(I cant remember if I've seen something like this here or not)

elucidator_sword_and_dark_repulser_sword__sao__by_kksjason2001-d8d6a6s.jpg

(These would be the two that my character would use, in longsword form.)
tumblr_mua6mtiGul1skqk4so1_400.gif

(Same two as above, but in lightsaber mode.)

Affiliation:
Commonly seen with Force users.

Ownership: This nameless workshop character of mine, anyone else that wants to use it.

Intent: To give my character, as well as any others, an interesting option for combat that combines a lightsaber and a sword. It is for those that prefer the weight and properties of a sword over those of a lightsaber, giving a different approach to combat than with a normal lightsaber. The weapon also gives an interesting advantage against armor, as most armor is designed to resist either energy OR physical attacks, but not commonly both. As such, combat situations will be much more interesting, as the user can switch between modes at the touch of a button and writers will need to be more descriptive, as well as imaginative.

Model: PS-1 Arming Sword

Type: Lightsaber/Hand-and-a-half Arming Sword

Size: Blade length for both of mine will be 40", handle of the hilt 8.5". They each weigh approx. 5.2-5.5 lbs.

Composition: Blades and hand-guards made of a Cortosis-weave, the hilts made of Durasteel. The internals are located within the hilt, and are comprised of standard lightsaber internals, as well as a circuit system designed to bring energy conducted by the Cortosis weave back into the energy cell, giving it a self-sustaining property without hurting the effectiveness.

Description: The PS-1 Arming Sword is a sword, which when activated, can have the blade encased in plasma, giving it the properties of a lightsaber. It's purpose is to give users the option to switch between a sword or lightsaber, which can help depending on the situation. The internal components are the same as a lightsaber. The plasma is contained in a magnetic field generated from inside the blade, giving the lightsaber mode a blade-like shape, which can have advantages over a straight cylinder of plasma generated by the normal lightsaber. The design can vary as much as a normal lightsaber's can, but does require things like the blade to be made of Cortosis-weave or phrik alloy. The hilt is where the kyber crystal is housed, as well as all of the other plasma-generating components. Because of this, the weapons are only seen with individuals that have access to kyber crystals and cannot be mass-produced in some place like a factory.

(Seeing that this is my first Tech profile, please be nice :) However, any and all constructive criticism and suggestions are welcome!)

@Killtec just going to say why should this be a thing? I mean when you already have a lightsaber is there a point in this other than making a fancy looking sword? Just a opinion question really I just don't see a purpose for such a thing nothing against you or it.

Also wanted to add that this will lose the major advantage a lightsaber has, being its weightlessness. Having a core of phrik or cortosis would make the blade quite a bit slower and easier to maneuver around.

It looks quite redundant. Why not just get two weapons? Or just make it a force imbued weapon instead of a wierd hybrid sword.

Edit: I guess force imbued can be switched with sith alchemy if you like that more.

@Benvenu7, I'll update the template in a bit with why.
@Kaane, thanks.
@FinnSimmons, I decided to make this because as far as I've read about Force-imbued weapons, like a Force Sword (my original plan), they are at a disadvantage in comparison to lightsabers, and (if I remember right) take a long time, as well as lots of both physical and Force energy and power, to make.

While I can see the advantage of having this... it is never mentioned in the intent section.

But before I get to it's advantage; this appears to be a general concept, allowing for flexibility in the build. I think that this information should be specific to your character's item. If approved and it is readily available to many characters; people will automatically apply their own look/picture to the weapon.

Questions
How long is the weapon (your character's blade)?
How much does it weigh?
How do both components of a vibro sword and a lightsaber fight into this one weapon's hilt?

Advantage
Many armors are designed to primarily deflect energy OR physical damage. Having the ability to switch between the two can give the wielder an advantage in a fight.

So... Not believing that you can fit both components in the weapons hilt - and that lightsabers are very Force user central (and would be frowned upon if such a bastardized version of the elegant weapon was mass manufactured). Is there a way to make this weapon have a battery or charge that would temporarily allow it to produce energy similar to a lightsaber? To get it to be approved, it would probably have to be a short time span, and not be nearly as powerful as a lightsaber (which is dedicated to the functionality that it provides).

Since Phrik is not the most common material in the Star Wars universe the price of one of these weapons would already be quite high I assume.
Also the fact that you want it to combine the Phrik with a laser sword means there has to be quite some thermal insulation going on to prevent the plasma inside the light saber blade to heat up your sword to temperatures where it becomes un-wiedable. On top of that you would probably have to separate the blade from the plasma somehow. Otherwise the energy cell will get depleted in no time.
Not trying do be mean here, but I think I am not alone with my critizism.

@Darkwasp, thank you! I'll update it as soon as I can get back on a computer.
@FinnSimmons, now that I'm gonna break it down into my character's specifics, as per Darkwasp's advice, he'll use Cortosis. As far as the energy cell being depleted though, I was thinking that the Cortosis-weave blade would be able to absorb enough of the energy to transfer it back to the cell (although I'm unsure of what kind of electronics I'd need to put in to accomplish that), thus being self-sustaining.

Updated with changes, removed Vibrosword components in favor of the Lightsaber attributes.

"One-handed longsword" isn't a thing. If it's only one-handed, then it's an arming sword. If it is made able to be used with two hands, then it is a longsword, either of a specific type like the 'bastard sword' or hand-and-a-half sword (made to be equally useable one or two handed) or most normal longswords (which are primarily two-handed, but can be used one-handed, just not the best).

Proper terminology is important. >.<

This may just be a personal thought but I think we have enough 'unique' light sabers.

@Gaiaverse, a valid opinion for sure, but I feel like the others were just fancy designs. Mine is an actual originally designed piece of tech.

Yes, but why?

What will be gained with combing a lightsaber and sword, when s lightsaber is already a sword. Also, I don't think a vibrosword imbued with a lightsaber is possible even in the OC and EU.

The only way I see this working is by making it a top of the line vibrosword not...whatever this is.

Why? Because, I wanted a better version of a Force Sword, that didn't take mastery in the Force to make. While there are some disadvantages to using an actual sword, in comparison to the small hilt with a plasma beam shooting out, there are also several advantages. Like, for instance, combining both physical and energy-based attacks, by being able to switch between the two at the push of a button. And besides, it is no longer a vibrosword. Instead of having the internals of both a lightsaber and a vibro-weapon, thanks to some insight provided above by Darkwasp, I've removed the 'vibro' parts and just kept the lightsaber ones. So, while it isn't nearly as "sharp" as a vibrosword due to loss of ultrasonic vibration generator, it is still a viable option in the field of metal swords, due a cortosis-weave blade. The plasma-coated blade mechanic that I've added just opens up more options for Force-users, as I've seen there are several on the site that either use both lightsabers and vibroswords, or prefer the weight of a sword over the weightlessness of a lightsaber. I'm going for both convenience and functionality, as well as giving writers a little nudge to be more creative than they already are in PvP situations, by making them think of possibilities that one using this weapon could have.

Neglecting the fact that stuff like this doesn't really have any basis at all in Star Wars tech (the combination, I mean), based on something you've said before, and how you're talking it's both a metal sword and a plasma blade, seems like just some goofy way to get around the issue of shields. "Oh, your shield blocks energy weapons? Ha-ha, mine has an actual sword blade too! Oh, yours blocks hard physical objects?" *slice*

If somebody wants their character to have a sword rather than a lightsaber, they can do that. Either with Cortosis/Phrik, or by imbuing it with the Force. If they want a lightsaber, they can have a lightsaber. If they want both, they can use one in either hand and go Jar'kai with it. This just looks like a weird special snowflake that says "look at me I'm awesome and both at the same time and I can defeat all your armour/shields without any problem yay."

You say you want a lightsaber variant that doesn't require Force mastery to make. Thing is, you basically need to be a Force user to do so anyway. Only the Jedi and the Sith have access to both the materials and the recipe to craft lightsabers in the first place, and I don't think they are very friendly with sharing those sorts of secrets. Considering you also have to be a Force user to craft one anyway.

Another thing you need to keep in mind, do we see this sort of tech in the movies? No, we don't, and frankly I feel this sort of tech would have had a major impact if it were canon.

Seeing as Rippers are banned for this exact reason, i really dont see why it would be allowed in sword form.

Lightsabers are not weightless. I've said this approximately twenty times in this timeline alone. The Original Trilogy, The Force Awakens, and Star Wars Rebels, all show and state quite clearly that LIGHTSABERS HAVE MASS AND WEIGHT equivalent to a sword of a similar size and shape.

Also, seeing as how @Cainhurst Crow recently tried to produce something quite similar, except also fusing a gun into his lightsaber katana blaster thingamajig, I'm not going to approve this. Not just due to the concerns voiced by other players, like @Elijah Brockway, @Shalken and @Arclight, but also because the basic foundation of the idea is flawed, as the cortosis blade would crumble and be reduced to graphite and break a few minutes after activating the plasma blade. A cortosis sword can fence against a lightsaber. Not be immersed in a plasma stream for prolonged periods of time.
