DESCRIPTION
The Praetor II-class battlecruiser is a gargantuan Imperial-era capital ship which was originally designed and built by Kuat Drive Yards as a follow on to their original Praetor class, a similarly mammoth warship built prior to and during the Clone Wars. Unrestricted by Republic-era limitations on the armament of such vessels, KDY set out to build something befitting the class's size and name, although unfortunately they were unable to make a significant enough improvement to prevent the Praetor II from becoming yet another footnote in the history of warship design.

The Praetor II is an imposing vessel, 3 times the length of a standard Imperial-I-class star destroyer at 4.8 kilometers. Classified as a battlecruiser under the Anaxes War College system, it requires a crew of 110,000 to operate efficiently, with space for up to 14,000 passengers and consumables for up to 3 years in space. The ship is heavily armored and shielded, although its armament is disappointing considering its great size, including 60 quad heavy turbolasers, 40 dual medium turbolasers, 10 dual heavy ion cannons, 30 dual medium ion cannons and 10 tractor beam emitters. Though this is easily more firepower than a star destroyer, it was not considered enough of an advantage to justify the enormous cost of building and operating very many of these impressive ships.

Though the Galactic Empire did commission several Praetor IIs into its fleet, the decision was ultimately made to suspend all new construction after only a handful had been built, with resources instead being diverted to the star destroyer program, as well as the upcoming dreadnaught design which would eventually become the Executor class. Those Praetor IIs which were built ended up leading relatively cushy lives, being mostly assigned to guard important worlds in the Core sectors. After the Galactic Civil War, a number actually survived to be absorbed into the fledgling New Republic Navy, although most were quickly sold off and/or scrapped due to their ruinously high crew requirements and operating costs.

In the present day, Praetor II-class battlecruisers are exceedingly rare, those that still exist mostly having been mothballed or relegated to being immobile hulks in planetary orbit rather than true warships. A lucky few have been repurposed as museum ships, and the Historical Battleship Preservation Association is known to have a particularly well preserved - though thoroughly disarmed - example as part of their collection. Only the vary wealthiest sectors possess the resources to operate these vessels as part of operational fleets in the present day.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Praetor II-class battlecruisers are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities. Even then, they are ridiculously expensive to operate; only a relatively large faction or particularly wealthy government would be able to afford it without swiftly bankrupting themselves. An individual would stand no chance.

INTENT
To create a standard battlecruiser, and to bring a ship from Legends canon into our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
Praetor II-class battlecruisers are large capital ships with heavy weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. Factions may only possess vessels of this type with the close scrutiny and approval of staff.
