The worst part about reading is that eventually, no matter what you do, the book is going to end. And as unfortunate as that fact was, it was precisely the situation Aadya now found herself in. With an annoyed sigh, she stuffed her datapad back into her pocket and looked out at the same thing she'd been looking at for the past.. god, how many hours had it been?

The mission was recon on Wayland, a border world just inside of Sith space but butting up against the FWA. There were rumors of rogue cells setting up and moving through the jungles, though no official sightings or events had been registered. So of course, drawing the short end of the stick, Aadya had been assigned to a little bit of.. watching the sun move from one end of the sky to the other, waiting to see if anything came up.

She wasn't alone, of course, but that hadn't entirely helped time move by any faster. She was on the mission with another Sith named Vizim that Aadya had never met, and he didn't really seem much like the talking type. Which had been totally fine with her, riiiight up until she'd run out of stuff to read and the only thing left to do was watch the wind move the leaves on the trees.

The tent blind they were in was decently sized, enough room for two people to sleep with space still for a table and some other things. Riffling through one of the bags she'd brought along, Aadya fished out some pazaak cards. Walking over to the table, she slapped them down and took a seat, and finally opened her mouth to talk to Vizim after all of the hours of silence.

Dude, there isn't shit going on out there. She said, her tone obviously bored. Aadya'd also brought along a flask and a bottle to refill it, but for now just the flask would do. Getting it out of her pocket, she took a swig and put it too down on the table.

Want to play a game or two? She asked, though she wasn't hopeful.

Vizim, so far, didn't seem much like the game-playing type.

Vizim was "necessarily patient." Meaning that if he had to sit for hours and do nothing, he could do it because he had no other choice. That did not, however, mean that he enjoyed it.

He was bored spitless.

He'd been staring at their monitoring equipment for - he checked his chrono - close to 7 hours with no signs of anything. The road had been clear and there were no signs of the alleged weapon convoy that was supposed to get here 5 hours ago.

He heard her shuffling around and glanced over in her direction when she finally spoke up. He wasn't usually the talkative type, but at this point... he'd take anything over more time staring at this stupid monitor.

What game? he asked, looking over at her. His face looked about as bored as she felt, and he sat the video monitor down so that they could both still see it before he scooted over toward her.

You know, you'd think they could find something better to do with two Champions than this, he muttered.

You piss somebody off to wind up here? he asked.

Pazaak, Aadya replied, unable to hide the surprise in her voice. She fully expected to get not much more than a raspy grumble in response from Viz. You ever played before?

As Vizim walked over and took a seat at the table, Aadya couldn't help but laugh at what he said. She hadn't thought about it much, but it really was kind of weird that they'd send two Champions on a mission that any acolyte with two functioning eyeballs could have done. Clearly the Empire needed to fire their head of logistics.

Not that I can think of, She said with a shrug. What about you? You look like a troublemaker. Her tone was joking, though Vizim did sort of have that air about him.

Flipping through the cards, Aadya split them into two decks and handed one to Viz. She shuffled hers up for a bit before drawing four and making a face that showed her dismay. Whelp, my hand blows.

Aadya's eyes flicked to the screen for just a second, though it looked exactly the same as it always did. Still absolutely nothing going on out there. Jesus Christ.

You can go first, She said, taking another swig from the flask. Aadya would offer Viz a drink if he wanted one, but would understand if he didn't.

Ready to lose?

I've played a few times, he said. Most of them were on jobs or the occasional trip to casinos on exotic worlds he had been to. Vizim grabbed the cards that had been dealt to him and thought about what had drawn them both here.

Nah, you pissed somebody off, he guessed, deciding that surely she had been stuck here for something she didn't realize. At least that was what he was going with.

My last job didn't go well. I was supposed to blow up a FWA listening station. It didn't work out, he said. There was a whole lot more to that story, but that was the cliff notes version. And so he had been sent to this crap assignment. Though... it was easy, wasn't it?

Your hand blows and I go first, huh? he repeated. He looked down at his hand again and saw an opportunity.

Alright, I bet a jacket and I'll take two, he said, laying down two cards and waiting for her to play. He looked back up at her with a faint smirk. We're playing strip poker, right? I assume since you didn't pull any money out, he said and glanced back down at his cards.

Well, this man certainly got right to the point, didn't he? Aadya couldn't help but chuckle a little incredulously, though she definitely wasn't put off by the idea of strip poker with a stranger. Especially one that believed everything that came out of her mouth when she was playing cards.

It wouldn't be surprising if I pissed somebody off somewhere, I guess. Aadya said, taking a good look at Vizim kind of for the first time. He was kinda cute.

And don't think you're gonna get out of telling me the story, Vizim. It's the first interesting thing you've said so far. It would be clear that Aadya was just joking around, though some people found her sense of "humor" a little mean.. sometimes.

I'll see your bed and raise you.. Aadya tapped her chin a few times with her finger, duck-facing her lips a little bit like she was really considering whether her hand was strong enough for a raise. It was, of course, but Viz didn't need to know that. And raise you a shirt. She said finally, a small smile finding its way to her features.

And I'll only take one card.

Aadya waited to see if Vizim was going to call her raise or if things were going to get even more spicy. She couldn't help but wonder if anyone had ever ended up completely nude on the first hand of strip poker before. How funny would it be if Viz was the first, because it surely wasn't going to be her.

Not with the hand she had, anyway.

That's because it's basically the first thing I've said. Either of us, actually, he quipped back deadpan. Besides, you don't want to hear that story. Not as exciting as it sounds, he said. He seemed unfazed by her jab at him, evidently having thicker skin than that.

You'll see my bed? he repeated, eyebrows rising and smirking slightly. Well, at least I know where your mind's at, he said. He was trying very hard not to break into a full-on grin. He half-expected her Fruedian slip was intentional to throw him off his game.

He watched her take a card and put one back.

All right, I'll meet your shirt, he said, laying down his cards.

Crap... he muttered, seeing that he definitely had not won the hand. True to his bet, he started taking off bits of clothing, first jacket and then shirt. It was... short lived... being clothed.

Happy now? he asked. She would be able to see that he was quite athletic with a number of scars befitting of his career choice.

You're going first next time, he said.

It's gotta be at least a little exciting, She said, giving him a look of "don't play with me rn." A sourpuss like you? It'd be funny if it just so happened you slipped on some ice and blew the whole mission.

Wait. Had Aadya really said bed instead of bet or was Viz just fucking with her? Maybe it was some attempt at a pick up line. She'd seen far worse ones than that on Sinder. She almost shuddered thinking about some of the absolutely terrible dm's she'd gotten on there. People be desperatttte.

Oh yeah right, like you could get so lucky. She quipped back, rolling her eyes and matching Viz's totally not a smile smile.

When Viz flipped over his cards, Aadya couldn't let out a rather loud laugh. To no one's surprise, her hand was better.

Read 'em and weep, big dog. She said, flipping over her own. She watched as Viz held up the bargain and took of his jacket and shirt.

..dang.

He was pretty cut, and the scars definitely didn't hurt.

You get into a fight with an angry nexu? She asked, commenting on his various scars. She knew that it was just part of being a Sith - well, being a Sith that wasn't a Firrerreo - but she just wanted to rustle his jimmies a little bit.

Fine. I'll go first. She said, dealing out the cards. Looking at her hand, Aadya shrugged a bit before putting her cards back down. I'll bet my jacket and shirt and take two. She said, flashing him a cocky smile. Whatcha got, Viz?

He could tell that she was flustered about what she had said, but he held true. That was what she had said, and he hadn't made it up. Even at his flirtiest, he probably wouldn't try to use a pickup line like that... probably. Maybe.

Whole pack of them, he said. They were called "Sith" and "Jedi" and "lots of other dead people," he said, returning to his seat after she had finished getting her eyeful.

Too edgy? he asked, knowing the latter line fully played into the stereotype he was already pretty sure she had of him.

Alright, hat and boots, he said, fully taking advantage of the fact that he had a hat and she did not. He needed all the help he could get. And I'm not raising, he said. He needed small wins... or a small hemorrhage of his clothes. Not losing them all at once.

You do seem the type to try to take on more than you can handle, She teased before looking at her cards in dismay. The two new ones she'd gotten did little to shore up her hand. In fact, it might have been even worse now than before.

Maybe a little cringy, but not too edgy, Viz. Have you seen some of the Sith running around? They look like they were packed up at Hot Topic and sent straight to the academy. Aadya shook her head in annoyance and put down her cards, giving Vizim a hard look before flipping them over and seeing what she'd already known: She lost. Fuck.

Not one to back out of a proper bet, Aadya slipped off her jacket and shirt. Luckily, today was one of the days she'd actually decided to wear a sports bra so Viz was the only one with his whole tits out.. at least for now.

Your turn to bet first, Aadya said, dealing out the cards again. Taking another swig from her flask, she would offer to Viz again, not remembering if he'd accepted or declined last time.

Her eyes flicked over to the viewing console, and yet still nothing was happening. At this point they were going to be buck ass naked and then the insurgents would show up. That would be a little awkward.

Tell me something interesting about yourself, Viz. Aadya said, looking at her cards and doing her best not to sigh heavily. Or are you one of those "I don't share my feelings or thoughts because I'm a man" type of dudes. She was teasing mostly, but Aadya could see that being the case. Sith men were always so weird.

Most of them, anyway.

Vizim smirked as he looked at her hand and then his. He was definitely glad not to have lost every hand at least. She slipped off her jacket and shirt and had such a practical undergarment on, it was a bit of a shame really.

I feel like going first is a disadvantage here, he said, pointing out that both of them had lost when going first. Still, he bet anyway.

Boots, socks, and hat, he said, raising the bet from last time. Why did he feel like he was going to lose again?

Something interesting about myself? he repeated aloud. Well that was tough, wasn't it? What did he do outside of work? It was basically the entirety of his life.

I'd never set foot outside the Unknown Region until the Sith came into the galaxy, he said. Was that interesting? He wasn't sure, but it was what she was going to get.

He took the offered flask, taking a sniff to see what it was before taking a quick swig. She'd drunk out of it, after all.

What about you? What's your story?

You think so? Aadya asked, flashing Viz a smirk before looking at her cards. Not bad, not great.

When Vizim said the most interesting thing about him was never having left the UR until the Sith came into the galaxy, Aadya met him with a raised eyebrow of curiosity. That seemed pretty strange. There was like nothing out there. Why would anyone want to be in the Unknown Regions?

Why? She asked, checking her cards again as if they still wouldn't be mediocre. What were doing out there that whole time?

Aadya paused for a moment. What was her story or what was the most interesting thing about her? Two different questions with two different answers. Aadya decided to go with the simpler answer.

Used to be a Jedi. She said, chucking two of her cards into the discard pile. I'll take two and raise you pants.

Her gaze drifted to find Vizim's. She wondered if he'd care, some Sith always did. Saw it as a weakness that Aadya was once a Jedi. She saw it that way too, for a time. Raze had shown her differently.

You calling or are you scaaaaared? She teased, the smirk from earlier returning again.

Given how terrible Aadya's hand had the potential of being, she really hoped Viz was scared and folded. She just thanked the force that today she'd worn underwear that wasn't the tiniest piece of fabric in existence. She wondered what kind of underwear Viz wore.

Seemed like a tighty-whities kind of guy.
