Thread Prefix: Non-Sentient
Name: Raksasa
Biology: The Raksasa are large winged reptiles indigenous to much of galactic north space, Raksasa are usually about 5 feet tall and 15 feet long head to tail with a wing span of about 15 feet and weight up to 1.5 tons. Raksasa are amazing flyers, not only can they fly for days on end without breaks they can reach maximum straight flying speeds of about 30 mph and diving speeds of 70 finally when flying they can carry up to about 500 lbs extra weight making them fantastic mounts. Raksasa are seen in a wide rang of colours ranging from dark red to an olive green.
These creatures are species designed for space migration and travel, their larger head functions as a breathing helmet and their thick hide functions as a space suit keeping the vacuum of space out and keeping the body warm, Raksasa live on average anywhere from 200 to 700 human years and will only every be able to preform one of theses migrations once in a lifetime and they don’t usually migrate unless they need to. When flying through space they trigger a glan which essentially shuts off all need for food and water for hundreds of years so that their able to make their long voyages.
Internally the Raksasa are very basic but something that stands out is their stomach which can digest even the most potent of toxins breaking it down into sugars, this is why they have such a wide range they’re very adaptable to new environments being able to adapt to the native flora instantly.
Breeding: Raksasa breed like most animals in the galaxy with a male and a female, each pod of Raksasa has their own breeding season which correlates with their respective homeworlds varying on the seasons and rotation of the planet, usually though it’s in the coldest months. These breeding seasons consist of the males being put into contests by females to judge the best mate some examples of these contests are flying contests and nest building never fighting, fighting amongst Raksasa is very rare. Raksasa mate for life meaning when a female first finds a suitable mate they won’t find another one the next year they will stay with the same one and for their lifetime trying to produce children each second mating season. Raksasa reproduce via internal fertilization and do not lay eggs rather give birth, pregnancy lasts about 10 earth months ‘till a female Raksasa gives birth to anywhere from 1 to 4 young.
Diet: Despite their vicious appearance the Raksasa are herbivores preferring grasses, because of their low energy diet Raksasa eat almost their entire day despite this they don’t need to in fact Raksasa can survive without food for almost 20 days and can survive without water for 40. The only exception to their herbivorous diet is that on some worlds Raksasa have been seen eating bivalves off of rocks due to their low protein intake.
Behaviour/Temperament: Raksasa are very very docile creatures, Raksasa are more then okay to have people near them but they’re also okay with people riding them, this fact alone is why so many cultures use them as transport, Raksasa quickly bond with their owners, they understand their owners and learn about their owners to the point they often know what they’re going to do long before they do it. Within a Raksasa pod Raksasa treat each other like family and care very dearly about members of their clan, if someone or something tries to harm one they will be attacked by the rest of the clan. Fighting among Raksasa is very rare even between clans, clans show one another a mutual respect not feeding on their lands and giving them space, clan on clan fighting is just as rare as clan infighting.
Weaknesses: Raksasa can be very naive due to their laid back and trusting nature and this can often get single Raksasa or even entire clans killed by unfamiliar predators and hunters. Another big problem with Raksasa is they don’t adapt to industrialized locations and planets very well they get claustrophobic which leads to jumpy, aggressive and sporadic behaviour, being near cities also hurts their fragile respiratory system. When in cities or on ships with Raksasa it’s a recommendation to let them relax and not more let them doze off somewhere so they don’t begin to panic. Raksasa are not pets for people who aren’t able to give them wide places to frolic and fly.
Communication: Raksasa speak to one another through a language sounding very similar to that of big cats, but due to population isolation every Raksasa language differs quite a bit. Raksasa easily pick up on commands by sentients until the point they understand every word they say they just aren’t able to speak.
Culture: The Raksasa spilt themselves and identify by their clans, clans are made up of family groups that share interests and goals, often different parts of families are strung over various clans to reduce inbreeding, it’s not uncommon for clans to trade members to keep gene flow and to separate those weaker into weaker clans. A clan usually hold anywhere from 15 to 40 Raksasa and they all travel and migrate together as a pack.
History: The home world of the Raksasa is debated but it’s widely agreed to be Ventooine where they are worshipped as a prophet of the gods of sort, over thousands of years they have spread far across the galactic north. In more recent centuries on a handful of Sith worlds they have grown increasingly rare due to rapid industrialization and the beginning of sport hunting the species to the point where they are completely extinct on some worlds such as Dromund Kass and Ord Radama.
Intent: The point of the Raksasa is very simple, yes there are a handful of flying mounts in the Star Wars universe but none of them really feel like companions Raksasa are meant to be party of the family and part of characters, their docile nature is made so that players can interact with nature and have to try to raise and teach a creature to be part of them.
Oh yeah if somebody rides on in space I will personal crucify you.
