Omren knows very little of his early life. He was born on the planet Iktotch into a family that was familiar with the Jedi Order. When it was found that he was force sensitive, the infant Omren was immediately sent to the Jedi Temple on Tython. He was raised in the hallowed halls of the enclave, undergoing the standard training of a youngling where he was found to be both a diligent student and powerful in the ways of the Force. The Jedi Historian Plu Chortkat took a special interest in the boy, and was eventually assigned as his master. The female Ithorian taught him with a strict but fair hand, and soon his natural talents bloomed under her tutelage.
Master Chortkat had a hands-on philosophy concerning the study of history, and often took her apprentice into the field to inspect various ruins and access records in hard to reach places. This inspired in him a willingness to get his hands dirty, and gave him more than a few memorable experiences in the pursuit of knowledge. As the years went by, the two became nigh-inseparable as their relationship turned from a teacher-student bond to a genuine friendship. Plu passed on her Jedi wisdom while Omren grounded her and gave her much needed stability in her hectic life.
However, when the Army of Light was formed to battle the resurgent Sith, the Iktotchi apprentice sprung at the chance to join them. He was intent on chronicling their deeds and struggles for posterity, although his Master did not approve. His decision to leave with the militants would strain their relationship to the point that they would never truly reconcile. In the company of the Army of Light, Omren was assigned a new Master, an old man who was more interested in studying tomes than training an apprentice, and was mostly left to his own devices.
The Destruction of Tython took the lives of many great Jedi, but none affected Omren more than the death of Plu Chortkat. He hadn't spoken with his first Master in years, making her violent demise that much more painful. The apprentice historian became bitter and distant for a time, spending most of his days in he Archives rather than in the presence of his fellow Jedi. Eventually, he mustered enough strength to pass his Initiate Trial, but becoming a Knight did little to soothe his melancholy. Over the course of the next five years, he slowly regained his energy and passion for the Order. Seeking to live up to his old Master's memory, Omren began to actively pursue lost history once more. -
As an Iktotchi, Omren's most striking features are the two large horns that curve downwards out of his skull. His leathery skin is a shade of dark orange, and is wrapped tightly around his frame. Two steely, pale blue eyes peer out underneath his broad forehead and frame a face that is set in stony, emotionless features. His build is fairly tall and stocky, standing 6'3" (1.9 meters) and weighing 200 lbs (90 kg). Another telltale sign of his people are his large, fatty hands.
To say that the Jedi has an inverse sense of style would be an understatement. Almost all of his clothing is the same shade of dark tan. While some Lore Keepers favor ornate Ansatan robes to demonstrate their dedication to learning, Omren is a firm believer in simplicity and utilitarianism, hence his exceeding drab wardrobe. Despite his poor fashion sense, his clothes are always clean and well-fitted. He dislikes wearing armor, and will only equip his modular protection if absolutely sure that he will be in a dangerous situation. -
On the outside, Omren maintains a stoic disposition that can come off as cold and uncaring to the uninitiated. He rarely starts conversations and is to-the-point in his responses, while jokes and sarcasm tend to go over his head as he is very literal in his interpretations. More than anything, he dedicates his life to the study and preservation of history. While he is perfectly happy studying in a temple, he often finds the need to go into the field to see and record history firsthand. Ultimately, his philosophy of historiography is that one must approach subjects in a totally objective, unbiased manner, no matter how undesirable the content may to be. His driving vision is to make the Jedi Archives the greatest center for knowledge in the galaxy, available not only to Jedi of future generations but also to the public, so that they may better understand where they came from.
However, this methodical and dedicated exterior hides a sensitive and kind inner self. Omren cares deeply for his fellow Jedi, and while he is slow to show affection, he would do almost anything to assist them. He sees violence as a last resort, refusing to engage combat unless there is no hope of negotiation. Amusingly enough, the Jedi Historian has something of a sweet tooth, and will occasionally sneak cookies and other sweets into the Archives while in study. -
First and foremost, Omren is keen user of the Force. Trained in the ways of the Jedi Consulars since childhood, he is a proficient wielder of his Force abilities. His skills in Telekinesis, Sense, and certain Trances are especially honed. Precognition and telepathy are naturally strong in Iktotchi, with Omren being no exception. While he is focused on the use of the Force, he is no slouch with a lightsaber. He is primarily a practitioner of Forms V and VI, focusing his efforts on defense and counters.
In terms of non Force-Sensitive skills, Omren is very knowledgeable of history, particularly the history of the Jedi Order. To read various texts, he has learned more than a few languages along with Basic and his native Iktotchese. Along with this, he is a surprisingly skilled pilot, honed from years of flying from planet to planet with his master.
