I was wondering if anyone could give me any information in regards to how long hyperspace travel takes. Also, could someone explain to me the whole hyperdrive rating/class thing? Like if you have a starfighter, what would the rating/class most likely be?

The d20 system's core rulebook (which I have and can provide on digits if asked) has some rough outlines of how long hyperspace travel takes. I generally just go with "Hyperspace moves at the speed of plot", though, unless the timing is itself important.

Precisely. I mean, if you really want to break it down...

Wookieepedia said:
In reality though, lightspeed, or traveling through hyperspace with a class 1.0 hyperdrive motivator was actually over one hundred thousand times faster than the speed of light

Wookieepedia said:
In numbers, the hyperdrive allowed travelers to traverse a galaxy spanning over 120,000 light years in only a few hours or days, the exact travel time depending on a number of factors including destination, point of origin, route, and class of hyperdrive.

100,000 times the speed of light... 120,000 light years... so it could take you 1.2 years to cross from one FAR side of the galaxy to the other with a class 1 hyperdrive. 6 months probably from edge of populated space to the other edge of populated space. I assume that the major hyperdrive routes go even faster, though.

120,000 light years can take just a few hours depending on the class of hyperdrive and " health" of the route- but one has to also factor in space phenomena- so say it takes 3 hours to get from coruscant to ( a) Coruscant to ( b) though closer actually takes longer due to pockets of gravity wells/debris field shifting into the lane ion storms etc etc...basically " mountain miles"

going off lore the more turbulance the longer the trip, such as into the unknown regions takes a LOOOOOOOOONG time to get anywhere even close outside of a few known routes because of the turbulance caused by the per-merging galaxies

that all said it's better to keep it on more of a plot-scale with some factoring of conditions more than hard numbers as the variables are too many to be practical in a setting like ours. which is a big reason we have the " moving fleets" rules when shifting things around the galaxy en'mass as stand alone RP events to compensate for the days to weeks it would take to do as such.

The canon/scientific evidence suggests anywhere from several hundred million to several billion c (the speed of light.) That's based on relativistic measures, the ICS, etc. Wookiee is wrong on the math, so if you wanted hard numbers, don't bother with them and actually look at the sources, which all present travel much faster than 100,000c would suggest.

Even without preplanned hyperspace lanes, several million times c (or able to cross the galaxy in a matter of days) is reasonable. Of course, you can always handwave that away for the sake of plot. As others have said, that's really for the best. I've RPed scenarios where FTL is barely a few times the speed of light, so plot, etc. takes precedence.

It's worth noting that navigating the Galactic core is almost impossible for non FS because of the phenomena in there. Or, from what I've read. I imagine it's not impossible if you know what planet you're going to or from, but searching planets in the core for unknown bases would be nearly impossible for non-Force users, I imagine. So, that'd make travel through core more time intensive even for Force users, I imagine.

You have an active imagination.

Carry on!

I need to grab my thesaurus and get more ...imaginative.
