Hi I'm Pyro and I've been looking for a star wars roleplay site and...well this one looked like the best choice. I have some experience roleplaying but not a huge amount so excuse my newbie...ness. I'll be honest some of the things in place are a bit intimidating to me, such as the sith/jedi training system.
Anyway I have a two questions about this place , one which involves the banned (sith) powers (sort of..):
1. Are there any big things I should avoid when making a character? I like to try and avoid generic Mary Sue territory as much as possible ( but I think my characters get pretty close to that standard).
2. So I currently have a character in the works that utilizes disease as a weapon ( you know, airborne versions in canisters, syringes, ect) and I was wondering , is it considered necromancy/Rhackghoul plague if one disease/weapon/infection causes them to become temporarily rabid/feral/incredibly aggressive? (usually twenty minutes-one hour in character) I ask because I think that's veering awkwardly close to Rhackghoul territory. Also no, lifeforms affected by it can't spread it , only the gas released could.
Thanks in advanced for answering some of my possibly pointless questions :)

Welcome to the site!

To answer your questions:

1] I would say that if you are already familiar with what a Mary Sue character is, then you already know some of what to avoid in character creation. That said, you might find this guide and this guide useful.

2] I would say that would indeed fall under the category of being a Rakghoul type disease, though not necromancy as that deals with the dead. Unless your disease brings people back to life (aka zombies), then that would fall under both categories.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to send me a PM or just ask someone for help.

Enjoy your stay.

Thanks for the answers , hmm I may need to rework my character slightly. Actually, would normal non-zombifying diseases/gases be usable? Such as hallucinogenics? I'd assume so but I think it's best to check. (As you can see I'm pretty new to this)

Welcome! As far as disease being used as a weapon I am not sure if that would really work here tbh. While they are outdated, if you haven't already, I would read through the site rules on RPing. They will tell you what you need to know about how pvp works here. While this is freeform writing and your idea is definitely an interesting one it just may not be practical/useable here. For something like that you would probably have to get an admin's approval. (I am not really sure how the "bio weapons" would be used by your explanation)

Right, I see your logic. Futuristic worlds with advanced technology probably have a lot of ways around disease and infections. Plus now I think about it it would be a pain to sort out in battles after the initial release of the gas/virus.
*due to the direction of the wind the gas blows back in [characters] face*
yeah I think ill put it in the characters interests or something.

Honestly its not so much the technology but with our pvp rules (like you said) there is no way to determine who has been infected and all. Plus someone has a right to counter your "attack." However that's not to say you couldn't see if anybody was interested in RPing out a scenario where their character(s) were infected by yours and then had to find a cure. or something That kind of thing is usually allowed. So is doing threads were your character may work with others or do things to create new diseases etc. (of course it would need to be well done) So putting it in as your characters interest/skills or abilities is fine.

Sounds like a few potentially interesting role plays could be made from this, anyway ill probably list it as an ability ( proficient at designing pathogens but can be restrictive due to costs, something like that)
Thanks for helping me sort that out, now I need to start actually sorting out my character :P

In PvP I say that it's best to avoid that sort of biotoxin warfare, as it could get messy--with those that don't have the proper equipment claiming that it's a trump card. If you're writing a standard story though, PvE--just telling a story I would think that it's fine as long as it's not on another player, but I'd check with an adimin. Possibly one of them could help you. @Padmé ?

Glad I could help. Btw we have a new timeline coming when everything will start over. But you will be able to carry over characters minus a bit of reworking for the new TL. When the new TL happens Czerka may have a use for your characters particular skills.

Yeah I saw about the new timeline, any confirmed release date for that?
Also I'm sure I could do business with Czerka. If they're willing to do business with a Sith of course.

Not yet. The rumors were originally having it starting by the end of this month. But from experience. If I had to guess probably mid February at the earliest. Could be totally wrong though.

In that case, will I be able to do some role play in this time line and copy him over to the new one? Or will I have to make a new character if I do that ( even if its basically the same).

Yes you can RP him in this one if you want and then move him into the new one. A number of people are doing that. Especially new members.
