Nicolae stood on the balcony outside his chambers in Kaas City, staring idly out at the slate grey sky. Every now and then, lightning would spiderweb across the sky, but at least there was no wind or rain to lash his face. He paid mild attention to the skylanes. Traffic whizzing in and out of the city, one lane to the Citadel, the other to the spaceport some ways outside of town. He was expecting a guest, but his mind was less focused on their arrival and more on what would happen after.

His understanding was that he was to take a student. An acolyte. But this acolyte was not like the spunky recruits plucked from one of the Sith academies, nor was this an apprentice he had necessarily chosen himself. This student was from outside the Sith Order, which meant he needed to be very careful. Others might not be welcome to the idea of him training an outsider; but every Sith needed their contacts outside the Order, and Nicolae had his own way of collecting those.

His musings were put on pause when he spotted a hovercab arcing out of its usual skylane and veering down towards the landing pad outside his chambers. This must be her.. His mind yawned across the distance, stretching the Force like a lazy cat until he could feel the mind within the cab. The power of the Force thrummed there, but he could glean little else. No premonitions, no hidden potential. But that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. Not everyone had some grand destiny.

Nicolae waited for the cab to set down, then he put on his best muted smile and offered a curt nod to the girl who stepped out of it. "Welcome. I believe introductions are in order." @Melancholia

Kaas City, a place absolutely brimming with an energy that was unlike anything she had ever encountered. Her face may have been a mute expression as she looked out the window of the hover-cab but she was nonetheless tantalized with everything her eyes could grab a hold of. She had used her personal network of eyes and ears to find a specific contact that lead to another and another before finally finding Nicolae Locke. A man of a prestigious background that had been lost due to unfortunate circumstances and the tides of fate, so it would seem if such a thing existed. He was perfect really.

This was much as it was an opportunity as it was an exchange.

"Make sure you have my suit nice and pressed when I'm done here Durdge."

Her personal droid bodyguard merely nodded with an affirmation as it looked out the opposite side of the hover-cab, looking out into the distance with nothing else to say. The silence was brief before the shuttle began its decent to the ground. She could spot the man she was going to be under for tutelage at this point and he matched the description perfectly. Her eyes and ears had proven their worth once again and she mused to herself with a little smile before the cab landed with a small little bump.

"Be a good boy and return home. I'll be back soon."

The droid said nothing once more and gave another nod before the doors gave a crisp little tssp and unsealed itself as she stepped out, her acolyte uniform was tightly fastened, gloves tightened and everything in order. The door sealed behind her and left just as quickly as it came.

She stepped evenly to her teacher, offering a small bow of respect before returning up right. Placing one hand behind her back and extended the other for her formal introduction. Her golden hued eyes with black rings upon black rings circled over and over staring clearly at his own.

"Vale. Nothing more and nothing less. Thank you for receiving my offer and accepting it."

She would say more but she didn't feel as if they were out of ear shot of those who could be listening with ill intent. Though she was unfamiliar with the environment of the Sith, she had heard the rumors and mostly the facts that they were a rather viscous bunch that enjoyed always getting a leg up on their rivals and so forth. To her it was petty. Squabbling at the best of times. If all of it was to be true, she truly had no interest in their games but she would entertain what she had to from those outside of this arrangement when it was called for.

She respected Nicolae's choice to take her on as it was risky but she knew it would pay off in spades, so to say. Though he didn't sense it at the time, she had a dream. One that she would accomplish in time with the help of someone like this cooperative Sith. She wouldn't forget this and hoped he wouldn't either as he would have a place just for him in her dream.

"The honor is mine... Vale, was it?" Nicolae asked. "Welcome to Dromund Kaas. My name is Nicolae. Shall we?"

He motioned to the doors to his chambers. They were nothing to gawk at. Sith had to earn wealth, and he was only recently made a Marauder. It would take time to amass enough power to make the place feel more comfortable. Still, at least here they were free from prying eyes and ears.

A droid marched out of a slim hallway carrying a tray of refreshments. Nicolae selected something non-alcoholic and nodded for the droid to attend Vale. While she made her selection, he peered over her. Short human, equally short hair, though fiery in color and in spirit. Her golden eyes almost appeared to light up Nicolae's dank chambers.

"You are brave to come here. Very few outside Sith circles step so willingly into our heart," Nicolae observed. "And yet you do so with a calm face, not a hint of anxiety. I know you must be skeptical. We Sith have a... sordid reputation." He smiled briefly. "So, let us just get down to business. You have asked me for training, and yet, you are not a Sith. Why should I teach you what I know."

He sipped deeply from his drink, careful to keep his expression flat and hidden. It was an old merchant's trick his father had taught him. You couldn't get an advantageous deal by appearing overeager. You had to at least appear not to want it. Only then could you discern how far you could take the bargain. @Melancholia

To Vale the humble lodging was something to be proud of. It designated that you had more important things to be concerned with but she wasn't able to read his mind about how he felt about it himself although she had noticed the Sith did have a preference for living lavishly. She wondered if it had anything to do with their reputation for being vicious and power hungry and it was most likely the latter as the Jedi sought to live in an opposite fashion.

She took a glass of something sparkling as well and tipped her head in a small thank you to the droid which returned the same gesture before departing on its way. She hadn't returned the careful examination as she had already gotten a good look outside but instead turned her attention to the almost bare room, her eyes wandering about just as her feet did the same from place to place. With one hand behind her back, she sipped on her glass, turned slightly out of view as her attention was focused in front of whatever she looked at.

"So it is true then what they say about the Sith. If it takes courage to be here, then there must be something people should fear. I've heard of the Sith actually helping their own citizens. Your people still protect those within its walls, provide prosperity through trade and the like. You have your own laws and order that you instill. Maybe you're all just.. A little misunderstood."

She still hadn't turned to address him as she was still walking about examining the room as she answered his first and foremost question. She finished her drink and put the glass away before she turned to Nicolae, one hand still placed behind her back but now she grabbed hold of her other arm that was placed at her side.

She gave him a warm smile and extended the same expression with her eyes.

"Because I'm going to change the galaxy."

The statement left her lips with glee it seamed and the look remained even after she said it out loud.

She then giggled quietly before she answered again.

"It'll be hard without the things you can teach me. Jedi aren't easy to best without the things you know and if I plan changing the galaxy, I'll need to know how to disarm. If you take a par of pliers to a dog's teeth, you can render him harmless. They just don't know how dangerous they are."

She paused for a moment, taking a finger and toying at the corner of her mouth.

"All that restraint but when they break they're just as dangerous as a Sith could be. But no one expects it truly to happen. The heroes they're looked up to cease to exist and then they're just a threat. And that is a threat to my dream."

She put down her hand before continuing.

"Besides, it wouldn't hurt for you to have a contact in the Syndicate. We don't operate inside the law and that's what makes us special. We can get around the red tape that might otherwise get you in trouble with those your people are at odds with. Unnecessary attention is nothing you want naturally. I'll protect you always."

The final sentence was said with another warm smile and whether or not Nicolae wanted to believe it was entirely up to him.

"You are a very interesting woman, Vale," Nicolae said, sipping again at his drink. He never once lifted his gaze from her. "And I am interested in this change you want to bring to the galaxy. I too seek change."

But perhaps not the kind you seek.

She was right, of course. Broken Jedi did become threats, made themselves into monsters for the public to fear and to hunt. Nicolae wanted to end that. What right did the public have to hunt their evolutionary betters? All Force-users deserved to live lives free off the petty wants and needs of those who could not feel its touch. But in order to see that galaxy come about, he needed time. Perhaps more than one lifetime. And to achieve that kind of power, he would indeed need allies in the Syndicate and elsewhere. But he was not ready to let her in on that secret just yet.

"We do indeed seem to be compatible. We both have knowledge the other needs. I can teach you the arts of deception. I can teach you to use your power. But the training is not for the meek or the faint of heart." He set his glass down on the smooth desk surface and took two paces closer to Vale. They stood mere feet apart now, and he towered over her, looking down into her eyes over the crook of his nose. "You may find me cruel. At times, you may even be tempted to break our arrangement and kill me. I must be certain you have the stomach, that you are worth the risks."

He turned away from her and strolled over to a wide windowpane, which revealed the dank skyline of Kaas City. "Outside the city, there is a place where Sith train. An old temple, haunted by the horrors of millennia past. If you agree, I will take you there for a short test. You will not be harmed. I only wish to assess your abilities. Only then can you become my apprentice. Do you accept?" @Melancholia
