawan, Jedi Knight and a Jedi Paladi.. Erm Jedi Master let me tell you the following:

Do not aim for a promotion just for the sake of having a higher rank. You rob yourself of all the ESSENTIAL things necessary!

I talk first experiences with the Force, training and bonding with other padawans (that includes friendship and romantic relations) first missions, meeting Knights and Masters, learning nifty tricks, and most of all: Your personal bond with your char!

Ask @Benvenu7 about his struggles to become Knight and the pride he as person and char felt when it finally was time for the promotion.

Finally, the Lightsaber-training.
You can't use one without being Force sensitive. You can be trained in the bare basics of one(!) sword form by any Jedi, but to improve, you need to train with a padawan or higher, if you are knight, you need to be trained by a master. Sith start with Shii-Cho (possibly written wrong) and a sword form of your choice.

Hope that helps.

@isthaail13 i did have a long process of getting my character promoted but it was well worth it. But more importantly coruscant has been wrecked for lack of a better word. The surface is full of dark side force storms and there is no one left living in the planet.

So sadly no mafia there, the Hutts are the most powerful criminal group of this timeline. An if you need help with anything just ask I have a few characters I could use to help out.

Thanks for all the replies! I appreciate it!

I guess my first question, then, is if anybody can direct me to a planet with a large enough city to have a mafia-like underworld, but that is generally controlled by Sith? I intend to have my character be a street urchin of sorts who steals a lightsaber from a Sith (an incredibly stupid and dangerous task, I am sure). So, if there's a planet where you just have some Sith chilling in Sith fashion, that'd be perfect. I don't think the lightsaber theft will be immediate- I plan to establish some story and character arcs first- but since that is my goal in mind, I need to have a few things laid out ahead of time.

As it stands, I don't intend to skip my character's Jedi training. I intentionally chose to make a low-ranking character so that I can gradually ease myself into the universe. However, if some of my NPC's end up becoming PC's, it would be strange for them to start as a wimp in their respective group when just previously they were trashing my character.

Shortly before I begin a thread that could include characters other than my main, I'll probably ask if anybody wants to fill the roles. However, if nobody is available to fill those roles, I'll probably write an NPC profile for those characters. I don't want to step on anybody's toes, but I want for my character to follow a certain arc path.

Also, and I know this seems strange, but if I can't find somebody to train my character as a Jedi, am I allowed to make an NPC to do so? Or must it be a PC?

Once again, thanks for the feedback. I expect I'll have a character in the works pretty soon. I look forward to roleplaying with everybody.

Well... There's an academy on Korriban and Yavin, but I don't really think that's what you're looking for. I suppose you've got Nar Shaddaa, if that still exists. Other Hutt controlled planets are probably also a good bet.

I know that in playing SWTOR, Dromund Kaas had a large-ish city on it. Is this still the case?
