DESCRIPTION​

The Praetorian-class frigate is an archaic model of capital ship which was once manufactured and sold by the now long defunct Rendili Hyperworks corporation. Originally developed for the Republic Navy prior to the Ruusan Reformations, the Praetorian was one of the most plentiful warships in Republic service, and is credited with popularizing the iconic "hammerhead" profile used by Republic and New Republic ships up to the present day.

The Praetorian is the prototypical modern war frigate, 280 meters in length with a crew of 770 beings, plus up to 900 passengers, 10,000 tons of cargo and consumables for up to 8 months in space. It was a relatively weak armament by modern standards, consisting of 2 light turbolaser turrets, plus 2 quad medium laser turrets and a pair of tractor beam projectors. Not optimized for direct offense, it is equipped with hangar space for 12 starfighters, plus 4 shuttles, giving it the ability to strike from a distance. If subjected to a direct engagement, however, the ship has decent shields and a remarkably durable hull, giving it excellent survivability even with the shields down. In their original roll, Praetorians were used as escorts, screening vessels and scouts.

Although massively obsolete by modern standards, Praetorian frigates can still be found in service, hanging on with backrocket system and sector navies, as well as mercenaries and pirates. As the Galaxy increasingly mobilizes for war, more and more of these antiques have seen themselves taken out of deep storage and renovated to combat readiness.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. Praetorian-class frigates are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.

RESTRICTIONS​

Praetorian-class Frigates are large capital ships with heavy weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. A faction would be required to obtain and crew a ship of this size, or a group of at least 2 players who work together regularly.
