Retto Veraber stepped into the great chamber of the Jedi High Council. While assignments were usually given by these high masters, and while the Tynnan Jedi warrior had never heard of someone requesting a mission, he would aim to regardless. It was important to him that a Jedi be sent to aid on this mission.

Retto bowed before Dewbacca, current Grandmaster of the Jedi Order and a Jedi who held his utmost respect. Slowly rising from his formal bow, Retto spoke firmly but held his tone down out of respect.

"Master Dewbacca, may I have permission to request an assignment I have information on?"

Dewbecca scratched the bottom of his chin which he frequently did when thinking over things, the way of the jedi was not try and gain promotion but to learn at your own pace but many wished to elevate themselves though many different means, some jedi saw this as a source of potential dark side problems but that was rubbish, doing tasks to help people, even if it was to try and elevate your status still served good...

"And what information do you have my friend?"

Retto nodded a slight bow as a sign of gratitude towards Dewbacca for allowing him to continue. Some might not even hear the proposal, but the Jedi Knight predicted the fair and wise Wookiee would let him proceed.

"Pirates have always been a predator on the innocent, Master Dewbacca, this is common knowledge in the Galaxy. A quite succesfull and powerful band of pirates's base is the target of a raid by some self proclaimed 'anti-pirates'. Their attack on this base could cripple the sordid actions of this pirate army, and I believe they could succeed without my aid. However, while my presence could provide great aid to this assault, my primary reason for going lies elsewhere.

I have investigated this anti pirate group to discover if they are really that, and not a rival crew. My investigation let me know that these men are really doing this to prevent the wickedness of the pirates from ruining any more lives. However, what they are doing could end up corrupting their own. With guidance, someone to make sure they show restraint, this could be a moral victory for the innocents of the Galaxy. Absence of guidance could result in these men becoming hypocrites: slaughtering and pillaging these criminals for their own gain, which in the end is of the same ilk as the crimes their target has committed in the past.

I would like to oversee this mission to both help ensure success on the part of these anti-pirates, but more importantly, to ensure they do not massacre the losing party. To make sure that no pirates are executed, and that all of the wealth acquired by the raid goes to help the various victims of the pirates and to prevent further attacks. If these men do not have said guidance, I fear they would become corrupt over time."

Dewbecca was quiet though out the entire story, indeed pirates had taken a sharp upturn in activity since the war begun, mostly due to the fact that the Republic and alsakans could not bring any ships out to help patrol the trade lanes in anything like the strength like they would during peace times.

"This is indeed a noble act to undertake my young friend but I must ask how you even came into contact with these men?"

"They contacted me, Master Dewbacca." Retto said simply. He was not a fan of lies, and knew that any attempt to lie to someone as in tune with the Force as this man would be futile, so he stuck with the truth.

"Through what means, I am not certain, yet they discovered the location where I train my padawan. Outside the Monastery on Coruscant they sent an emissary as well as a way to contact them. I have not made any return contact, wanting approval first. While they merely want my aid to help in their success, I have already explained my full intentions to you Master Dewbacca. I do not wish to undertake in this mission for personal gain Master, and if you see it fit that another in our Order is more suitable for the task than I will gladly surrender responsibility as well as the methods of contacting them."

Retto, being close to his fifties, did not care much about recognition anymore. While he did have it regardless as a skilled lightsaber duelist and warrior, the albino Tynnan did his best to remain humble and behind the scenes. While sometimes it seemed to suggest the opposite, Retto was honest in his declaration that recognition was not one of his objectives and viewed it necesarry that his Grandmaster should know this.

"They contacted you? Strange, do you know why they choose you out of the thousands of jedi there are?"

Dewbecca wanted to give the mission his seal of approval but first he had to get the grips with all sides of the arrangement, or at least the very beginning of the arrangement. Dewbecca owed the jedi who he had been elected to lead to try and work out if they were being put in needless danger.

"It was the first inquiry I made and my initial response. I have heard of the ways of the Ospion Order and first anticipated it as a trap by them, or maybe of the spice lord Eul Tymn that I have been trying to bring to justice. The emissary's answer was that he had heard of my prowess in combat, as well as my strategic abilities, which would prove vital against the pirates. I sensed honesty in his words, and no squeamishness. I do not believe he was lying, or giving a half truth.

However, the fact he knows of me as well as where I train shows that there might be a leak somewhere in the Order, or that our computer systems are not as secure as they should be. Maybe through aiding this effort, I may also gain information that will be the first steps to keeping our intell secure."

Retto was used to being viewed as either an equal or superior, as much of his time was spent observing the younger knights and giving them advice when it was welcomed, but his current standing did not even cross his mind. He was in the presence of one of the Order's greats, and his respect and humility with this great Jedi wasn't a decision so much as an instinct.

"Hmmmm, there are a few rather large assumptions there my friend and I believe we would all bring about similar assumptions based on the information you have but I think being cautious can only aid you which in turn will aid all those this mission will effect, the best scenario would be for you to take a company off jedi knights along with you but that would be a slight case of overkill, I will therefore give you an option. I wish you luck with your mission and you may take with you a 1 or 2 knights to aid you but this is not an order but a piece of advice. No matter how good a jedi gets having one watching your back can only help"

Eating at the back of Dewbecca's mind was the revelation that there computers could be compromised, a startleing and disturbing thing indeed.

Retto nodded. Personally, he would have loved to bring his padawan, Koran Mak, on the journey with him. However he knew that the young Kiffar was not ready for a mission that demanded so much. He also agreed that he was making assumptions, but a paranoid sentient, Retto was prepared for the worst.

"I thank you, Master Dewbacca, for allowing me to go on this mission. I will heed your advice and search through those availiable for one who is capable for a mission of this genre."

"Very good, I wish you well and of course wish you good luck, your mission is a tailor made mission for a jedi, and I have the utmost confidence in your abilities"

Dewbecca stood up from his seat and bowed his head to the knight before leaving though one of the back rooms.

Retto smiled and retired as well, turning and walking to the entry with great confidence. Not only did he have Dewbacca's blessing, he apparently had his encouragement, which meant more to the Jedi knight than the Wookiee could realize. Knowing time was of the essence, he made his steps hasty so he could prepare for the mission as soon as possible.
