Clinton, South Dakota, 1888.

The city of Clinton is a boiling point in the Dakota Territories. Ruled with an iron fist by the ruthless, self-appointed Mayor, James Augustine Brown, a former Union Army Colonel, and the center of a massive gold rush, the once humble train stop has grown into a boomtown. But it has grown too big too fast. Its lawlessness draws the attention of the territorial government in Yankton. With a vote for statehood being prepared in Washington in the coming year, the territorial government seeks to pacify the city, as to not threaten the future of the Dakota.

A group of renegade gunslingers from New Mexico, known as the Coyote Regulators, are contacted. The Regulators are appointed the law in Clinton, and their arrival is met with immediate conflict from Brown and his army of gunmen. As the townsfolk try to survive in the Clinton Goldfields, they begin to realize something. A war is coming to Clinton.

Or something to that effect. How does this sound to you guys?

Basically, a wild west RP in South Dakota. A la Deadwood. You don't have to be part of the Regulators either. Anyway, consider this a rough draft, and let me know if you have any ideas for changes and the like. :D

This seems pretty neat, and I've wanted to do something with the Wild West for a long time. Count me in.

Glad you guys are interested! :D I'mma do an intro thread one of these days. Until then, feel free to upload characters. For simplicity's sake, keep it relatively short, and use the following profile format;

(PICTURE HERE IF YOU HAVE ONE)

Name:

Age:

History:

Equipment:

Profession: (If a member of the Regulators, just put "gunslinger" or "pistoleer". If other, describe why they are in Clinton and what they do for a living there.)

My character;

young-indiana-jones-int-1.jpg

Name: Harry Dunham Rhodes

Age: 24

History: An orphan of an Indian attack, raised among Mexican bandits, Rhodes made a name for himself at a young age as a gunslinger in New Mexico. Because of his young age and violent nature, he earned the nickname "Kid Devil". Over time, his reputation grew as a deadly pistoleer and desperado. He has spent time in both Dodge City and Tombstone, and crossed paths with famous men like Wild Bill Hickok and Wyatt Earp, even barely avoiding a gunfight with the renowned Doc Holiday. It is said by many that he once sold his soul to the Devil in exchange for becoming the deadliest gunslinger in the Americas. He leads the Coyote Regulators, a group of exiled New Mexican gunslingers who sell themselves to the highest bidder.

Equipment: Schofield revolver, Winchester rifle.

Profession: Professional gunfighter

Mitch McConnel
Railroad Marshal

Born in New York City, Mitch joined the Railroad as a young man, working his way up the administration quickly, to soon become appointed as the Railroad Marshal, ensuring that law and order would persist on the frontiers. He has a harsh outlook on life, and is (like the author of this) not very good at writing character bios.

He is often armed with a simple revolver.

Profession: Rail Manager/Marshal

Name:
Captain Jonathan Shah, Retired

Age:
39 years old

History:
Born to Elizabeth and Maxwell Shah as their eldest child, with a younger pair of fraternal twins to follow not long after him. His father was a commissioned officer in the Royal Corps of Engineers and the family's line of proud military service leading up to that led Jonathan to pursue his own commission. He was made a medical officer and apprenticed under a senior doctor in 1868 - just in time for the Expedition to Abyssinia in Ethiopia.

He proved himself a skilled man of medicine and was able to coordinate those placed under him with efficiency and purpose despite pressure. He went on to serve in the Third Anglo-Ashanti War, the Perak War of 1875, and finally rounded out his service in the Ninth Xhosa War of South Africa where he lost a leg and was allowed to leave Her Majesty's Service to pursue his own plans. The excitement of the uniform never left him, however, and it wasn't long after reaching Canada that he turned to gunslinging more than his medical practice to make money and a name for himself. By 1884 he had found himself among the Regulators where he made money fighting when he wasn't moonlighting his medical trade.

Equipment:
A Winchester Model 1887 lever-action shotgun, 10-gauge
Twin Colt Single Action Army revolvers, .45 caliber
A good-quality bowie knife should he need it
A cane made out of African Blackwood
An ensemble of scalpels, bone saws, and other medical implements and medicines

Plus if he took it off, he could probably thwack somebody good enough with his false lower left leg

Profession:
A gunslinger among the Regulators, but also a practicing doctor and former soldier

Name: Logan Burham
Age: 45
History:
Old enough to have enlisted with the Union during the Civil War, Logan was the eldest of his four siblings but ironically enough the last to have enlisted after having a loud row with his younger brother; Benjamin Burham would later travel to the South to enlist, primarily out of spite. The remaining three would be reshuffled into the state's regiments, never coming in contact with each other during the four years of hell; Logan partook in the war as part of a sharpshooter's regiment, Phillip as artillery and Jonathan as infantry. Phillip would be the first to return back to their family's farmland, caught in a blast that would leave him with an arm short and a disfigured face.

Jonathan never returned home, and some dare claimed that he had deserted only to be found and shot. Logan survived primarily because he didn't risk anything, and as the war ended he quit the military before anything else could happen that might drag him back. The war affected plenty of people in some ways, and for Logan and countless others the peace and quiet of post-war did not suit him, seeking the old routine that kept the blood rushing. Plying his trade as a sharpshooter the Burham traveled South to seek for his brother to bring him home. When news reached his ears that Benjamin had survived the war and was part of an outlaw gang Logan switched directions almost immediately to his last known sighting: Clinton, South Dakota.

Equipment:
Remington New Model 1858 Revolver; Cartridge Converted.
Berdan Sharps Rifle; 3/4" Malcolm Telescopic Rifle scope, 32" Long- with mount.
Saddlebred Horse: "Able."

Profession:
Hired Gun, Former US Sharpshooter.

Definitely interested in this, looks like fun.

I was thinking of doing a bounty hunter, perhaps with my target being one of the Regulators. I figured with Clinton being the lawless place it is, somebody isn't going to be happy with hired lawmen coming to town. Thoughts?

Wouldnt be a bad idea. We could all be the next tombstone/hateful 8/silverado type of story.
