Numenius did not agree with re-arming the Republic.

He did not agree with making Republic Citizens make weapons.

However... he also did not agree with letting people live in poverty and he was not foolish enough to believe that he could stop the grind of the Republic war machine once it started. He knew that the people of Rendili needed to eat and the shipyards, once they were open, were going to be the biggest employer for the entire planet.

He was currently waiting for his fellow senators to arrive, standing outside of his parked shuttle and waiting patiently with a cigara in hand.

He was a pacifist but he wasn't a saint - even someone like him had a vice or two... just turned out that his was a fondness for cigaras that were likely capable of killing him. Whatever... the other senators were arriving.

Stomping on the cigara, he stepped away from his shuttle to meet them, dressed in his armoured suit as he so often was,

"Senators - good afternoon."

Primula Peyvand stepped off her shuttle ramp to see none other than her former debate member, Senator Pax already waiting for her, smoking a cigara no less. She never understood how people could do that to themselves but she did know that when asked they often became hostile about it so she wouldn't bother. But there was nothing fun about that, so might as well tease him a bit, all in good fun of course.

She, along with him and another senator were here to see if they could barter with the local populace and their chosen representatives to restart the forges and began crewing the shipyards. She was more than prepared for such an occasion as the primary trade of her planet was simply agriculture. What Taanab had, was a plethora of farms and fields to be harvested year round. If these people were starving, shed personally see to it that they were properly fed if she had to.

She approached the senator from Corulag dressed in her outfit that she more commonly wore, deciding a military styled uniform might send the wrong message.

Afternoon senator Pax. I don't suppose you're trying to already to blend in with the locals, smoking a cigara? Tsk tsk..

She said playfully before her features became a bit more serious.

Let's get on with meeting the representatives of the planet shall we? Would be terribly rude of us to keep them waiting senator pax, not to mention, the Senator from Nubia has a tendency for being fashionably late, you understand.

When it had been announced that a senatorial delegation had been requested on Rendili, Moor had jumped at the occasion. The planet was one of the Core Founders of the Republic and its ship manufacturing system had greatly inspired the Nubian shipbuilders. Unfortunately, much like Moor's homeworld, the planet had suffered greatly of the disbandment of the original Grand Army of the Republic.

Moor quickly joined the representatives that would accompany him on this endeavour. He knew the Senator of Corulag, who he considered a political rival, but he had never had to interact with the young woman dressed in a military uniform that stood by his side. "I see my reputation precedes me," Moor interjected before inclining his head slightly in sign of respect. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Senator Peyvand." He then proceeded to greet the other senator.

The Nubian official looked positively dashing. He had tousled blonde hair, which was thick and lustrous. His eyes were a mesmerizing hazel green, flecks of silvery light performed ballets throughout. His face was strong and defined, his features molded from granite. He had dark eye brows, which sloped downwards in a serious expression. His usually playful smile had drawn into a hard line across his face. A man of the people, he had donned a casual outfit for the occasion.

"Would you guys care to make things a little more interesting?" Moor suggested. "I think a friendly competition is in order... Whoever can recruit the most workers gets to ask a favor of the others."

"Unless your morals also prevent you from having fun, Senator Pax," he added grinning slightly.

Numenius had to admit that this group he was in?

Well they were bound to be a fun lot now weren't they? A real hoot as far as he was concerned. But so long as they were effective, he honestly didn't give a damn and he knew well enough that Primula was someone who could get her own way when it came to the debate circle so he had no doubt she could convince some of the people here that they were the best. He smirked a little bit,

"Finding ways to pass the time can sometimes be a dangerous business." he joked with Primula about the cigara, "Besides... I'm told it makes me look cool."

A joke naturally - he looked cool as it was.

And before he could respond to the joke, Moor Todan appeared... graving them with his presence. Weren't they lucky? He wasn't the man's friend by a long stretch but he was a man who's skills Numenius could appreciate and acknowledge - even if he was unlikely to ever have to say three nice words strung together in a conversation with the man. Managing a smile at the other man, Numenius couldn't help but chuckle,

"No more than your 'shoot first attitude' makes you friends, Senator Todan." he joked right back with slightly narrowed eyes, "But... you're on. Whomever wins shall have one favour from each of the remainder of our number."

With that out of the way, Numenius would smirk a little bit,

"We split up?" he tilted his head to the side slightly, "Wouldn't want Senator Peyvand here to see you get shot down in flames, right Senator Todan?"

Primula smiled and laughed a bit at the proposal, but she did suppose it would make this endeavor a bit more exciting to say the least. She nodded in agreement and broke off from the group and made her way to the first batch of representatives from one of the larger cities. She smiled at them pleasantly and shook hands with the one she presumed to be the leader.

Her cheeks turned rather red when in fact he was not the leader of the group, and the actual one was smiling a bit awkwardly at her to her right. She composed herself quickly enough and shook it off before smiling at the actual leader if the representatives.

I do apologize sir, I feel as though I may still be suffering from a bit of hyperspace lag. Was not my intention to offend if I did so. As the reports of your economy are dire I shall cut straight to the point. The republic has heard your plea and is here to offer aid to your populations. This is not entirely free you understand, the republic will be asking you to dust off the shipyards and begin production again. As the senator from Taanab I can personally assure you that 50% of agriculture we harvest on Taanab will go to Rendili for the next 6 months.

She hoped it went over well, but only about five or so members of the group spoke up saying they would agree to those terms, the man that spoke for all of them, said nothing as of yet, but he hardly looked convinced that this was a fair enough offer. She mentally sighed and figured she would have to do better with her next attempt at convincing them.

I can extend it to 9 months, but not more than that, I am sorry. 60% would be unsustainable to my planet, you understand. I can't starve my people feeding yours.

When they parted ways, Moor felt confident that he would triumph over his juniors. His charm was legendary, and he had yet to meet anyone that could resist it.

Things didn't exactly go as expected... The first group that Moor approached was composed of three delegates from a rural area. They initially seemed receptive to his proposal. As he explained the welfare benefits that the worker positions offered however, Moor realized that they were totally oblivious to what he was saying. It took him a moment to register no one in the group was speaking Basic. He asked if anyone present could translate for him, but his plea for help was simply ignore. He could not believe his luck.

Having left his protocol droid, B-5OP, aboard the shuttle that had led him to Rendili, Moor had to resort to a combination of hand gestures to explain the plan to staff the shipyard. He tried as best he could for about thirty minutes before he finally decided to abandon the endeavor and moved on to a second group.

He hoped that his comrades were having even more troubles then he was, otherwise this little game of his would backfire. Disgusted by the idea of owing Numerius Pax anything, he resolved to select the second group more carefully.

Numenius had felt good about accepting the bet when he first did it... but now? Not so much.

It seemed that, the group he had approached after agreeing to the wager were actually patriots - good, right? Yes and no... because they were patriots they rather liked the idea of a strong military presence for the Republic and he was, even here, rather obviously known for his pacifist leanings. He was fighting an uphill battle just to get recognised normally and yet here he was being chewed out by the locals BECAUSE they recognised who he was.

His planet wasn't a breadbasket like that of Senator Peyvand and it wasn't into ship building and warmongering like Todan's planet was... but it was rather good at other things.

"I know that times are tough right now but your brothers and sisters from Corulag are here to assist you in whatever way we can." he assured the crowd he was talking to, "We don't grow crops... but we do have something that can help you in your everyday lives..."

He smiled and got a few of them enthused with his offer,

"Credits!" he declared easily, "We are bankers and we are builders - we have credits and we are more than happy to provide low-interest, long-term, loans and mortgages to get you back on your feet once you're back at work. That way you don't need to worry about putting a roof over your head - let me and mine take care of that while you work to better you and yours!"

Gods this was going to be a slog... but he was NOT going to owe that warmonger Todan any favours!

Or Peyvand... gods alone knew what they'd have him doing.

While some of the group looked to be rather gruff, others were clearly starving. She had a feeling that perhaps mentioning something more along the lines of immediate help might help soothe things over as well. She gestured to some in the crowd before looking at the leader of the representatives again.

Once I leave here, I'll have my shuttle make a quick pick up back on Taanab and have 2 metric tons of food delivered immediately. I know it isn't that much, but it's an offer of good faith to you, from me, that you'll get your people fed within a day at the most. It's that important to me.

She said, smiling at him. This time her proposal was much better received with several more people, perhaps a dozen, shouting that they needed food now and to accept her offer.

We must be hesitant, not make a rash decision. What garuntee can we have that the republic won't forget us after the shipyards are restocked and working again?

Well, at least he was speaking now she thought to herself. She turned slightly and looked out at the crowd, at the sullen faces looking back at her. She let a bit of emotion show on her face and in her voice as she spoke again.

Because after what I've seen today, I won't stop thinking about each and every single one of you. I'll never stop thinking about what happens when the republic forgets a world. As long as I'm a senator and as long as I'm able, Taanab will continue to trade with you and your specifically. You'll have more than enough food, I promise you, you just have to accept our offer. Now, for their sakes, will you?

Moor's second attempt proved more fruitful than the first. He wandered for a while until he stumbled on a group of industrialists affiliated with the Golan Arms weapon manufacturing company. Initially reluctant to hear the Nubian Senator's offer, it was apparent that they had other plans in mind for this exchange with one of the Republic's finest politicians. They were set on selling the merit of their newest blaster pistol. It was only when Moor finally agreed to introduce them to some of his contacts within both the Nubian Ministry of Defense and the Chandrilan Academy that they started discussing the weapons' manufacturers involvement in the Grand Army of the Republic's operation.

"My dear representatives, I can assure you that you won't regret embarking on this journey with me today. It will bring prosperity to Rendili for generations." They had agreed to expand and develop a new branch specialized in ship weaponry. They would be sending a group of their most qualified engineers aboard the space station to oversee the operations. Surely, this contribution would prove significant to the Republic's war effort.

Thanking the representatives, Moor excused himself and started looking for a third group. With luck, he had just one-upped Pax and Primula.

Numenius was doing better than he expected! Apparently offering people credits so that they could feed themselves and their family even while they were settling into their new jobs was a big seller - who knew right? But it seemed that the Senator for Corulag was getting a lot more interest since his offer. He smiled as wide as he could without the expression looking fake on his face as he shook hands with a few of those who seemed to now think that he was offering them the keys to the kingdom as far as they were concerned.

If a man's home was his castle then he supposed he was, in a way.

Moving through this group, he focused on another group closer at hand,

"Come my friends! This your chance to stand tall! To stand with the rest of the Galaxy again!"

He gestured up at the stars above them,

"There are people out there in the Galaxy who had never heard of Rendili and that needs to change!" he declared thunderously, looking at enraptured faces as he built up a head of steam, "It is time for the Galaxy to know who you are again! It is time for the Galaxy to hear of Rendili and instantly know - instantly think - about YOU! About you and your contributions to this Galaxy, to this Republic of ours!"

His energy was beginning to take root in their minds just as it was taking hold of him and he was absolutely a-okay with that! He doubted Moor Todan would be able to whip up a crowd like this...

The leader of the group looked like her could go either way. As more people spoke up though he finally shrugged his shoulders, not looking convinced but the other representives seemed desperate enough, and he wasn't going to hold out on their accounts. He shrugged his shoulders and agreed.

Well thank you, I can assure you that this will only help you in the future. I thank you for accepting.

With that she smiled and nodded politely to the man before pulling out her datapad and having him sign the contracts. She smiled and thanked him for his time before returning to where senator pax seemed to have amassed a rather large crowd. Well that was certainly upsetting wasn't it. She had secured one of the largest cities to be sure, but here he had possibly hundreds of separate representives listening to him. Well didn't that just beat all..

She looked around to see if she could find the senator from Nubia and see if he had faired any better. She didn't fancy the idea of having failed miserably compared to the other more experienced senators. Perhaps prosecuting attornies weren't the best for negotiating things she thought to herself.

Moor's third attempt at recruiting workers proved just as successful as the last one. Sure, the group he had amassed might not have been the most numerous, but they hailed from one of the cities that had served as a workers' camp when the shipyards had last been active. The oldest amongst the delegate Moor had decided to engage had even worked aboard one of the space stations until the end of the war.

Moor and the representatives discussed for almost an hour as the Senator had always expressed a fondness for spaceship engineering. When their conversation ended, the workers' spokesman agreed to support the reactivation of the Bendili shipyard for military production in exchange for certain provisions to be added to the workers' contract in the event that their contribution was no longer required. It was important for Moor not to recreate the mistake that had been made by his predecessor and abandon the workers to their fate.

Noticing that time had already run out, Moor decided to head back for the rendezvous point. On his way he heard rumors about the considerable crowd that the Senator of Corulag had amassed.

When the Nubian approached Senator Peyvand, he saluted her politely. "Please tell me that you've been more successful than Senator Pax?"

Numenius was riding high on the energy of the first two crowds when he approached the third... they were almost immediately swept up in the energy and excitement that he had created with the first two groups. Just like with the first and second groups, Numenius focused on playing to their local pride, their patriotism and their need to put a roof over the heads of their families. Naturally he was more upfront about the first two than the last one.

Focusing too much on the last one had the potential to backfire...

But in the end? It didn't even really matter because half the battle was won just from the energy he had brought about in the other two groups. The 'pitch' went off without a hitch and almost everyone present signed right up. He finished collecting the information from the others and had it all compiled onto a datapad that he had been passing around. He bid farewell to his crowd as he moved back on over to where Primula and Moor were waiting for him.

His grin said it all.

"So!" he grinned as he handed over the datapad showing the information, and the number, of the people he had gotten to sign up for this program, "How did everyone else do? Surely I couldn't have outperformed the Great Senator Todan?"

Primula rolled her eyes at the senators statements. She wish she had been more successful than she had been as she looked over to the senator from Nubia.

Unfortunately not. While I did procure the signature of the representatives from one of the largest cities on the planet, it would appear that our dear senator pax has indeed outdid us both. It appears luck has not favored us this day.

She said as she noticed the aforementioned senator apprapproach. As she looked over the man's datapad the evidence was all there. It seemed he had win their little bet.

I suppose congratulations are in order senator. Quite splendid. We couldn't have done it without you.

"Yes, yes, congratulation Senator Pax," Moor managed to vocalize through gritted teeth. He was determined to appear gracious in his defeat, but he would not force himself to endure his opponent's triumphant smile any longer than he had to.

"Unfortunately, I can't stay to celebrate. I am afraid I must be on my way. My presence has just been requested for an important meeting on Nubia. I am sure you will all understand. I'll leave you guys to report the success of our endeavour to the Senate." With that he excused himself and regained the comfort of his transport shuttle.

Numenius had to admit that watching Moor Today and congratulate him? Well it was more than enough to put a great big smile on his face he would admit! He didn't want to be a dick about it but... well he rather enjoyed the way that Todan very quickly decided that he would be very quick to leave,

"Thank you, Senator Todan, for the chance to win your favour." he called out after the other man with a smile he was having to force to stay small, "Have a safe trip!"

He paused before grinning a little bit at Senator Peyvand,

"You have no idea how much I'm going to enjoy holding this over him..." he mused before bowing his head, "It was a delight to work with you though Senator Peyvand... but I must be off as well. Safe travels!"
