General Info
Omdool, a young upstart with only an unfortunate speech impediment standing in between him and success.

Music
Short Change Hero - The Heavy

Personality
Omdool was always about money. From an early age he was a good mathematician and even better at looking after money, often helping his mother and father with finances. As he grew older and his family’s business descended into bankruptcy, he showed his talent at the less legal side of business: smuggling, conning and embezzlement. This is where Omdool truly shines. He takes great pleasure in swindling people out of their money, especially when the people involved are rich, obnoxious snobs from beautiful, far away planets, with pristine golden beaches and million-credit mansions. These are the types of people the young Mon Calamari hates the most.

Omdool started life as moderately well off, but because of his mother’s drinking and gambling habits - the reason for their lessening relationship - he soon started drowning in debt. He grew distant from his family and a distrust for cheap liquor and casinos, finding solace in his own enterprises. Part of the reason for this was his stammer. This unfortunate speech defect had always been an issue, but never became anywhere close to crippling until Omdool gained that further level of independence. His parents were too poor to do try and do anything about it and so it went unchecked throughout his later teens and to the modern day. Because of this he spends a lot of his time backstage, managing business from a safe distance. His stammer causes the most issues when he’s under pressure or stress, so he tries to stay away from dangerous situations as much as possible for someone in his line of work.

One consequence of Omdool’s lifestyle is a sort of loneliness. His career is very solitary and his social life is non existent. The rare times he has been involved romantically have been brisk and the separations messy (and, incidentally, entirely his fault) so he doesn’t have the best confidence with women. He certainly doesn’t trust his friends either, because most of them like money more than he does, which is more than his friends. All the time Omdool spends alone isn’t put to waste, though. He can speak three languages fluently (Standard, Huttese and Rodese) and can play both the Kloo Horn and the Bandfill. Although he doesn’t let anyone see this side of him, Omdool is often a gentler character on his own, in his apartment on Druckenwell. He listens to music, regularly reads books, and keeps all manner of pets, ranging from a tank of small fish, to his Gobo, Buttercup.

Biography
Omdool’s entry into life was fairly normal for a Mon Cal on Nar Shaddaa. A large family of eight children, a mum, a dad and other extended family lived in one tiny space. It was dirty, it smelled of faeces and dead things, and the heavy, stifling smog smothered the area around Omdool’s home. Although the conditions were terrible, especially for such a porous species as the Mon Calamari, Omdool and his family did their best to run a small scrapyard from that room. Most of the business was illegal, but ‘crime’ is written in big letters on all the “Visit Nar Shaddaa!” travel brochures, so no one really cared.

Omdool’s mother Kluni had an expensive obsession: hair. The Mon Cals are born without hair, but Kluni idolised rich human celebrities and heroes from long ago, like the Lorrdian, Florria or the Jedi, Ebberla Daw, and so would buy wigs of synthetic hair to emulate the appearance of long, flowing locks. Unfortunately, wigs -synthetic or not - were expensive. Her husband, the owner of Shaloon’s Scrapyard, was a man of much simpler tastes. He enjoyed gambling, cheap liquor and swoop racing; in fact, he was so obsessed with the sport that he once bet one of his own children on a result. Luckily he won, but that really paints the picture of Omdool’s childhood. He was a tiny part of a much larger system and his own problems were rarely addressed. He and his family lived from purchase to purchase, on the verge of financial collapse at every turn.

So, it was not much of a surprise when Omdool’s stammer went untreated for so long. Kluni and Shaloon had just thought their son was quiet, and so let him go about his own business. He spent a lot of his life - as a child especially - on his own, often in his parents’ scrapyard, searching for old bits and pieces he could use to play with. He found all manner of things, from an old set of musical instruments, to the remnants of an ancient swoop bike (soon stolen by his dad for his private collection). This suited Omdool just fine, as previous interactions with other children had proved dangerous and most often violent. There were no friends on Nar Shaddaa, as it turned out.

When Omdool was old enough (around 12, apparently) his mother and father stopped being parents and became his bosses. A family business, they told him, requires the whole family. Everyone had their roles, whether it was looking after the customers as they entered the shop, keeping the house tidy and clean ish, or taking any old junk they could find lying around the streets. Omdool, however, was one of the smallest, but he had a sharp mind. His job was to do with money, and that is how his love of credits and numbers came about. There was the opportunity to sit by himself and go over purchases. Of course, he wasn’t alone at first. His oldest cousin was in charge, but soon he was given more responsibilities. He didn’t enjoy it, not like a hobby, but it certainly wasn’t his least favourite part of the day.

And so life went on, however nervously and smog filled. Disease became the biggest worry, as both of Omdool’s aunts fell ill. Bandits and looters were always an issue, but after the head of security at Shaloon’s Scrapyard was taken out of action, they came in waves to take whatever they could from their stockpiles. The most expensive items were all gone and although they had the common courtesy to leave a sizeable stash of various items and scrap metal, it would never be enough to keep the business going. The hull had been breached, and the ship was going down.

The family’s financial problems were always kept as quiet as possible. No one would talk about them around the shop and no one dared bring them up at meals or other family gatherings. However, as Omdool was heavily involved in the upkeep of the families finances, he knew the truth. Shaloon’s Scrapyard would be bankrupt within the year. Shaloon himself knew this of course and so it was that night when he pulled Omdool to one side and told him to leave. It was the most selfless thing his father had ever done, giving him his blessing to leave the sinking business behind. The now adult Mon Calamari packed his bags, said his farewells and, following the trend of three of his brothers before him, left his home on Nar Shaddaa.

Omdool spent the next month living off of his own back. He had enough credits to last him a couple of months, if he was lucky, and he took a blaster with him to protect those credits. Most of the food he could find was stolen from markets or people’s homes, but he tried to stay as clean as possible. The solitary life suited Omdool nicely. His stutter wasn’t a problem if he was on his own, but it did mean he was at a risk of bandits and gangs. It had always been his dream to get away from Nar Shaddaa, and so Omdool decided to take a risk. One day, when he was walking further through the bustling megacity, he saw a typical advertisement, this one for [aeon]CORP. ‘Lhyzer Pharmaceuticals. We do it for a healthier tomorrow.’ it read. Lhyzer Pharmaceuticals was a medical firm based on Druckenwell, an industrial planet famous for its hundreds of jobs. Taken by a sudden hunger for steady pay, Omdool used the rest of his money to buy a ticket to the Doldur sector.

Omdool has been working for Lhyzer Pharmaceuticals for over a year now. He is always looking for ways to expand his paycheck and [aeon]CORP has been linked with the Hutt Cartel for as long as it has existed. That is the next goal for Omdool. The Hutt Cartel is the next frontier.

This is really cool, great personality section for a brand new character. Characters with handicaps or impediments are always interesting to play. My Sith Andromeda is mute due to her deformities, though she uses telepathy.
