DESCRIPTION​

The Quartermaster-class transport is a light freighter which was originally manufactured by the Corellia StarDrive corporation, several millennia before the present day. Originally developed to fulfill a Republic Navy Logistical Command requirement during what would turn out to be among the last of the Sith Wars, the Quartermaster was made to be cheap, simple and sturdy, design criteria which it accomplished admirably, albeit at the cost of almost all else.

The Quartermaster-class transport is essentially a duranium box, to which are bolted an asymmetrical cockpit, a bank of engines, a class 3 hyperdrive, quarters for its 2 crew and 10 passengers, and not much else. The ship lacks shields and weapons, as well as many creature comforts found on more modern freighters.

After its service to the Old Republic, the Quartermasters were sold off on the surplus market, and are widely regarded as having jump-started the freelance cargo market in peacetime. The type's simple, easy to repair construction has allowed some examples to serve into the present day, although they are becoming rarer as time goes on.
