One of my dogs got bit today, I got home and saw her looking miserably through my sliding glass back door with a swollen face. I drove her to the vet and my parents had to pay 4000$ for the Anti-venom and treatments and she had to stay there overnight. They said sometimes dogs make it, and sometimes they don't depending on the amount of venom injected.

First thing I did when I got home was look for the bastard. I found it on the side of my house taking shelter in some folded up mats being propped up by my 4wheeler. I waited for my dad to get home and we couldn't get it with the shovel so we shot it with a 22. pistol, wasn't easy though because that scaly bastard took some warning strikes at us. Shits unnerving. It was rattling the whole time, it was a very chilling sound We didn't get it in the head but we shot its body and that gave us enough courage to finish it off with a shovel. This sound of its rattle slowly died down, getting fainter and fainter until it stopped.

If you've ever seen a recently killed snake before you'd know that they down stop moving for a while do to reflexes (that's why you have to cut of their heads to keep them from biting).

Anyway we through the body over the fence... should have taken a picture of it first. But we kept the rattler and I got some pictures of that and a picture of where the whole thing went down.

you realize that was damn good meat you threw out....

My first port of call in the States was New Mexico...same as AZ, 80% of the wildlife is venomous as hell.

that and it's ungodly hot, bland colouring, wind gets insane

I moved north, toxic animals are much fewer.

on the other hand most of our animals can trample you to death, or maul you to death in a matter of seconds.

Moose VS Car on a freeway? Moose actually walks away relatively unscathed half the time....

I know what you mean, I actually wanted to keep it and eat it but my parents said no.

South west isn't fun and games, lol.

If I may ask what part of New Mexico did you live?

That's pretty much about as south as it gets. I have lived all over the southern part of both AZ and NM, pretty crazy how varied the terrain is.

New Mexico is seriously the only place that has good chilies in the US.

I don't agree with the senseless killing of animals, I understand the need for vengeance since your dog was bit? But the snake was just defending itself, no need to kill it unless it posed an immediate threat to your well being. Even then, it would be best to call pest control to have them get rid of the snake in a humane fashion. Trying to subdue it like you did was also foolish, snakes are unpredictable and you could have been bit, it's not something you should gamble with!

I live in an area infested with mountain lions and black bears, I see them in my yard often, rattlesnakes are more of a danger in my opinion, but I'm sure you don't go out of your way to intentionally provoke a venomous snake, just as I wouldn't do the same to a bear or cougar.

I sincerely hope that your dog gets better.

Also, what the hell is that, Adena? They look like char-broiled Bananas.

Ive got no love for snakes. Plus it was a little late for calling animal control, and I have other dogs that we had to think about.

P.S. Seriously @#$% snakes.

Edit:
I sincerely hope that your dog gets better.

Thankyou.

You saw it here first: Adena eats people and calls it 'chilie'.
