The jungles of Rishi where chalk full of possible dangers and equally as entrancing sights for the young Jedi Hopefuls that had come to call the location home for a time. Here they had entered beneath the tutelage of Jedi Master Luy, a member of the venerable and vulnerable Jedi Order. Though thousands of years ago the Jedi stood as guardians of peace and justice, they now found themselves vastly outnumbered in a Sith controlled galaxy. Having known the lure of darkness and the sting of loss, Horus had come to champion the idea of combat practice among his clan to ensure they where ready for the tasks ahead. He had some experience with the blade, and as he paced across the barren sandy shores - wooden sword in hand - he observed his fellow allies. Rebels and, in his view, Jedi all. Once you were in, they where all marked for death by the Imperials from Empires old and new. It was time to see whether this collection knew what they where doing.

“Eldrin. Nikka, Jorrin, Jake. I hope you’re all as pumped as I am, and don’t mind getting hit. I won’t bore you with the specifics of a stick, everybody knows that anatomy, but for the purpose of this exercise I thought it prudent for us to wear these.”

With a start, Horus produced a number of blindfolds from his pack. He knew Nikka and Master Luy wouldn’t have any issue with them, but the others may very well find themselves in situations where they couldn’t rely on their eyesight to see. He’d done blind meditations himself so he had some experience with the art of sensory deprivation. Tossing the pieces of fabric to each of them in turn, Horus shot a wry grin forward as his vision faded to black. Once the cloth was taught, he reached out towards the feelings of the others, listening for the sound of movement and the rasping of breath. He had a certain degree of success.

“Unless you have anything to say, Eldrin, I suggest we pair off and explain what combat is actually like. Here you can get up and try again. Out there? They would like nothing better than to put you down. I’d rather have us all ready for that possibility sooner than later!”

The jungles of Rishi where alive and though without filled with dangers beyond counting they were still beautiful to behold. One on his clanmates had decided it would be a good idea to practice some form of combat training. Of course, it would be with there wooden sparing swords. That though solid and heavy were not likely to kill. It would be needed training everyone here was now marked and wanted by the Sith who would happily chase down and run down anyone suspected of even knowing the name of a Jedi.

Jake still twirled his stick in his hand as Horus spoke. Jake knew a fair bit about duelling still. It was all ways a good idea to get more training done. He looked over the other hopefuls and it was clear that he was the youngest among them. When the blindfolds where passed Jake put it over his head but did not pull it over his eyes leaving it across his forehead instead. moving to one side Jake waited still twirling the wooden sword feeling the balance of the weapon

Breathe in. Breathe out.

The weight of the wooden stick in her hand was a nearer familiarity by now; balanced, steady, a trifle heavier than her own baton, left on the Kirin with her next project by the wayside. Not working on it was a difficult enough task. But here, on this planet, there was so much left to do. She was previously aware of knowing nothing, but now it was more so. Evasive maneuvers? Sure. She had done more than her fair share, both on the ground and in ships.

The Vahlan pacing before her seemed to illuminate that much brighter. In fact, if anything, he seemed... eager, for these lessons. Based on previous demonstration from Luy, she supposed the Vahlan Horus had some experience. Her lips drew into the usual side grin when he mentioned being pumped... yes, she could feel it. It hummed on the back of her skull, anticipation. Not just from her. She could feel it under her boots, the faintest buzz that followed footprints, that drew in and out with breath before fading to match the dull hum of life in the jungle.

She chuckled as the light weight of a blindfold settled over her hand, tightening it over her veil as a show of solidarity. But still, she could See. The slight whistling of breathing in, the blowing of breath out. Each glowed against the translucent shapes of trees, vines, and bushes.. if the Miraluka had a sense of color, she would have said it was akin to beacons of light on a dull background. Yes. They were very visible now, whereas before they were not quite as clear.

Breathe in, breathe out. Her grip on the branch loosened, her posture relaxed. No words needed to be said, she relished the chance to begin. And with the possibility of sparring? This was a treat the fem could hardly wait to jump into.

"Usually I learn to do something before I try it blind..."

Said Jorrin, reluctantly putting the blindfold on. Predictably, he couldn't see much of anything. From the feeling of the stick in his hand, he could at least tell what he was doing. Though, he was already losing his sense of the surrounding terrain. What the others were doing was even less obvious. He could hear the rustling of clothing if he focused on it, but had no understanding of what movements those sounds might suggest.

"Why not a practice round?"

Her voice chirped up, brows raising slightly above the double layers. Her mouth spread into a grin that denied her nervousness, stick still lowered. "After all, I don't know much in the name of battle; pairing off between us, two at a time? Winner takes on the next in line?"

That way, those that preferred to fight sighted could, while those blind... could do it as well.

The grin widened. "Blind with blind, sight with sight?"

Jorrin lifted his blindfold, looking around the group.

"You mean to say we can fight without these on?"
It was preferable that way, but the others seemed comfortable enough blind.
"If so, we ought to decide who goes first."

“That's not a bad idea. I can't say I know who's in front of me right now, but I'll gladly take you on. Promise I won't hit too hard.

Horus swung the stick forward, going from a low guard to a high, making sure he didn't hit anybody in the process. Shifting his stance, he performed a twist of his wrist to send the stick into a downward swing, and then performed a pirouette into the next guard. It was practice and warm-up before the actual sparring began, hoping his opponent was of equal skill. He could recognize Nikka's voice, then the other human who was present, and finally the rippling of water nearby. It was a distracting sound, but nothing he couldn't work through. The Force emanated from him freely, a tiny little flicker, no bigger than a spark. But that spark was lit, and now he could use it freely in the presence of his clan mates. Hopefully, they would all be Padawans someday soon, and he was eager to test their skills however he could.

“Any takers? I don't know how many bouts you want to go through, but maybe we should start with one and work our way up?”

"If you don't mind somebody who can see. I'll do it."

Jorrin tossed his stick between his hands, settling with the right. He kept a slightly lowered stance, with his weight distributed evenly. Not specifically versed in swordfighting, his stance was generic, and his swings were slightly inefficient. Imitating the turn of the wrist Horus showed, Jorrin started with a counterclockwise slash at leg level. Then, with a turn of the arm, his blade was brought up, around, and down at what might be an opponents inner arm. He then took a step back. Both his feet were pointing forward, so it was a quick retreat.

Jake stood on the sidelines for now as he rested on his sword sized stick. "Sugai I will take you up on that challenge since I am not a fan of fighting blindfolded. That will mean you will be able to get used to duelling while you can still see and I can duel in the light of day. Is that ok with everyone?" Jake really did not like the idea of duelling blindfolded, he really disliked the dark

“Alright then. If you have the inclination to duel me, tap my stick first, and let's begin. No point in waiting around for the sun to set!”

He settled into a low guard, extending the stick outwards towards only the Force knew who. He expected it to be Nikka out of all of them, but his senses where dulled by the blindfold to a degree that he could just barely fight. It was a good form of training the senses, and although it was not for everyone, he was more than happy to oblige. Tapping the stick first would allow him to know the duel had begun, and this way he could be certain his opponent was ready as well. It was customary to begin a duel with a bow but under the circumstances, he would forgo the ceremonial aspect and go directly to the fighting. Not to mention he might bow directly into one of his clanmates, and that would be cringe-worthy, to say the least.

“I'm assuming it will be you, Nikka, but maybe I'm wrong. It's completely alright to dislike the dark - all sane beings dislike pitch black. Luckily for us I guess I don't count among that number...”

"Jorrin?"

Her head tilted to one side by the unfamiliar name, lips pursed in a confused expression. "Who's that?"

She heard, but... "Light?" She puzzled. "That is one thing I have never understood of you sight-seers. What makes sight so important? Trust your feelings... do not fear what you cannot see." She flushed pink after saying it, having the uncomfortable feeling someone may have said something similar to her before.

"Now..." She took a deep breath, turning to face Horus. "Sugai, Jake, I suppose you two may spar together sighted first... but later, I want you to explain to me, what it is like to have your... visual function." She raised a brow at Horus' assertion that all beings disliked pitch black; there was only the Vision and the Void, those that glowed from the Vision and those that darkened with the Void. Curiously, Jake was both Vision and Void... a young man, who glowed with hope still. Horus and Sugai both sparked with the Vision, and Luy was as bright as the Sun's warmth... that, she could understand.

Her stick swept up from its' neutral position. Despite her demure statements of lack of training.. some things she knew very well. Sticks were tapped, and she chuckled. "Yes. It's me, Horus. Now... shall we begin?" Her grin widened, a playful tilt of her mouth as she awaited the first movement. Her body lowered its' center of gravity in a defensive posture, posture open and surprisingly neutral.

Perhaps she was up for some hard knocks after all.

Jorrin began walking away from Horus. He beckoned for Jake to follow.
"Lets keep our distance from them. Wouldn't want a free-for-all."
He stopped around 50 meters away from Horus' pair. Provided Jake followed, Jorrin took his stance. Both feet faced forward, and were roughly shoulder width. He held his 'sword' in his right arm, keeping it aligned to his right shoulder, and tilted slightly forward. He had a right lead, and his left arm was kept back.

“If there are no further comments... let us begin!”

OOC- The following threads will act as PvP training threads. However, they will be treated as actual PvP and will enforce the rules of said PvP, including the time limit of 48 hours per person. OOC threads will be created so staff are aware that it is still training and won't qualify autohits as kills. The threads are linked below as follows, and the story shall continue there. The winners of the two bouts will have the option to face each other as well in a final plot PvP thread, should you want to do so. The first post, as the rules state, cannot be an attack post but should set your characters up for the following round when attacks begin. Good luck.

//End Thread
