Nicolae Locke was a Force-sensitive human male from Serenno, the son of a lesser noble from House Locke, and a member of the Sith Order who held the rank of Sith Marauder. An ambitious Sith magician and alchemist, Nicolae was driven to escape the shadow of his father's failures and into the arms of the Sith, where he felt some kinship among other Force-users. This ambition warped into a singular desire to protect all Force-users from those who would seek to harm them.

Biography

Nicolae Lock was the son of Matthias Locke, a lesser noble from House Locke on Serenno. During the Clone Wars, the Lockes were a wealthy, respected, and powerful House, buoyed by their support of Count Dooku. After the war, the Galactic Empire severely punished those with ties to the Count and Serenno's new Imperial governor stripped the House of much of its wealth and influence. Matthias Locke attempted to rebuild what his ancestors had destroyed, but he possessed none of the business savvy of his forebears. As a result, Nicolae grew up in the family decrepit manor, dreaming of another life entirely. Nicolae discovered on his own, when he was in his mid-teens, that he possessed the supernatural power of the Force. He hid this discovery from his father, and instead developed a voracious appetite for Sith lore and history, believing that the Sith religion held the keys to his freedom and the fulfillment of his ambition.

Using what wealth from his family he could muster, Nicolae sought out tomes on Sith history and magic sold on the black market. In the distant past, Serenno had belonged to the Sith Empire, meaning some of that lore still lingered in the planet's underbelly. The books Nicolae found granted him much knowledge, but were poor teachers—no substitute for a real Sith Master, which all seemed to be extinct after the deaths of Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader. He even considered applying to the Jedi Order, if for no other reason than to learn to control his powers before he left them behind. But when the new Sith Order revealed themselves to the public, Nicolae saw his chance for a true education and left his family behind to escape the shadows of his father's failures.

As a Sith trainee, Nicolae was tested to the very limits of his physical and mental boundaries. The Sith tolerated only the strongest bodies, the most impervious wills, and the sharpest and most cunning of minds. The Sith sorcerers were even more rigid. Nicolae faced death on Exegol, Saleucami, and other backwater worlds; but the most memorable was Mustafar, where he was left on the shores of a molten river without his lightsaber and forbidden to use the Force. His Master permitted him only to use his resourcefulness to escape a fiery, agonizing death. Nicolae had never faced such harsh conditions before, but was able to fight his way through mining droids and Mustafarians sent by his Master until he reached the ruins of Darth Vader's castle. There, steeped in the darkness of the past, his Master told him about the truth of being Force-sensitive in the galaxy. Hunted by Rangers, turned upon by the politicians looking to blame someone for their own mishandling of galactic events, even battled by their own: the misguided Jedi Order. It was there, on the volcanic sands of Mustafar, that Nicolae's ambition was born: to protect all Force users—even the Jedi—from those who could not understand their powers.

Personality and traits

Nicolae Locke was a tall, fair-skinned, rugged-faced human, with a stony and stoic disposition. He had short, thick black hair, a well-grown black beard, and dark, beady black eyes. He wore clothing that was a mixture of the traditional garb of the nobles on his homeworld and the black robing of his Order. The result was a black double-breasted coat with a black robe draped over the top. He wore knee-high military boots and black trousers to match

Nicolae was perhaps not like other Sith. He was slow to anger, preferring instead to wear a friendly face, though he could at times be stone-faced and stoic. Though highly ambitious, Nicolae was strategic and above all patient, willing to wait until the opportune moment to enact his plans—only when he was certain of success. He was a smooth talker, and flirtatious with men and women alike, believing that disarming them with his charm was the best way of getting them to do what he wanted them to do, without having to break their wills as other Sith often liked.

On the rare occasions when he was angered, his rage was silent, building to a peak. He only raised his voice when at his absolute limit, and his yelling was usually an indication that he was about to become very dangerous. Nicolae preferred to keep his anger broiling under the surface, close enough to use as a source of power, but suppressed enough that it would not turn him into a savage like the Sith of old.

Powers and abilities

Nicolae Locke is a Sith sorcerer and a powerful Force user whose primary method of combat is Force techniques and Sith magic. As a result, his stamina is higher than that of an average Sith, allowing him to preform stressful Force techniques quicker and with more precision than an average Sith warrior. His favorite method of attack is to shape the dark side into a blade that can be launched and split through durasteel, skin, and bones alike. He is also well-trained in the more traditional Force abilities, and he believes them a superior method of resolving conflict than bringing out a lightsaber, which is likely to draw more attention.

Nicolae was still trained in the use of a lightsaber and could handle his with average proficiency. Because he preferred the more mystic elements of the Sith religion over its acrobatic and martial side, he primarily used a curved-hilt lightsaber and was trained in Makashi format: the more elegant style of lightsaber combat suited to those who preferred the archaic side of lightsaber duels. He only used his lightsaber in bursts, and only when the situation could not be resolved through the use of the Force, as he preferred not to draw attention to himself or his comrades.

As a Sith, he was a trained pilot who could use the Force to enhance his piloting skills, though he preferred to use transport vessels over the starfighters preferred by most Sith. He had moderate mechanical skills, enough to preform simple repairs on his ship, though anything significant would require a mechanic or a droid. He also was familiar with a myriad of languages prominent in the Outer Rim due to years spent traveling the region with his Master. In normal conversation, however, he stuck to Galactic Basic, which he could speak with and without a Serenno accent.
