New Timeline Question

So I've decided I'm gonna make a similar character to the one I have now. I'll change his history and tweak some other things but I want to keep a lot of things the same. I just started last week, and if I would've read about the new timeline before making a character I would've just waited until the change happened to create his profile (I may have gotten a TAD bit excited and overzealous once I discovered this site). So really my only question is:

Can I use the same name if I alter his backstory? I've been trying to come up with a new name I like but honestly I'm at a loss.

Can I keep my character?
No, unfortunately not. This is a completely different era and continuity from our current timeline, so there is no way for your character to be part of this timeline. If you want to make a carbon copy of your current character then you can do so, but it can't be the same exact character. We also recommend trying something new, rather than making a carbon copy.

I think it supports what Outlander says, and since you just started, I think that recommendation at the end applies less.
