POWER GEMS
Power Gems are a type of rare and potent artifact which has been sought and wielded since ancient times. Formed of an unknown crystalline mineral which has thus far defied all attempts at synthetic replication, Power Gems are believed to be extragalactic in origin, with legends telling of meteors which struck the planets upon which the Gems can be found in the archaic past. Regardless, Power Gems are exceedingly rare, able to be mined on only a handful of known planets, and even then in vanishingly small quantities.
Power Gems, aside from the aesthetic value of their alien luster, are highly coveted for their most famous property. Power Gems are best best known for their ability to disrupt energy fields, including the overlapping power barriers which form most deflector screens. A fully-charged Power Gem is capable of negating the shields of every ship on a given battlefield. Power Gems are typically mounted in a scepter or a pendant, or occasionally a ring, and are controlled either through technological means or by the will of a wielder skilled in the Force. They were also sometimes fitted to the bowsprits of ancient warships, although such craft are not generally used in the present. In general, Power Gems are irregular, faceted crystals about the size of an average humanoid fist; they can be smaller or larger, although this does not seem to have a bearing on their total power.
Power Gems, although incredibly powerful in their effect, are not especially particular. When used, a Power Gem will effect the shields of all ships present, including those of the side wielding it. Also, although potent at first, Power Gems will lose their potency with repeated use; for the first 3 uses, they will entirely disable all shields. In the subsequent 3, they will merely reduce the shield category of the ships present by 1 (heavy becomes medium, medium becomes light, light is entirely disabled). After 6 uses, they will lose the ability to effect shields in any meaningful way. Power Gems are ineffective against planetary shields, as the power output of such defenses is generally too great to dampen effectively.
Power Gems have been used by kings, conquerors and pirates throughout the ages; famously, the Pirates of Iridium used several such Gems until their destruction at the hands of the Jedi. Overall, Power Gems are exceedingly rare, with even mostly depleted Gems being difficult to get hold of.

INTENT
To bring an artifact from Legends into our site's fanon. Power Gems would be an item which can theoretically be claimed by anyone, although the difficulty of attaining one should be high.
