idk about that shizu, his era was filled with different mindsets. It was written in that time and in no way could anyone predict gay marriage would be accepted. This is asinine of both parties, this is an old debate and therefore it's not as significant as it once was. Move on to something else.

edit: for any community to attack someone based on their beliefs is wrong. To attack someone after the fact is useless. Let's attack the LGBT community because they wasted our tax dollars is a nonproductive statement. focus on the future.

I'll agree that we shouldn't outright attack people who think gay marriage is wrong, because that would be hypocritical. But for the guy who has spent millions of dollars to stop people from having the same basic right as the rest of us, and claims that gay people are just the end result of child abuse, referring to gay people as mentally ill. And THEN, once his side loses a large battle he suddenly wants everything to be fair? That we should all suddenly forget everything they've done to make peoples lives as hard as they possibly can?

So no, I'm not just going to "move on".

I'll still see the movie. A boycott would hurt the studio and the major players more than it would Card.

However, “he’s from a different time” is no excuse. Bigotry is bigotry whether you were born in the 50s or the 90s.

Yeah, I agree with you about that. I didn't exactly see people buy that excuse from Paula Deen. I suppose more people are willing to extend it to OSC because he's not an old southern woman. The thought of a science fiction writer having bigotry? The slander. For the most part, it seems that people are pretty consistent with not allowing old fashioned rhetoric slide, regardless of who said it. So, I can't really get worked up about any sort of imaginary double-standard.

People let it slide from their grandmas. Beyond that, not so much.

I never saw these views when reading the book. Just because the guy has these views doesn't mean the book, and now movie, promote them.

I'll still be seeing the movie.

Nope. I don't honestly give a shit if Mr. Card is a moron (he is) since --like some beautiful savant-- he's able to write rather good books. Whatever.

However, this notion that we should forgive and forget? Bullshit. You don't get a pass on being a ****ing asshole just because we managed to beat you down in the legal and public court of opinion. The next step for gay rights is making homophobia as unacceptable as racism (and even that is not nearly censured enough in an honest way) is.

tl;dr

The only tolerance we have to show Mr. Card is not burning him in the public square (full disclosure: I would prefer beating him to death with a technicolor dildo, for a gay twist to it, but whatevs) or otherwise persecuting him or denying him rights (something that he would only be too happy to do to our gay brothers and sisters.) But there is no compromise with intolerance. Root it out. Crush it. Or it will take root in some other form again.
