I know it's kinda random, but I was looking thru my old games and I came across PSO. For those of you who don't know, PSO is the MMO that made MMO's worth playing. It's modern counterpart, Phantasy Star Universe, has completely desecrated PSO's system and is hardly worth playing. About two years ago, I found a forum posting leading me to a server still running PSO. It takes a hack to set it up (changing the server's hard-coding to the new one) but it runs surprisingly well.

Anybody else out there want to play PSO again? I'll see if I can dig up the links for it :P.

EDIT:
The site is here: http://schtserv.com/ It has everything you need to play hosted there, including the download ^.^

You can download the entire game?

EDIT: I might try, if so. Never played either Online or Universe.

Yeah, that's how I got ahold of it :P. You'll need a disk emulator or a couple of blank CD's. They'll pass you two .iso's (the format of a CD/DVD) which you can either mount with your emulator (I prefer daemon tools) or burn to a CD. I'm not sure about how to burn it to a CD tho.

As kinda a side note, Ranger is ranged dps, Hunter is tank/melee dps, force is mage/healer. Keep that in mind when picking your class ^.^

I don't think I have an emulator... Can you get them free online?

PSU isn't bad, PSO's combat system still beats it hands down. The thing that really killed PSU for me was the lack of Mags (mags are those little things that float over people's shoulders and add combat bonuses). It drove me nuts not being able to raise a mag properly >.> The actual combat isn't all that different, tho it takes a few minutes to get used to the finicky targeting.

The easy trick is grabbing Daemon tools. It's free, take less than 50 megs of storage space, and can mount up to four disk images at a time. It's also simple to use, which is a significant plus ^.^

Ok, I'm downloading stuff now. Daemon wants me to restart comp, but I'll do that later, since I'm uhhh... looking for more music to listen to... >.>

They included a readme thing. That'll tell ya how to finish everything off. The first thing I did was find a cuss hack (removed the censoring). After that, open the file and make a shortcut to the online/offline patch. I suggest you start it offline until you get used to the setup.

When you first spawn, you'll need to talk to everybody in the room, then head to the giant glowy thingy that's what teleporters look like. when you hit enter (it'll say warp) you'll jump to the main base area. Look around here until you get familiar with the item shops (and what the sell) the bank, the hunter's guild, and the med facility. Then go take a quest from the hunter's guild lady. To get to the planet, go thru the giant green door and into the teleporter there, you'll be given a list of places to go (atm it'll only be forest 1 tho). Things'll work pretty simply from there on in.

Alright, this whole bloody post is gonna get redone >.>

From the top, I went thru everything on that site and found that it was a completely different install than the one I was running. I was running the original PSO (chap 1), this new one is called Pso Blue Book (don't ask, I've got no clue), and is based on the original but quite different. Supposedly the interface, combat, and the like is the same, but I'll have to check into that. If it isn't, I'll see about passing the link to a torrent (I'll have to make it >.>) so you can experience it proper.

Right now I'm doing a bit of research. I'll edit this post shortly with a quick update on how to get your 'serial' which is just the server ID code thing. Supposedly you've got to email someone to get everything squared away.

EDIT:
kickass, it's even simpler than I thought. Since you just downloaded the blue book ed, you can simple register thru the site. The relevant page is here:
http://schtserv.com/register.php
after that, all you gotta do is click on the Online.exe (probably easier to shortcut it to the desktop and rename it :P) and patch it up. I recommend all of 'em :P.
