Progressive Party

The Progressive of Progressive Democracy (PPD) is a minor political party that has caught on on several Core worlds who are in
favour of further cooperation in the Republic. There are fringe supporters in the Free Worlds Alliance, but the main support exists only on the Core Worlds. The PPD is represented by the symbols of a red fist, symbolising the strength of democratic cooperation, and a rose, symbol for both peace and social politics.

Party Platform

In the most general sense of the word, the Progressives want to combine a strong Republic that protects civil rights and social justice, with the promise of liberty and self-sustainment through mutual cooperation. In terms of the military, they wish to empower every world with the possibility to defend their own systems, while also pursuing diplomatic efforts to maintain peace and stability in the Galaxy. They do not favour a strong Supreme Chancellor, however would like to see that the Galactic Senate is responsible and capable of supporting a galactic system of social security, and the Chancellor as the protector of Civil Rights. The PPD is strictly Democratic: they wish popular elections in every layer of government, from the Senate down to the City Major. They see this as the only means of preventing tyranny and corruption from entering galactic politics.

The PPD is also very atheistic: they welcome the efforts of the Jedi to provide protection to civilians and heal the sick and help the poor, but they see that any political interference by the Order would lead to another galactic conflict that could unhinge the delicate balance. They wholly denounce the Sith, who they deem responsible for exactly that which they seek to prevent: bloodshed, atrocities, and the violation of basic civil rights.

Criticism

Some people deem the PPD to be 'too pacifist', and naive in the face of returning galactic conflict at the hands of the Sith. Others say that the meddling of the Senate in social affairs is an overreach of their authority, and that liberty and self-government are threatened by those efforts to place galactic policies on planetary governments. Furthermore, the PPD has been scolded and rejected by many of the affluent 'intelligentsia', because it attracts a lot of 'environmentalists, do-gooders, and charity workers'.

Intent

To provide a less radical party between the right Populists and the left Centrists, as well as flavour for political characters.
