Keep in mind that the Old Republic was founded about 25,000 years before the movies. That still holds true even in canon per Obi-Wan saying the Jedi guarded the peace in the Old Republic "for over a thousand generations."

Is there gonna be an info drop before hand for the new rules on character and tech write ups?

The new information is always made public before the timeline changes. At the moment the admins are likely still in the brainstorming phase. For now, we wait and demand the hype train to push ever onward.

We should have lightsabers that are powered by giant backpacks and can only be a single blade? Like make it very silly and dangerous but still slightly awesome!

Hell yes! Time to start brainstorming some dudes!

I'm guessing that this TL will end with a battle that ultimately results in the Dawn of the Republic?

Well, on one hand, I am hyped, on another, I wanted to create a cyborg character, so I dunno how it will go, will cybernetics be much less advanced?

More information on tech will be forthcoming.

Will our current characters, those that are living be archived and available should the TL once again jump back to near where it is now? I ask for those of us who haven't been engaged with the main plots as much yet, and in our own smaller stories that may have eventually lead to bigger things. While I'm always looking forward to new stories, some of us were hoping to garner enough steam to become an Indie faction eventually.

Or are we now never again going to see our beloved characters again? Just curious. :)

Brah, I've only been here for a little over two months and I've gotten a buttload of threads done. I have so many plots going I've lost track... lol

Maybe I'm just a fast poster but I feel like three months is quite a lot of time to play with your character.

That may be true but a lot of people have real life obligations like work or other issues that don't always lend themselves to being able to spend time posting here. For example, I just had to deal with the worst Hurricane in recorded history so some things do get in the way.

@StarWriter All current characters go to the archives permanently once the new Timeline hits. Let's follow the teachings of Jedi Master Gun Di and make the end memorable.

We won't be returning to this timeline again. Once it ends, there's really nothing that happens of note in the Star Wars story until Episode I. For example, once this timeline is over, the Rule of Two is in place and there's no way to do a timeline with a dark side faction. It'd be trade disputes and the like, lol.

So yeah, current characters will be archived. But everyone has three months to tell a great story with their characters, and bring those stories to a close!

So just to get a general feel for the era we'll be playing in this is basically around the time of the Great Hyperspace War, right? If not the war itself?

Don't BM trade disputes.
That's some quality RP opportunity right there.

That's how Legends depicted it. We'll be doing our own thing. So I wouldn't lean into Legends as an idea for the feel of the era.

I think that the transition of war into peace, the Jedi becoming essentially an extended police force, the layers of organised and devious crime syndicates on the rise as well as political jostling as a galaxy re-assembles into a peaceful veneer over crashing waves would be fun to play in. Though there's very little canon info about the era of the new republic leading up to episode I outside of extended character backstories, that I've been able to read.

I'd imagine it as playing out as more of a space crime procedural setting in built up places and space western in the less. A world of shadowy games and betrayals, secret wars and planetary wars rather than big galactic fires, many layers of grey. You'd lose the evil aspects of the force as a major faction but with a major Sith faction anything not cackling maniacally with a red blade gets painted tamer by comparison. I think it'd be nice to see more of the kind of evil where the bad guys don't have a colour scheme. It would have been nice to play more interesting droid or cyborg characters (not that many droid characters get much respect anyway).

I'm sorry if this comes off as a whingeing. I am super grateful for this site and all the people who work hard to make it possible. I am looking forward to coming up with a new character(s) for the next timeline but I'm sad to see my old ones go. I'm a little irked that we're going from one force war to another, but I know that the magic religious energy that binds the galaxy is a heady pull that few can ignore ;) .

While I agree that what you're describing is very interesting, what we've found over the years is that when we try timelines or things that don't involve the Jedi or the Sith, they don't really attract interest. Or if there's some sort of darker presence that isn't Sith, that players ultimately morph them into pseudo-Sith. Because Star Wars at the end of the day is a story about the dark side vs the light, so that aspect still needs to be there. But we're going to be doing new things in this next timeline that we've never done before, so we're excited for that.

I agree with Brandon here.

Whilst personally I much prefer grey (or green?) Shades of RP - There's no doubt the main player base prefer red v blue sabers.

That being said, the story always leaves vast swathes of space unoccupied and rife for criminal activities.
