Personality

Programmed with a deep but flowing pitched woman's voice and strange mannerisms due to an unfortunate event, this Droid has more personality than some can handle, let's count them out.

1: SASSY! This droid is full of spirit and bold enough to speak her mind. Be prepared for some quick-witted remarks or some overly dramatic flair to be thrown in. The way she approaches every situation is like 'Look at me', she's always right and honey you better know it.

2: R E S P E C T! Show me what you mean to me! And you better believe she means it too. If you are not her boss, her co-worker or someone she knows, you better believe that you will get mutual respect, drop that and oh boy you're on your own buddy. She's always willing to throw down or get mouthy in the wrongest of times but if you earn her respect, she might give you a little extra sumthin sumthin here or there if ya naa-mean. She takes care of those she calls her own.

3: CARING! Yeah damn right, she's caring but first you're going to have to qualify. If she cares enough she will go to great lengths to help yo ass, advice, cheer-ups, pep-talks and more, you name it. She's your friend and she'll be there for you, droid or not, she has a heart, that's what she's programmed for.

4. DROID! Damn straight, she is a droid, she carries stuff correctly, knows many languages and is capable of solving complex decisions with relative ease because she's a robot. The chances of you not liking her are approximately three thousand seven hundred and twenty to one. She doesn't drop stuff, she moves slower and more carefully, she's a droid and she's not afraid to say it.

5. APPRECIATION! She appreciates everything, food, water, social lives, she was programmed to. Ain't nothing on any planet that is going to stop her from appreciating what it is she has or how 'fine' she is. Believe it.

BIOGRAPHY

Made like any other Protocol droid, most of PB-2DD's time was spent on the outer-rim world of Serenno where she was a he, I won't bore anyone with the details. After being manufactured she served as a translator for one of the heads of a local corporation, needless to say that corporation was not a very good one. There were shady deals here and there, some bad stuff done under the table, the usual suspects of crime and idiocy. Those very acts of stupidity on their part is what leads to the open room shoot off, blaster bolts firing which way off in every direction, in that firefight, the main CPU of PB-2DD was struck and damaged severely, later after she was sent out as scrap.

Before she could be scavenged for parts she was found by a fifteen-year-old girl who in the process of learning to tinker had taken PB-2DD away and began to reconstruct her CPU. Most of the parts that were originally meant to be substituted into the Droids noggin were replaced with repurposed pieces from other droids or machinery but, the parts that did allow the protocol droid to function were somewhat undamaged by the blaster bolt. One of the parts that were used, using the voice of a late-middle-aged wealthy woman's audio-log it was repurposed and became PB-2DD's default voice, couple that with the incomplete remnants of another droids personality mixed in with the damaged one, you're in for a party. The original programming that made the droid receptive and only talks when asked upon was damaged, of course, replaced with another re-purposed scrap. After weeks of work, the final piece in place, PB-2DD was turned on.

She was surprised that PB-2DD had turned into something more humanlike than anything to be helpful, PB-2DD firmly believes that she has independent thoughts but what actually happens is she creates solutions made from in-depth deductions of the situation. The damage to her CPU is irreparable but a little change in the droid's personality is fine, it still functions pretty much the same as a normal Protocol Droid except it has an irrational emotional response.

The funniest thing about this droid though is that, when she was sold to a new buyer, she quit. Like that just walked out of the door and said 'I quit'. Not many droids have that privilege and the business that she was working at wanted to turn her into scrap. However, because of her 'new' personality, she was able to become 'friends' with a few people, hitching a ride here or there. The fact that she walks and her joints have a sort of 'hip sway', to a few people makes her some more alive. She is a droid though, no matter how you splice it.

Model Series Description

Another mediocre entry into the galactic droid market by Best Quality Mechanicals, the PB series is the companies flagship line of budget protocol droids. The PB series has a number of models, but all feature the same basic design and construction. Like most protocol droids, the PB series is universally humanoid in appearance, with bipedal locomotion and a head module that features a pair of audio and oversized-photo receptors. The droids shell is made of thin duraplast- usually coated in a metallic paint- rather than the more expensive metal alloys used by most manufacturers. Beneath the shell is the various internal systems, including a standard 48 hour rechargeable battery and a recessed reader socket for receiving information and programming updates from external drives.

While it's construction is reliable enough, if cheap, the PB's droid brain is where Best Quality Mechanicals core design philosophy ("No corner uncut") really begins to show. The droids protocol subroutine programming is sourced from the outer-rim and is shoddy at best, and its memory banks have space for only a dozen languages and its corresponding cultural nuance data. Even then, its best to have the droids tested by a native expert prior to employing them in an official capacity, as the patchwork programming has been know to get crossed, with some PB's incorrectly storing language information alongside the wrong cultural nuances. The results, while often hilarious, rarely improve diplomatic relations. The droids are also prone to developing unique personalities at an alarming rate- while some customers prefer this as it gives the droids character during regular use, the displayed personalities vary widely, making some of the droids rude and sarcastic as they grow bored of diplomatic drivel.

These limitations mean that many customers prefer to play it safe, employing the droids as servants rather than negotiators, with regular memory wipes ensuring that the PB remains safe to have around guests. Other users repurpose them for general utility or as companion droids, and still other strip out the old droid brain and replace it with a tactical computer, allowing it to operate as a command or operations support droid at a fraction of the cost of a typical tactical droid. This sort of modification would void the PB's warranty- if Best Quality Mechanicals offered one.

Skillset

Language: Can speak up to 10 languages that are programmed in
Careful: All things carried out are not blundered unless inhibited.
Advanced understanding: The droid is constantly learning and because of the droids ability to access and calculate information, she is extremely handy in some situations. Like when you forget a calculator...
