Taris/Near docks

sw-kotor-Taris.jpg

The day had certainly been interesting. First Hask found out that his old friend got shot in the head month ago, not only costing him friendship but a damn good mechanic and painter as well. Then he had to save a young girl from being assaulted and violated by street thugs. In turn this girl wanted to slit his throat, terrified of him and thinking he was the Emperor or someone which was bizarre to say the least.

Thankfully he managed to win her trust and she calmed down to the point where he could get a name and home planet out of her. She was a Nightsister. She didn't look like one at all, but he figured that she most likely got adopted by the witches and raised as one of them. He offered to buy her a meal or give her a lift to another planet, knowing well that Taris was a bad place for a young and confused girl like her to get lost in, but she didn't trust him that much. Not wanting to break this extremely fragile trust he didn't press it, but he did give his whereabouts in case she had a change of heart. It was funny, caring so much for this poor girl without even knowing her, but he felt that leaving her to get torn to shreds on this planet would go against his grain. He couldn't allow it, but in the end it was her choice.

Hours past their meeting Hask sat in a cantina by a booth all on his own. His helmet was staring at him from the other end of the table and in front of him was a burger and chips, complimented by his favourite beverage: Tarisian ale. He ordered a case of the stuff for the Hurricane but he figured another pint wouldn't hurt. He sat up from his meal, looking around as he wiped a drop of sauce off his cheek and licked his finger off. He could sense a familiar presence was close. He hoped that the girl came around.

It had been a bit of a rollercoaster of emotions for the young girl, first she was attacked by a group of thugs and then the next, she was face to face with what she originally thought was the very emperor that almost brought her people to the brink of extinction and was told as a warning to all young nightsisters. Fortunately, it wasn't, but just one of the same race and truth be told, she never actually knew how the emperor had looked. It made everything a bit silly when you thought about it, but at least they parted way on good terms.

Of course, she didn't trust the man enough to actually help her completely with getting off the planet or much else and she went her own way. With that said, she quickly found the planet to be difficult for someone who've never been in a truly big city before, as she got into trouble because she doesn't understand or know the rules and laws.

Multiple times she had to run from the law enforcement for minor stuff and after a couple of hours since her meeting with the one named Hask, she started to reconsider his offer of getting off this stupid planet. She knew where he was parked and how long he would still be in port, but Eithni being a typical teenager, she wouldn't show that she actually needed help from him and that she could take of herself! But she was actually starting to get hungry and the city didn't exactly have a forest where she could make a shelter. Well, not that she knew of.

So, instead of finding Hask and ask if he could get her off the planet, she decided just to sneak onboard without him knowing it, what could possibly go wrong?

It didn't take long for her to find his ship and the hanger bay was easy enough to sneak into, however, the ship was kind of closed off... damnit, she would have to wait for Hask to arrive, before being able to sneak inside.

She was near. He couldn't pinpoint where but she was close. He returned to his meal and after a few minutes he was done, finishing his ale and eating the last chip in his plate. He paid for the meal and left, slipping his helmet on as he walked out the door.

He looked around, checking if she wasn't hanging around the building. Figuring she wasn't he made his way to the hangar of his ship. With each step he could feel her presence growing. She was waiting in the hangar for him. But when he entered the hangar and made for his ship he saw nothing. Though he knew she was close. With a smirk under his helmet he kept walking as if expecting nothing. The ramp opened and he walked in, leaving it open just long enough to give her a chance to sneak in. As he walked he also told his crew to not react if they noticed something was off.

He took his seat in the pilot's chair and quickly got the ship in the air, manoeuvring to get out of the atmosphere. All the while he was focusing on keeping track of where Ethni was hiding.

Still hiding out of view, the young Nightsister waited till Hask disappeared into his ship before she rushed silently across the hanger to the ramp of the ship. Looking up the ramp, she cautiously went up the ramp and peered out around the corner to make sure no one would notice her. A few men had their back to the entrance and just went about their work and just really looking like they would know or have heard her.

Silently she moved barefooted through the cold interior of the ship, past the two men and deeper into the ship, not really knowing where to hide. She went down a corridor and heard some voices come towards her direction and behind her... Thinking quickly and panicked a bit. Making a decision on the spot, she went through a door and listened up the door, hoping they wouldn't enter the room she hid inside. Luckily they just passed the door, greeted each other and just went on their way to do whatever they would do.

Releasing a small breath of relief, Eithni turned around and actually saw what kind of room it was. Only one bet, rather large room... This must be the Hask guy's room, crap. Just to make matters worse, when she turned around to look at the room, she accidentally locked the door, making her need some kind of password to get out. Just great...

Locked inside the room, she might as well find a spot to hide while she would wait for the ship to land and also for someone to unlock the door again.

The ship was out of orbit but Hask didn't jump to hyperspace just yet. Instead he let her fly and handed the ship over to his copilot. After checking the systems he stood up and wandered through the hallways, holding his hand out to figure out where the girl exactly was. She was on the ship, no doubt about that. Some of the crew members noticed a figure sneaking around before disappearing.

He found himself in front of a locked door. His room's door. He really wasn't happy about her being in his room. With all the spare lightsaber parts and other weaponry she could cause a lot of trouble for them. He sighed and hoped for the best as he typed his code in, unclipping a lightsaber just in case she got nervous. He entered the room, not noticing her with his eyes but sensing her presence easily enough. He took his helmet off and pretended to not know anything about what was going on, simply going about his business of putting his helmet down and placing his pistols on his desk.

He wasn't sure where she was hiding. The closet? Under the bed? The vent in the roof or the hidden panel under the floor? There were a number of places to hide on his ship. He wasn't planning on searching through all of them. "Ethni, come out. I know you're here." he said loud enough for her to hear. He hoped that would be enough to draw her out. "I can sense you're in here...I have food and drink for you." he offered. He wasn't sure what it would take for her to come out or what to convince her with. He was just trying his luck.

Everything looked as when he had left his room and nothing was out of the ordinary, it was as if she had disappeared. A voice suddenly appeared behind him, the voice of a young Nightsister, "how did you know I was here?!" Huffed Eithni annoyed sheathing both her vibroblades behind her, by the belt. "Oh... How is that fair" commented Eithni annoyed, crossing her arms and sat down on a chair by one of the walls.

She looked away from Hask, acting very much like a rebellious teenager as she glided a bit further down with her body. After a bit of silent, "what kind of food?" asked the young Nightsister, still focusing on anything but Hask, just to be a bit defiant. At least until she knew what kind of food, it was.

Eithni's hood covered a lot of her face and anyone who wasn't directly in front of her would only see her lower part of the face. However, her stomach started to rumble and she suddenly felt rather hungry, while still trying to act defiantly.

He turned to look at her with her outburst, a smirk on his lips a mile long. She marched off and slumped into a chair with crossed arms like a bratty teenager. She stayed silent for a long time...then came the thought of food. She still didn't look at Hask, but her stomach told him more than enough. "Got a stir-fry that my crew ate for lunch. There's still quite a lot left over...though judging by that stomach of yours I think we'll need more than that." he finished with a chuckle.

He summoned his pistols back to him and holstered them, then he gestured for her to follow. "Don't worry about my crew. They won't bother you at all. They'll leave you alone." he explained as he walked. "Just don't mess with their stuff." he finished, looking at her over his shoulder. Soon enough they were in the kitchen and Hask was filling up a plate with the stir fry and rice, then popped it into the microwave to heat it back up for her. In the meantime he poured some juice for her as he wasn't sure if she could drink alcohol yet. When the food was done he set it down at the table with utensils the stepped back.

He poured himself a glass of beer and sipped on it as he stood against a counter to observe her. "So, Ethni...where to? You took up my offer, so where's your stop?" he asked and took another sip.

"hmpf, I'm not scared, they should watch out for me" commented Eithni as she followed Hask out of his room and through the ship. They passed a couple of Hask's crew members along the way to what Eithni assumed to be the mess hall. A few of the crew members looked after Hask and his little young friend and then looked at each other with a raised eyebrow, before going back to work.

When entering the mess hall, it looked rather basic, some tables with chairs, clean kitchen and kitchen gear. Half of it was foreign to Eithni of course, so naturally, she got curious and wanted to check out the kitchen... after she's eaten. her red ruby eyes followed Hask to the kitchen as she sat down, but decided to look around the area a bit more from her seat. It was a bit weird, eating a place that wasn't in the open, over a fire, but she wasn't picky when it came to food.

Her focus returned to Hask when he started to talk. She just shrugged while shoving food into her mouth, or she removed her hood, showing her platinum hair completely, before shoving her mouth full of food. Eithni was silent for a bit as she chewed her food. "Nowhere, usually I just jump off the ship, when it lands on a planet, wander around there for a bit, sometimes longer, if the planet is interesting..." replied the young Dathomirian girl, "or if I'm not lucky enough with finding a ship to sneak onboard that's leaving the planet" added Eithni and shoved some more food into her mouth.

Hask sipped his drink as she ate and spoke, rather confused by her answer. Nowhere really didn't help. He couldn't just keep a girl like her on board all the way to Tatooine, can he? He stood in thought and after a few seconds he spoke up. "You're a Nightsister, are you not? Why won't you want to go back to Dathomir?" he asked her with a tilt of his head. Was she chased off? Did something happen to her clan? He knew the Nightsisters were extremely territorial and looked out for their own...so why wouldn't she want to return.

He finally let out a sigh and looked at her again. "I'm heading for Tatooine. It's going to be a couple days' journey. I can take you there if you feel like wasting away on a desert planet for a few days. From there I'll be heading off to Nal Hutta. If you feel up for it, you can tag along or you can get off anywhere in between." he explained his plans to the girl. He could offer work, but she didn't know anything about ships...as far as he knew. Other than that he wasn't sure what to do with her. But it probably didn't hurt to ask.

"I can also offer you work. Pay's alright and you get to explore all kinds of planets. I just need to know how much you know about working a starship." he pitched to her. It was a gamble for him in a couple of ways. The crew might not like having her aboard. She's wild and difficult, if she didn't know what she was doing then she could damage the ship...but on the flip side he could teach her. An extra hand didn't hurt at all and if having a sneaky Nightsister on bboard simply meant to tech her how to fly a ship and hit it with a hammer then he was willing to go with this crazy plan.

Eithni looked up from her bowl of food, mouth full of it and met Hask's eyes with her own ruby coloured ones. "Why would I want to go back, when it's not a very long time ago I left?" Asked Eithni a bit confused, not realising Hask most likely didn't know why she actually wasn't back home. "Tatooine? That planet doesn't sound very much fun... Nal Hutta? What's there?" Asked the young girl curiously, as she has never been to a planet named Nal Hutta.

"Work?" Asked Eithni, she did have quite a few questions, but then again, she was a curious creature by nature. "I know what's a ship is, does that count?" replied the young Nightsister with a raised eyebrow. Truth be told, she knew absolutely nothing about ships, other than what they were and could fly in space.

"Hm... sounds fun, are we gonna shot some other ships?" Asked the now very curious and sudden excited girl. She's eaten up and got up from the table and went to the kitchen, to place the bowl on the counter. "Can I fly the ship?" Asked Eithni as she started to investigate everything. Everything from drawers and cabinets, to pushing buttons, just to see what the machines actually did. She sniffed to the caf-machine, which she regretted almost immediately, pulling her head back with a small sneeze.

She then went to the freezer compartment and opened it, "you got meat!" expressed the young girl surprised and pulled out some frozen meat, "why aren't you eaten this?" Asked the girl surprised and gave a Hask a questioning look.

Her opinion on Tatooine was fairly accurate to put it mildly. But he was surprised that she never heard of Nal Hutta, the home of the Hutt clans. "Nal Hutta is the home world of the Hutts, a large and feared crime group. They're a good source for work, especially now that they are trying to rebuild their criminal empire." Hask explained calmly to bring her up to speed. He didn't need to go in detail just yet.

Naturally she didn't know how a ship worked...and he doubted she fully understood what a ship is. "Okay...there will be chances to both shoot and fly. But before any of that happens, you'll need to learn how a ship works. I can teach you if you want." he offered. It might be an offer that he might resent down the line, but now it seemed like a good idea. Challenging, sure, but still good. She then decided to explore and he watched her as she rummaged through the cabinets. She soon found the freezer and seemed shocked over the frozen meat stored away. He couldn't help but chuckle at her confusion. "That meat is our food for the ship. We'll cook it up tomorrow for lunch or maybe today, depending on how we feel." he explained to her. "So don't worry, it will most certainly be eaten." he reassured her.

"Oh... okay," said Eithni and placed the frozen meat back in the freezer. "Cool!" exclaimed the young girl with a grin as she turned to Hask again. One of Hask crew member entered the mess hall and tried to ignore the change girl, per order from Hask, but it was a bit difficult, to be honest when the strange girl looked like that. Eithni didn't pay much mind to the man as she continued to check out the mess hall. "So, what now?" Asked Eithni as her eyes turned luminous green as she started to levitate from the floor to get to the top of the kitchen's cabinets as she wasn't tall enough to see what was on the top. Hask's crew member almost choked on his caf when he saw the strange girl actually float in the air. He had seen quite a lot of strange things in his time and he knew Hask could do those force abilities, but never in his life, had he seen people fly on their own without help.

he coughed violently, trying to get his breathing back in order. Eithni ignored the man's sudden coughing, not important to her as she opened cupboards to see what hid behind cupboard doors. A bit disappointed when she didn't find anything interesting, but then again, why would anyone hide anything interesting in the mess hall? She landed again and turned to look at Hask with her normal red ruby coloured eyes. "I'm bored... let's shoot something!" expressed Eithni with an ecstatic smile and went to the door and disappeared
as the door closed behind her.

The crew member, now having his breathing and coughing under control again, holding op to the counter, "she farking flew! A girl just flew like it was nothing?!" Said the crew member in disbelief and looked at Hask for some kind of explanation for how she could fly. Eithni stood in a corridor, looking for the way to the cockpit, not really knowing where it actually was, but hey, exploration! And with that, she just turned down another corridor, curious to see what she would find.

Hask didn't pay his crew mate any mind as he entered, simply watching Ethni as she rummaged through the drawers and cupboards. Though the split second it took him to blink was enough to throw a curve-ball. Ethni was suddenly levitating off the ground. His crew member coughed with surprise and Hask blinked a second time to make sure he wasn't seeing things.

She kept searching through the top cupboards and finally landed again, turning to Hask and wanting to shoot something. She ran off further into the ship, leaving Hask with the crewman. He looked at the man with raised eyebrows. The man ranted over her flying like it was nothing, earning a shrug from his captain. "She's a Nightsister. If the stories are anything to go by, then flying is the least impressive thing she can do." he explained and walked on after the girl before she could mess something up. He got out of the mess hall and looked around before deciding on a route. The ship was big but not that confusing to navigate. There was only a handful of places she could reach without taking off panels and other means which he doubted she knew.

"Ethni! Where are you? Get back here!" he called out, hoping to make his job easier. He doubted she would listen but it was worth a shot. He checked through the crew quarters, his room and the cargo hold, not finding any sign of her. He finally went to the cockpit, but she wasn't there either. His heart started to sink. He hadn't checked the engine room...

He bolted down the hallways to the rear of the ship. The engine room was the last place she needed to be in. One wrong move and they could turn into a bomb and a big one at that...

Eithni had heard Hask called for her, which sort of brought up the mischievous nature in her as she giggled and continued on. As she explored the ship, she made sure to always evaded Hask, which just made her little game so much more fun. She even managed to evade Hask's crew and just as Hask left the cockpit, sneaked Eithni into it, smiling to herself, as if she just got away with something she wasn't allowed to do. Since no one was in the cockpit, Eithni saw it her personal job to explore the place and oh boy she did. First, she flew over to the pilot seat and sat down, looking at everything and really wanting to press buttons. Then she went to check out everything else in the cockpit before thinking to herself, it would be hilarious to scare Hask a little! Only a harmless scare, of course.

She floated over the floor, leaving no sound as she followed the sound of the pure-blooded man to somewhere in the ship. She really hoped Hask didn't think to use the force to pick out her location, would defeat the whole purpose of sneaking up on the man. Eithni had to hide from some of Hask's crewmembers as she followed him through the ship, but she still managed to keep herself from being discovered. Just as Hask entered the engine room, no one was inside and the only sound he could hear was the engine itself roaring quietly on its own.

Suddenly Hask felt a couple of hands lightly place on his back and control but loud "wah!" came behind him and if her little scare worked, would the yell be followed by a loud laughing mix in with a giggling.

Hask's attention was completely in front of him, too focused on finding Ethni who he thought was on her way to the engine room if not there already. Not once did he think to look behind him.

He opened the door to the engine room and walked in. "Ethni?! You in here?!" he called out over the humming of the reactor and other systems. He took another step in, when he felt hands on his back. Instinctively he reached for his lightsaber but the sudden "Wah!" right next to him startled him enough to make him not only jump with something of a squeak escaping him, but accidentally fling his lightsaber through the air. It landed somewhere deeper in the engine room with a loud 'clang'.

Hask spun around with something between a frown and a smile as he stared the laughing Nightsistar down. "What the hell?!" he yelled as his breathing tried to stabilise, but it was clear he was working hard on keeping his laugh in. "Are you serious?! You gave me a heart attack!" he scolded her but at that point was laughing along with her. After he finally calmed down he folded his arms and looked at her again. "You made me lose my lightsaber." he said as sternly as possible which didn't amount to much and walked deeper into the room.

He wanted to tell her not to touch anything but figured it was best not to give her ideas. He walked slowly to look behind every nook and cranny for the silver durasteel hilt...while also making sure he kept an eye on Ethni before she wandered off again.

Eithni was so much that she needed the wall as support, as she wouldn't fall over and hurt herself. The young Nightsister's laugher was an unrestrained, blissful, bright, bubbly and fully joyous laugh, trying to contain the small tears that wanted to form in the corner of her eyes. "You-You should have seen your face and that scream!" Said Eithni struggling, as just by describing Hask's very girly squeak. Eithni couldn't stop, she just kept on with her bubbly but unrestrained laugh as she slid down the wall to sit and wouldn't fall. Hask could even hear the young girl's laughter as he tried to find his lightsaber.

By the time Hask had found his lightsaber and walked back to Eithni, as the lively laughter dived down to small crackle, which she tried to hold back by biting her lower lips. The young girl finally got her own laughing under control again and just gave Hask a big wide sheepish smile, as if she hadn't done anything wrong. Eithni was sitting in a frog position looking up at the red-skinned Pure-blooded man as if she hadn't scared the living hell out of him.

"Are you gonna teach me how to fly now and shoot ships?" Asked Eithni with an innocent grin. "There was no one when I was in the flyroom and so many buttons on those boxes around the seat, how do you keep track of which does what?" Asked the young girl curiously.

Throughout the entire compartment he heard her laughing. It annoyed the hell out of him but at the same time it was also quite funny. Despite the handful she was proving to be, she was starting to grow on him.

He finally found his lightsaber and picked it up before walking back to her. She sat on the floor with an innocent smile which made him rest his fists on his hips as he looked down at her like a parent. Her question was blunt and made him drop his head in defeat as he laughed. He looked back up at her with defeated eyes. "Shoot, no. Not yet. Fly...I think we can start with that. But you'll have to stay put and pay attention, got that? he said sternly yet calmly. Despite the condition he gave her he doubted she'll actually follow his orders. With a flick of his wrist he gently picked her up with the Force and placed her on her feet. He led the way to the cockpit as he played with his lightsaber hilt. "You get used to it. It is jarring, but later on you just know where everything sits." he explained over his shoulder, making sure she followed.

In the cockpit they were alone and he stood next to the pilot's seat. "Alright, get in but don't touch anything just yet." he ordered and turned the chair for her to sit down in.

Eithni pouted a bit when told that she couldn't shoot anything yet, but was still cheerful over being able to fly a ship. She giggled a bit from being lifted into the air and almost wanted to ask him to do it again. It was something else to be lifted into the air than levitating herself as that pretty much was like walking to her. She followed Hask, listening, sort of, okay not as much as everything else on the ship was much more interesting to look at. She was used to sneaking onboard ships to get around, the universe, but now that she could 'freely' looking around became every so exciting.

When they arrived at the cockpit, she looked around, so many buttons, she wasn't sure if she would ever get familiar with them all, despite what the red-skinned Sith said. She did as Hask told her, but the fact that he ordered her not to touch anything, made her fingers itch for trying all the buttons and she just wanted to touch everything in the cockpit even more, now that she wasn't allowed to. Never-the-less, she did sit in the chair and when she turned back to facing control panel, she let out a short "weee" with a small grin.

Looking down at all the buttons, joystick and throttle she looked up at Hask like a child waiting for her father's directions. "What now?" Asked Eithni eagerly, almost jumping in the chair.

Ethni's playful nature was rather fun to watch. He gave a faint smile as she looked everything over. He knew he was going to have to be patient with her. She looked up to him expectantly, waiting for his input. He reached over and in a few quick motions he flipped switches, pressed buttons, pulled levers and the ship powered down. It drifted lazily in space with only the artificial gravity and atmosphere remaining on. "Okay, first things first. We need to power it up." he explained calmly.

"Okay...now..." he started, then slowly explained how to check the systems, how to power up the ship's systems, the fuel systems. Everything he explained as simply as he could and why she needed to check all of it. He knew with her the latter was more important than the former...

Finally after everything was shown a few times he let her do it herself. As she flipped the switches some systems beeped, others whined and the sound of engines priming up could be heard. Now all that was left was to start it up. "And now you press the ignition." he finished and pointed out the flashing red button. "It will only flash if you did all the previous things correctly." he explained to her.

As soon as she pressed it the roar of the engines could be heard which hummed through the ship. "Well done!" he congratulated her with a squeeze of the shoulders. "Now you take the wheel and place your feet on the pedals down there. This lever handles the throttle to make it go slower or faster. The pedals are to turn left and right. Pulling and pushing the wheel lets the ship go up or down and turning the wheel spins the ship." he explained and showed her all the controls. "Okay, now gently push the throttle forward." he explained and waited for her to start.

Eithni listening and followed Hasks guiding words. It was all very confusing, why did a ship need so many buttons? It would be so much easier with one button and then you would be good to go! Never-the-less, the young witch got everything powered on and a huge grin formed the girls face. She took the wheel, feeling it in her hands and then placed her other hand on the throttle, she had a bit of trouble reaching the pedals, which earned a small huff from her in annoyance, but as soon as the red-skinned Sith showed her how to get the seat to slide forward, she smiled cheerfully again.

Just as one of Hask's crew member, funnily enough, the same one from the mess hall, entered the cockpit for to with Hask about some stuff, pushed Eithni the throttle all the way forward. The ship roared as it shot through space at maximum velocity with Eithni yelling "woohoo!" followed by laughter. The crew member, having nothing to hold on to, felt the pressure from the sudden high velocity of speed and stumbled backwards, hitting the floor.

Eithni wasn't done, oh no, she turned the wheel, making the ship do continuously 360 degrees with the ship. Eithni was haven't the time of her life and made the ship fly in a big arc and kept going upwards and then around, for only to continue around and then fly down, "This. is. so. much. fuuuuuun!" yelled the witch ecstatically as she straightened up the flying and just went directly at an asteroid field.
