LOCATION: Port, Mos Espa, Tatooine
GOAL: Trade Sojourn Shuttle for Wayfarer Medium Transport
The Sojourn Shuttle began its descent into Tatooines atmosphere, the kinetic energy causing the hull to heat up immensely. From the outside it looked as if its durasteel plating was bright white as temperatures heated its shell. The Jedi Knight piloted the ship while the R3 astromech droid calculated landing coordinates and trajectories. Rennek switched the comm to local channels, specifically the port 'authorities' on Mos Espa "This is Sojourn-31 requesting permission to dock" his transmission was almost instantly replied, confirming his inquiry. Unlike other ports in the Galaxy, Mos Espa ran on a discreet understanding and did not require registration codes. This 'service' came at an extra cost usually amounting in credits despite the fact his paperwork was legitimate. He didn't complain though and after a few decades of patrolling the Arkanis sector he'd grown accustomed to the desert Capitals silent agreements.
The Shuttle landed in bay 12-A, the boarding ramp dropping to the duracrete floor as vents expelled excess pressure from its hoses, creating a somewhat steamed atmosphere in the enclosed dock. The Watchman unfastened his harness and secured his armor and helmet, a ritual he'd incorporated every time he landed on the lawless Planet. Tatooine had a interstellar reputation of being one of the most dangerous places in the Galaxy, yet despite its alignment it attracted individuals from all walks of life. He walked out of the cockpit and made his way to the back of the ship where Dasi had made temporary residence in the escape pod, her handful of possessions lining the small vessel with a makeshift mattress strewn across the seats. It looked far from comfortable but he commemorated her patience as they traveled the sector over the last month. In that time he'd also been contacted by the Jedi Temple on Ajan Kloss with a request that both surprised and annoyed him. He'd been instructed (almost ordered) to return to the Temple and assist in tutoring the steady rise of Padawans that were flocking to the Order. Consequently this meant he'd have to permanently reside within its walls, leaving his life and duty as a Watchman behind. As per his running record with the Councils request he denied, stating his duties within the Arkanis sector were more important to the Jedi than training new recruits like some faculty member. His regular disagreement was one of the contributing factors he'd not been promoted to Master and his role as a Watchman was the reason why he'd failed to take an apprentice under his wing. It wasn't because he was incapable of teaching, simply the Arkanis sector was riddled with danger and he could not guarantee the safety of a Padawan.
His tune changed as he got older and slower, his natural resilience being replaced with armor plating. Rennek also needed to future proof his role in the case of his untimely death, and the best was practical learning. So the Jedi Knight made a compromise. Much like his apprenticeship, he would take more than one Padawan as his student IF the Council allowed him to continue his Watch. As expected they were reluctant, but with the ratio of learners outweighing teachers they had little choice but to accept. They were also aware that his methods as a Jedi were questionable, however, there was little doubt on his loyalty to the Order, or his effectiveness at his position. And so, in the space of a month he'd acquired two Padawans, causing him to feel foolish as he'd advised Dasi that their arrangement was informal. The look on her face when he told her she was now officially his apprentice said it all. But Rennek couldn't falter the decision. She had come a long way in a short space of time and although he'd never admit it, she'd grown on him. He almost forgot what it was like to have company outside of droids and scum. Jaered was a different story, and the Jedi Knight knew little of him or his background outside the information given to him by the Order. All he knew was he originated from Naboo, and they'd had little time to converse on the travel to Tatooine.
Rennek threw a pair of light cloth wraps and ponchos towards Dasi and Jaered while he slipped his armor and helmet on, his voice muffled by the inactive auditory scrambler "Put these on. If you don't already know, Tatooines binary stars reek havoc on your skin and can reach high temperatures by noon. Also, conceal your lightsabers. Folk around here belong to the Cartels and they'd sell us out for a round of ale at the cantina." He made his way down the ramp after everyone was ready, casually making his way towards port officer who processed payments and saw to the upkeep of all landed vessels. Rennek slid enough credits to cover the expense, plus an added extra. He spoke to the officer in Huttesse, his Correlian accent lost in the dialect "Fill it tonka um get do droida tah run do diagnostic. Send je doe information on this frequency"
The Watchman exited the large plated gates and into the heart of the bustling desert metropolis, Mos Espa "We're going to see a local trader who may have a ship for us. As ideal as the Sojourn is, its far too small to accommodate our needs."
