Biography
Born in Camula, a minor industrial city in Corellia, to manual labourer parents, he saw the closing of factories on a large scale in his early teens as a result of planet-wide restructuring. There was major upheaval with strikes and riots, clashes with the police and uninvestigated abuses of power. Deep distrust was sown in the community, especially amongst the immigrant labour populations who were unfairly scapegoated by both the government and the indigenous unemployed.
Pat joined the police to better himself and his community: his peers either went into low level service industries or the gangs: prostitution, extortion and drug pushing. He quickly moved from uniform to detective as his local knowledge and analytical mind suited him to the role perfectly. However, his humble origins, lack of formal education and unwillingness to play station politics have thus far stunted his career.
He is now the sole detective in a small East-side station, answerable separately to a uniformed Inspector and the city crime squad. This tension can put Pat in the middle of a resources war: the crime squad requires more and more "results" (at any cost, financial or ethical) where his local boss restricts his access to uniform officers and overtime pay in the name of efficiency and imposes more and more bureaucracy. Pat's solution would be to get rid of the latter to improve the former. The proper role of a detective is to catch bad guys, not write reports.
Appearance/Gear
Greying hair, 5'11". Wears dark grey/tan suits (not black/navy), often with a trench coat over the top. Speaks with a local accent.
Blasters (and other weapons) have been effectively controlled in Camula, so he rarely carries one or wears armour. When the need arises, he is authorised to carry an issue 4C Blaster and has access to Enforcer Armour (though often without helmet unless absolutely necessary)
Motives, Ambitions and Personality
Aspires to a quiet retirement, working to get a good pension, though he has a strong localist conscience: essentially to provide the quiet life he covets for those around him.
He takes a pragmatic view of life - the ends justify the means - but will take a firm view on anyone whose purposes fall short of the high standards he sets himself and others. He is also deeply sarcastic, especially on little sleep, and doesn't suffer fools gladly, whether below or above him in rank. As far as he is concerned, fools include anyone with any kind of political or ideological agenda: they are dangerous for no reason, it was politics that closed the factories, ideology that caused the strikes and the combination that got people killed.
His disdain for authority might trick an observer into thinking he wasn't interested in promotion, but every time he is passed over for someone younger than him, he rankles at the fact his long service, hard work and local knowledge are not being recognised.
