CONTRUUM
1800 Hours

Contruum is known for fighting off invaders time and time again. That is why we won't be invading. But some people are so ready to rise up that they will try to pick a fight at the earliest opportunity. In this case it is a simple local mob presence. Take them out so that they can't cause pointless conflict. Do not leave any trace that we killed any of their people though even though they are criminals with history of villainy.

Contruum is a strong and independent planet. Its system has a moderate ship yard and plenty of resources that will benefit the Mandalorian cause. Its people defend against invasion making it strong against the Empire but also something we cannot face head on in conquest. For these reasons it will be up to a select group of Mandalorians to travel to the system and help with making good relations with the people there and dealing with other issues to make them allies of the Mandalorian People.

Corrine Eldar was on one such mission. Locals who were upset with the invading presence took to the streets to voice their aggression. She and her partner Leandros Solus were to make sure they dispersed...without killing any of them. She was on good terms with Clan Solus; her husband's partners were of that same clan. She'd worked with them for over a year.

As always, Corrine was dressed in her armored Beskar'gam. Given to her after her father's passing, she colored the iron skin red in honor of her family. It hadn't come close to fitting her at the time, and she had to modify it heavily to fit her frame. But now it was just as much a part of her as her own skin. Making sure to stay safe herself, on either hip she wore "Strill" blaster pistols and on her back a "Shriek-hawk" Blaster Rifle. Since Corrine did not own her own ship, they were flying in his. Or at least one of the Mandalorian ships they borrowed. She didn't bother to ask Leandros the technicalities.

Leandros was helping his clan and his people plant the seeds of expansion around the galaxy. Contruum was a way for the Mandalorians to gain a foothold outside of their home system. It was a fitting choice, too; the people of Contruum are stubborn, fierce fighters who have remained unconquered for now. Those traits would be vital to ensure that the next generation of Mandalorians will not allow a repeat of Medriaas without the Empire suffering grave consequences.

Leandros wore his usual golden beskar’gam, the helmet having since been repaired since his romp on Kashyyyk during the Life Day celebrations. His face, however, still had to heal, and the grisly scar trailing diagonally from the top left of his forehead to his right cheek was just now beginning to go pink with fresh skin. The area was sore to the touch, but otherwise fine aside from aesthetics. He carried his usual Strill blaster pistol on his hip and had his Shriek-hawk blaster rifle slung across his back. He carried his vibrosword as well on the other side of his pistol.

Today’s mission, however, meant that he had to avoid using these weapons. Or at least without leaving an obvious trace that he did. A local mob has surfaced in resistance to the arrival of the Mandalorians. He was here with an Eldar clanswoman as his partner. He had no issues with Clan Eldar, and if every female in the clan looked like the one with him, then, well, he was quite alright with having closer ties. He found himself staring at the woman for quite a bit during the trip over.

The duo landed at a spaceport, not far from where the protest was taking place. Leandros turned to his partner, sticking his helmet on, and spoke up, ”Rala mhi gotal'ur ibic nakine. Gaanynir a kisol adate o'r troan bal tengaanar etid mhi tid'ica acar bal val malyasa'yr gev ibic hyu'beh.” His tone was casual, as if going to break up protests was an idle weekend activity. For a warrior of Clan Solus, being told to disperse a crowd without much violence was, in his mind, kind of outrageous. Violence and battle was how his people honored Kad Ha’rangir! Hopefully one of these protestors would put up some kind of a fight.

Still, they had to be careful to not leave much evidence of violence. It would not do the clans well to have relations ruined because somebody got a little trigger happy.

Leandros made his way out of the spaceport, listening for the sounds of a mob. After a short trip, he saw up ahead a gathering of about twenty-six pissed-off people gathered, looking like they were ready to break out into a fight at any given moment. As crowds go, this one was pretty small. However, these things had a way of snowballing out of control, so he did not count out the fact that this could just be the beginning. He looked at his comrade, then jerked a thumb towards the growing crowd.

” Partaylir, nayc jinamte ta'dbarju'anr.”

The ride over was annoying to say the least. She kept noticing Leandros staring at her. He of course didn't know her tomboy-ish attitude and her dislike of being treated like a female. It prompted her to rudely ask him "What!?" out the blue and throw him an angry glare to go along with it. Things were already off to a bad start between the two.

”Rala mhi gotal'ur ibic nakine. Gaanynir a kisol adate o'r troan bal tengaanar etid mhi tid'ica acar bal val malyasa'yr gev ibic hyu'beh.”

Corrine was taken aback by the man's sudden voice in Mandalorian. It had been a long, long time since someone spoke their true tongue to her. Her and her clan spoke with some mild greetings and threw in a few choice words every now and then, but they never spoke the language. It had always been too dangerous. With the war on and all that calling attention to their Mandalorian roots could spell the Sith to come after them. It wasn't ideal to say the least.

"Sounds like a plan!" she'd respond back to him in their shared language.

Clicking her own visor on she waited a moment after the hiss of the suit locking together for the HUD screen to visualize and stepped off the ship after her partner. She walked with purpose, but made sure to keep her eyes open for any signs of trouble. She didn't want to draw her gun as their mission was to make sure this was done peacefully. Still, it wouldn't stop her training that had been ingrained into her which made sure her hands were never hat far from the weapons' grip. It didn't take them long at all to find one of the growing mobs. To which, she was thankful had not gotten much over two dozen. For now, it seemed this would be an easy mission.

” Partaylir, nayc jinamte ta'dbarju'anr.”

Corrine smirked under her visor, "I remember. Don't worry about me. I can handle myself." At no point did she want his pity. Or his protection. She was a warrior just as he was. Today she'd prove that to him.

I had fixed it just before you responded, but I went and changed it again to yours since you went through the trouble of giving it it's own thread. Thanks for doing so btw

Silence was all that Leandros replied to Corinne’s outburst when she had finally had enough of his ogling during the ride over. Normally, he was not one to beat around the bush, though, perhaps, he would like to beat around this particular bush. The thought back during the flight had elicited a small chuckle from him, but nothing else. He remained silent for the rest of their trip aside from the occasional muttering in Mando’a to his god, Kad Ha’rangir. She seemed upset with him. Perhaps she wanted to fight?

The Eldar clanswoman with him seemed enthusiastic to respond in their mother tongue, given the tone with which she responded. Leandros thought nothing of it – he typically spoke Mando’a, especially around his clansmen. The Resol’nare demanded that he do so, and who was he to deny the will of Kad Ha’rangir? The walk from the ship to the site of protest was not particularly eventful; several workers stopped and stared, but, for the most part, Leandros and Corinne went about their business unopposed.

”Mirdir gar cuyir cataye. Norac bat likr, Ni tid'ica,” he eventually said as they made their way to the crowd. He felt he owed some kind of explanation to his previous apparent insult to the woman back on the ship. ”Narir va mirdir bic malyasa'yr butar gar.” With a listless shrug of his shoulder, he explained himself as adequately as he wanted. Not like there was any other motive behind the act. He just simply thought that she was pretty.

With that, Leandros got within a few meters of the crowd, raising his hands as a gesture of peace. Before he could even speak, their arrival was met with a few of boo’s and some hurried speech in this planet’s native cant. Leandros kept his hands up, raising his voice to speak to the crowd. ”People of Contruum,” he said, earning their silence, ”We’re not here for violence. Why do you protest the arrival of our people?”

Though their response was generally distrustful, Leandros was at least glad that they did not immediately resort to violence. He wondered how they would respond to his question.

”Mirdir gar cuyir cataye. Norac bat likr, Ni tid'ica. ”Narir va mirdir bic malyasa'yr butar gar.”

His outburst was not all unexpected. Corrine knew she was pretty. She hated it. She cut her hair short, never wore makeup, tried to always be in her Beskar'gam so no one would see what was underneath. She didn't like people thinking of her as a woman. But her response was always quick and instantly offputting. "I'm married." Boom. That should get him off her back.

Whether he had a response to that and chose not to, or maybe he actually accepted her answer, he turned his attention to the crowd. They began shunning them even without a word from their part. It was rude to say the least. Expected of course. But still rude.

”People of Contruum, We’re not here for violence. Why do you protest the arrival of our people?”

"We don't want you here!" one would shout.

"Go back to your own planet!" cried another.

Corrine stepped forward and spoke now in Basic for the first time that day, "Please. We're only here to peacefully come to an alliance. We are not the enemy here."

Her words were responded with a circling object (a bottle of some sort) that came out from the crowd unexpectedly and broke against Corrine's armor. She backed up as if she were hit and covered her eyes to avoid any glass from getting in them. It was foolish of course since she was completely covered in her armor. It was just a reflex, but luckily she wasn't hurt.

"Everyone please!" she tried to get through to them again. "There is no need for hostility!"

Leandros offered a curt ”Pu'yida. Garay va gotal'ur gar e katkta cataye,” in response to her marriage statement. Oh well. By the time he finished his sentence, they had arrived to the growing crowd. At least he got the last word in.

He kept his hands up as the crowd rejected his claim and refused to answer his question. This was a people so fiercely rebellious that they simply would not listen to someone who they believed was some kind of foreign invader. They would have to prove in some way that the Mandalorians could be trusted to keep Contruum free from the galactic oppression and tyranny of the Empire, new or old.

Corinne stepped forward and offered her own plea, hoping to assuage their fears and apprehensions. The crowd was generally receptive to her claims, beginning to quiet down a bit as the murmurs amongst themselves began. This was good! The pair were finally breaking through to the obstinate protestors. That is, of course, until one particularly bold man stepped forward.

He looked to be about his mid-thirties in age, with a beard that had not seen grooming in quite some time. His hair was generally unkempt and he seemed to be the perfect type for some random rioting, even if he did not really care about who or what the issue at hand was. He pushed his way through the mob and pointed at the two Mandalorians, raising his voice above the dull roar.

”And why should we care about who the enemy is? You guys helped the Sith before, who’s to say you’re not prepping us for an invasion?!”

The man had an impact on the crowd. The murmurs behind him grew in volume, eventually returning to the crowd’s previous state of being noisy. His remarks were met with a few “Yeah!” or derogatory claims about the Mandalorians being Sith lapdogs. Leandros piped up, hoping to calm the man down. ”We were not servants to the Empire! Clan Solus remained independent and loyal only to its people! We are not-“

His sentence was cut short by the bearded man putting his hands on Leandros and shoving him back a little. This caught Leandros off guard, but he did not retaliate. That was not what the Resol’nare dictated he do. This was no combat. Instead, he raised his hands again and pleaded above the shouting of the crowd.

”We are not here to fight you! What will it take to prove that we are here to defend against the Imperials?!”

His patience was beginning to wear thin.

”And why should we care about who the enemy is? You guys helped the Sith before, who’s to say you’re not prepping us for an invasion?!”

”We were not servants to the Empire! Clan Solus remained independent and loyal only to its people! We are not-“

Corrine worriedly looked at Leandros as he was shoved back. Her first instinct was to run over and give the man a peace of her mind. By way of her fist. That would get the message across. The wrong message...but still. She couldn't fight. But would Leandros? Would he hit the man? Would he fight back? Instead he just passively backed up and continued to plead with them. Corrine let out a sigh of relief.

”We are not here to fight you! What will it take to prove that we are here to defend against the Imperials?!”

"Please," she begged the man. "We are not a threat." Turning then to everyone she raised her voice. "The Empire is the real threat. The Imperium has ruled over the galaxy with an iron fist. My ancestors....they helped establish that. It's something our people deeply regret." Her voice was full of sorrow, but she continued.

"Let us help make it right. The Imperium bombed Meriadas. Innocent people. Like you. They were farmers. They had families. They had loved ones. And they were shot down from the sky with no warning. There was no fight. There was no warning." Corrine made sure to emphasize the word when she repeated herself. "We are here to make sure something like that never happens again. Please...please let us help you."

Her words seemed to have a calming effect on the masses. The plead did exactly as she planned. Not everyone would raise their arms up to support the cause, but at least they would stop fighting and let things happen the way they were going. Corrine wished she could have inspired them a little more to get aid in their endeavor, but for now this would do. As it stood, the crowd didn't appear to want to keep fighting. Would they return to her homes, probably. But since she hadn't asked them of this there was always the possibility of something going wrong. For now though, the violence had been silenced.

Corrine looked over at Leandros and wondered what his thoughts on the matter were. Would he have any final words for them? Would he try to push the matter further...?

Leandros watched the crowd react to his words, then allowed Corinne to speak her piece. He had to admit, she certainly put her heart out on her sleeve for the citizens of Contruum to see. Her words rang true; the Empire bombed Medriaas, annihilated the civilians there, and tried to cover it up. Few people outside of the clans even knew of the massacre. She appealed to their emotions, apologizing for what her ancestors did in the centuries past. Leandros lowered his hands, placing them on his hips authoritatively. His partner seemed to be having a lasting effect on the crowd.

After her speech was over, about seventeen people decided that they were satisfied and went on their own ways, dispersing and breaking up the mob. Only about seven remained, though they were quiet and seemed to be thinking. None of them appeared outwardly hostile, nor did they appear friendly. They looked, for the most part, rather neutral. The groups looked at each other for a few moments, with Leandros looking towards his partner, wondering if she had any more. He met her gaze and, figuring that she was now waiting on him to say something, decided to speak up again.

”We will work with your people to resist Imperial influence. Never again will you fear invasion so long as Mandalorians are welcome here. Together, we will stand united against the true threat. Against the people who thought that genocide and atrocity was a way of pacifying a people.”

He looked at those gathered, those remaining being few enough in numbers to personally make eye contact – though they could not see his eyes – and continued. ”Never again will the people of Contruum fear the threat of attack from the outside. That is the promise we make to you.”

The group seemed relatively satisfied with his words. They looked at each other and just nodded a few times, then turned back towards the Mandalorians, giving a thumbs-up in response. They lingered around, but no longer seemed interest in protesting. Leandros looked at Corinne, giving a light shrug. ”Ni... mirdir mhi cuyir narir olar.” He looked to see if she had anything further to say, but it seemed like they had pacified this crowd in short order.

Corrine turned hopeful eyes over to the crowd to see how her partner's plea reached them. Overall it seemed things played out rather well. She'd noticed some of crowd left after her speech and his seemed to tame the rest. They didn't really seem to want to leave as the others had, but if they weren't a threat anymore than all was well.

”Ni... mirdir mhi cuyir narir olar.”

In Mandalorian she replied, "I think so as well. Let'a head back and report this."

Giving him a smile he wouldn't see behind her visor she would turn away from the crowd and start heading back to their ship. She was glad to avoid any struggle, though getting into a fight with the mob would have been fun too. But at least she could report back to the higher ups that the mission was a success.
